"Ruang lingkup dan metodologi : Telah banyak bukti yang menggambarkan dampak buruk dari debu kayu terhadap kesehatan. Penelitian ini ingin membuktikan bahwa debu kayu mungkin berhubungan dengan timbulnya asma kerja di Mangan pekerja mebel sektor informal. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian retrospektif dengan melibatkan total populasi pekerja di tempat penelitian. Peserta penelitian adalah 135 dari 274 (49.27%) orang pekerja dengan rentang usia 18 - 60 tahun. Data didapatkan dari wawancara, pemeriksaan fisik serta pengukuran fungsi paru, dalam kurun waktu Juli sampai Augustus 2004. Dan selain itu, dilakukan juga pemeriksaan debu lingkungan kerja baik total maupun respirabel. Analisis bivariat digunakan untuk menilai hubungan semua faktor risiko tersebut dengan timbulnya asma kerja.
Hasil dan Kesimpulan : Dan populasi penelitian, 24 orang (17.8%) adalah penderita asma, dengan asma kerja 11,11% dan asma yang diperburuk oleh kerja sebesar 6.67%. Setelah dilakukan analisis multivariat, diketahui faktor risiko maupun yang berpengaruh terhadap timbulnya asma kerja, yaitu indeks masa tubuh (OR : 26.625, 95% CI : 4.198-168.846, dan p < 0.001), riwayat atopi (DR : 14.250, 95% CI : 2.685-75.620, dan p < 0.002), keluhan hidung (OR : 5.714, 95% CI : 1.779-18.356, dan p = 0.003) serta lokasi kerja dengan debu tinggi (OR : 4.295, 95% CI : 1.195-15.439 dan p = 0.026). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa indek masa tubuh, riwayat alergi serta pajanan debu tinggi memainkan peranan penting dalam terjadinya asma akibat kerja.

Scope and methodology : Evidence was accumulated concerning the adverse effects of wood-dust. Studies have suggested that wood-dust may be associated with work related asthma among furniture workers at informal sector. This study was population-based and retrospective. The selected participants were 135 from 274 (49.27%) workers who ranged in age from 18 to 60 years. Data used were derived from interview, physical examinations, and lung function test during July up till Augustus 2004. Beside that, measuring if dust at working environtment had been conducted, either against total dust or respirable. Bivariate analysis was used to examine the association among all risk factors and work-related asthma.
Results and Conclusion : Study found that 24 workers (17.8 %) were suffering from asthma, were divided into occupational asthma 11.11% and work-aggravated asthma 6.67%. After conducting multivariate analyses - logistic regression, risk factors which related to work-related asthma, were body mass index (OR : 26.625, 95% CI : 4.198 - 168.846, with p < 0.001), atopic historical (OR : 14.250, 95% CI : 2.685 - 75.620, with p < 0.002), nose problem (OR : 5.714, 95% CI : 1.779 -18.356, with p = 0.003) and high dust-exposure (OR : 4.295, 95% CI : 1.195 - 15.439 with p = 0.026). The study concluded that body mass index, allergic historical and high dust-exposure might play significant role, in work-related asthma.

"ABSTRAK
Pajanan debu terus menerus dapat menyebabkan masalah kesehatan pada paru,
dan perlu dideteksi segera. Kapasitas paru dapat diukur dengan menggunakan
spirometer, sebagai standar emas penilaian fungsi paru. Sedangkan peak flow
meter, dapat pula digunakan untuk mendeteksi obstruksi paru. Tujuan penelitian
ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat kesesuaian deteksi obstruksi paru antara
spirometer dan peak flow meter. Selain itu ingin diketahui persepsi pemilik usaha
terhadap pentingnya pemantauan kesehatan paru pekerja dengan menggunakan
spirometer dan atau peak flow meter. Dilakukan penelitian mix method, dengan
menggunakan desain cross sectional untuk mendeteksi perbedaan proporsi
obstruksi paru menggunakan 2 alat pemeriksaan pada pekerja mebel, serta
penelitian kualitatif untuk mengetahui persepsi pemilik usaha dengan metode
kelompok diskusi terarah. Uji Mc. Nemar dan Kappa dipakai untuk menilai
perbedaan proporsi dan kesesuaian menggunakan SPSS versi-16. Hasil survey
terhadap 80 pekerja industri mebel, dengan usia antara 20- 68 tahun menunjukkan
perbedaan bermakna persentase obstruksi paru hasil spirometer dengan peak flow
meter. Didapatkan 10% (8 pekerja) mengalami gangguan obstruksi berdasarkan
spirometer, sementara dari pemeriksaan peak flow meter 25 % ( 20 pekerja)
mengalami gangguan obstruksi, dan tingkat kesesuaian yang rendah dengan
Kappa bernilai 0,25 (p <0,05). Hasil penelitian kualitatif menunjukkan bahwa
para pemilik industri mebel lebih cenderung menggunakan alat peak flow meter
karena lebih praktis, user friendly, sederhana dan murah. Sebagai kesimpulan
penelitian ini, walaupun tingkat kesesuaian antara spirometer dengan peak flow
meter tergolong fair (rendah), namun peak flow meter dapat digunakan sebagai
alternatif skrining deteksi obstruksi saluran napas. Spirometer tetap merupakan
alat standar untuk mendiagnosis obstruksi saluran napas. ABSTRACT
Occupational lung disease remain one of the most common workplace health
challenges since the industrial revolution. The continuously dust exposure can
cause health problems in the lungs, and need to be detected immediately. The
measurement of lung capacity can be obtained using spirometer, a gold standards
tools to established obstructive lung disease. On the oher hand there is another
tools, peak flow meter, a simple, affordable and friendly users tool to detect lung
obstruction.
A mix method research, cross sectional and focused grop discussion was
conducted to the determine the level of suitability between spirometer and peak
flow meter, based on differences in the proportion of lung obstruction in workers .
Test results spirometer and peak flow meter is determined by two experts of the
80 workers in the furniture industry, aged 20 to 68 years. Mc Nemar test and
Kappa used to assess the suitability of the spirometer and peak flow meter using
SPSS version 16 .
There is a different percentage between the results of pulmonary obstruction by
using spirometer and peak flow meter ( 25 % vs 10 % ) . Both tools showed the
mismatch according to McNemar test ( p<0.05) and had a low level of suitability
from the Kappa test based on the value of 0.25 (p<0.05). This shows that there is
a low suitability between the spirometer and peak flow meter . Although peak
flow meters provide lower yields , because its use is more practical , simple and
cheap , the owner of the furniture industry is more likely to use this tool . It is
suggested to conduct similar studies with larger samples to assess the sensitivity
and specificity."

"ABSTRAK
Latar belakang penelitian : Polisi Lalu Lintas yang bekerja di daerah lalu lintas yang padat terpajan emisi kendaraan selama bertahun-tahun. Banyak penelitian melaporkan pajanan asap, bahan kimia dan partikel dalam emisi akan merusak faal paru. Belum ada data mengenai faal paru polisi lalu lintas di Wilayah Jakarta Selatan
Metode penelitian :
Penelitian ini merupakan bagian dari penelitian besar di Wilayah Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang dan Bekasi (JABODTABEK) dengan desain cross-sectional untuk menentukan faal paru polisi lalu lintas dan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada polisi lalu lintas di Wilayah Jakarta Selatan pada bulan Oktober-November 2012 dengan teknik pengambilan total sampling. Wawancara menggunakan Kuesioner Pneumobile Project Indonesia, dilakukan pemeriksaan uji faal paru, foto toraks dan pengukuran CO ekshalasi. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan multivariat dengan menggunakan SPSS versi 17.
Hasil penelitian : Pada penelitian ini kami menemukan sebanyak 181 subjek penelitian sesuai dengan kriteria inklusi, kelompok umur terbanyak 41-50 tahun (35,4%), status gizi kelebihan berat badan (54,1%) dan perokok ringan (33,1). Sebanyak 9 subjek ditemukan kelainan faal paru dengan rincian 5 obstruksi ringan dan 4 restriksi ringan. Gambaran kelainan foto toraks ditemukan sebanyak 5 subjek. Nilai kadar CO ekshalasi didapatkan dengan rerata 14,0 ± 8,5. Analisis yang dilakukan pada penelitian ini tidak didapatkan hubungan bermakna secara statisitik antara faktor usia, status gizi, merokok, masa kerja, pemakaian APD dan kualitas udara dengan faal paru.
Kesimpulan: Terdapat kelainan faal paru pada 9 (5%) polisi lalu lintas di Wilayah Jakarta Selatan. Tidak terdapat hubungan yang bermakna secara statistik antara gambaran faal paru dengan semua faktor-faktor yang diteliti.

ABSTRACT
Background: Traffic policemen working in the busy traffic signal areas get exposed to the vehicular missions for years together. Many studies have reported exposure to smoke, chemicals and particles in emissions will damage lung function. Since there were no data available on the parameters of traffic police personnel of South Jakarta.
Methods: This study is part of a major research area Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (JABODETABEK) with cross-sectional study to determine the pulmonary function of traffic police and the factors that influenc. The study was conducted traffic policemen in South Jakarta Regional in Oktober-November 2012. Interview using Kuesioner Pneumobile Project Indonesia, Pulmonary function test, Chest X-ray and CO exhaled. The data were analyze using descriptive and multivariate processed to look at the relationship between variables with SPSS version 17.
Results: In this study we found as many as 181 subjects the inclusion criteria with predominant age group between 41-50 years old (35,4%), over weight (54,1%) and mild smoker (33,1%). A total of nine subjects with pulmonary function abnormalities details mild obstruction 5 and 4 mild restriction.Chest X-ray abnormality was found by 5 subjects. Levels of CO exhalation values ​​obtained with a mean 14.0 ± 8.5. The analysis conducted in this study found no significant relationship between the statistics of age, nutritional status, smoking, length of service, use of mask and air quality index with lung function.
Conclusion: There pulmonary function abnormalities in 9 (5%) of traffic police in the area of South Jakarta. There was no statistically significant association between lung function overview with all the factors studied."

"Ruang lingkup dan cara penelitian: Pada tahun 2004 telah dilakukan penelitian oleh peneliti terdahulu tentang dampak buruk dari debu kayu terhadap kesehatan dan telah dilakukan intervensi terhadap dampak tersebut. Dalarn penelitian ini dilakukan penelitian kros-seksional dengan anaiisis perbedaan proporsi serta populasi yang sama yang pen-nah dilakukan Lahun 2004 yaitu sebanyak 135 orang pekelja dengan rentang usia 18-60 ormg.
Data didapatkan dari wawancara, pemeriksaan fisik serta pengukuran fungsi paru pada Januari 2008, juga dilakukan pemeriksaan debu lingkzmgan kemja baik total rnaupun respirabel. Analisa bivaxiat digunakan untuk menilai hubungan semua faktor risiko tersebut dengan timbulnya asma kerja.
Hasil dan Kesimpulan: Dari Populasi penelitian, prcvalensi asma 21 orang (15.5%) yang terdiri dari asma kerja I3 orang (9.6%) dan 8 orang (5.9%) asma memburuk akibat kcrja. Setelah dilakukan analisa multivaxiat, dikctahui faktor risiko maupun yang berpenganih terhadap terjadinya asma kezja yaitu riwayat atopi (P = 0.170, OR suaian 3.044 dan CI 95% 0.622-14.91 I), riwayat asma (P = 0188, OR suaian 2.570 dan CI 95% 0.631-10.469), bila dibandingkan dengan hasil penelitian tahun 2004, terlihat adanya pcnurunan prevalensi asma. Dengan dcmikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa intervensi yang dianjurkan oleh peneliti terdahulu telah dilaksanakan dengan baik.

Result and conclusion: From the actuation of population, prevalensi asthma 21 person(l5.5%). Were divided into occupational asthma 13 person (9.6%), and work aggravated asthma 8 person (5.9%).After conducting multivariate analyses- logistic regression,1isk factors which related to work-related asthma, were atopic historical (P = 0.i70, OR 3.044 and CI 95% 0.622-14.91 I), and asthma historical (P = 0.I88, OR 2.570 and CI 95% 0.631-l0.469). If compared with the acuration result at 2004, was view the asthma prevalence subtractions. Therefore, be concluding that intervention as formerly acuter protrude had done well.

"Latar Belakang: Banyaknya industri jamu menimbulkan masalah baik bagi lingkungan berupa pencemaran maupun bagi kesehatan para pekerja. Dari proses produksi jamu, banyak dihasilkan debu. Hal ini tentunya dapat menimbulkan gangguan bagi kesehatan pekerja di pabrik tersebut. Kualitas udara sangat berpengaruh terhadap kesehatan pekerja, terutama yang berhubungan dengan fungsi pernapasannya dikarenakan sistem pernapasan terus-menerus terpajan oleh partikel-partikel yang ada di udara.
Obyektif: Mengetahui prevalensi gangguan fungsi paru akibat pajanan debu jamu serta faktor-faktor yang berhubungan pada pekerja di pabrik jamu PT.X, Semarang.
Metode: Penelitian potong lintang dengan mengukur fungsi paru pekerja pabrik jamu PT.X Semarang pada bulan November dan Desember 2014 dengan menggunakan spirometri dan mengukur kadar debu lingkungan kerja. Sampel yang dikumpulka sebanyak 100 responden untuk pengukuran fungsi paru dan 4 lokasi untuk pengukuran kadar debu lingkungan kerja.
Hasil dan Kesimpulan: Ditemukan gangguan obstruksi paru ringan sebanyak 1%. Tidak ditemukan gangguan restriksi paru ataupun gangguan fungsi paru kombinasi. Faktor risiko yang bermakna terhadap rasio VEP1/KVP adalah Umur (p < 0,01; selisih rerata 6,48% (-8,91 sampai -4,06)), Jenis kelamin (p = 0,016; selisih rerata -3,72 (-6,73 sampai -0,71)), Pendidikan (p = 0,01; selisih rerata 5,02 (2,21 sampai 7,83)), dan Masa Kerja (p = 0,01; selisih rerata -4,77 (-8,4 sampai -1,13)).

Background: Indonesian traditional herbal medicine industries cause many problems to environment and workers? health. Traditional herbal medicine production process produces many organic dusts. The organic dusts could lead to health disorder among factory workers. Air quality very influential to workers health, especially those that associated to respiratory function since it?s been exposed to air particles.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of lung function disorder and its related factors due to dust exposure in one of Indonesian traditional herbal medicine factory.
Method: This was a cross sectional study performed by examining 100 workers? lung function using spirometry and examining environment dust level from one of Indonesia traditional herbal medicine factory in November to December 2014.
Result: There was 1% prevalence of mild obstructive lung disease but there were no restrictive or combined lung diseases. Bivariate analysis showed that Age {p < 0,01; mean difference 6,48% (-8,91 to -4,06)}, Sex {p = 0,016; mean difference -3,72 (-6,73 to -0,71)}, Education {p = 0,01; mean difference 5,02 (2,21 to 7,83)}, and Years of service {p = 0,01; mean difference -4,77 (-8,4 to -1,13)} were the risk factors to ratio of VEP1/KVP.

"Pendahuluan : Pekerja laboratorium teknik gigi memiliki risiko mengalami gangguan sistem respirasi yang dapat mengakibatkan gangguan fungsi paru akibat pajanan metil metakrilat (MMA). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kadar MMA di lingkungan laboratorium teknik gigi di DKI Jakarta dan Kotamadya Tangerang, risiko pajanannya terhadap keluhan respirasi dan gangguan fungsi paru, serta hubungannya dengan faktor individu dan pekerjaan.
Metode : Desain penelitian cross sectional melibatkan 69 pekerja laboratorium teknik gigi dari 4 laboratorium. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, pengamatan, pengukuran kadar MMA lingkungan dan pemeriksaan spirometri.
Hasil : Kadar MMA pada 4 laboratorium teknik gigi adalah 0,26 ? 5,72 ppm, jauh di bawah Nilai Ambang Batas. Ditemukan hubungan bermakna ketersediaan ventilasi personal dengan kadar MMA (p <0,05). Prevalensi keluhan subyektif respirasi 39,1 %, dengan faktor yang berhubungan adalah kadar MMA >0,5 ppm (OR = 4,90, 95% CI: 1,49 ? 16,14) dan masa kerja >10 tahun (OR = 0,14, 95% CI: 0,03 ? 0,61). Prevalensi gangguan fungsi paru 44,9 %, seluruhnya restriktif. Faktor yang berhubungan dengan gangguan fungsi paru adalah kebiasaan merokok (OR = 3,94, 95% CI: 1,22 ? 12,76) dan kadar MMA >0,5 ppm (OR = 3,29, 95% CI: 1,01 ? 10,80).
Kesimpulan : Kadar MMA >0,5 ppm memberikan risiko 4,9 kali lebih besar timbulnya keluhan subyektif respirasi pada pekerja. Kadar tersebut juga memberikan risiko 3,29 kali lebih besar timbulnya gangguan fungsi paru pada pekerja. Pekerja yang sudah bekerja >10 tahun menurunkan kemungkinan timbulnya keluhan subyektif respirasi sebesar 86 %. Efek ini diperkirakan akibat timbulnya toleransi pekerja terhadap keluhan subyektif seiring dengan waktu. Pekerja yang merokok memiliki risiko 3,94 kali lebih besar mengalami gangguan fungsi paru.

Background : Dental laboratory workers are at risk of respiratory symptom and pulmonary function disorder,due to exposure to methyl methacrylate (MMA). The objective of this study is to know the level of MMA at dental laboratories at DKI Jakarta and Kotamadya Tangerang, the risk of its exposure toward respiratory symptom and pulmonary function disorder among dental laboratory worker, and its association with individual and occupational factors.
Method : This is a cross sectional study involving 69 dental laboratory workers from 4 laboratories. Data were collected through interview, observation, environmental MMA measurement and lung function examination by spirometer.
Result : MMA levels in 4 dental laboratories were 0.26 ? 5.72 ppm, well below Treshold Limit Value. The prevalence of respiratory symptom was 39.1 %, with associated factors are MMA level >0.5 ppm (OR = 4.90, 95% CI: 1.49 ? 16.14) and working period of >10 years (OR = 0.14, 95% CI: 0.03 ? 0.61). The prevalence of pulmonary function disorder was 44.9 %, all of them restrictive. Factors associated with pulmonary function disorder were smoking habit (OR = 3.94, 95% CI: 1.22 ? 12.76) and MMA level >0.5 ppm (OR = 3.29, 95% CI: 1.01 ? 10.80).
Conclusion : MMA level of >0.5 ppm pose a 4.9 times greater risk of respiratory symptom among workers. That level also poses a risk 3.29 times greater of pulmonary function disorder among workers. Workers with >10 years length of service decreased their possibility of respiratory symptom by 86%. This effect is probably due to tolerance the workers develop towards the subjective symptoms. Smoking workers have a risk 3.94 times greater for pulmonary function disorder."

Latar Belakang
Penggunaan pestisida yang tidak tepat dapat meningkatkan risiko terjadinya gangguan fungsi paru obstruksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui prevalensi kejadian gangguan fungsi paru obstruksi, profil perilaku petani dan mencari hubungannya dengan gangguan fungsi paru obstruksi.
Metode
Desain penelitian ini adalah cross sectional dengan besar sampel 99 orang petani hortikultura penyemprot pestisida yang diambil secara cluster random sampling. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Mei hingga Juni 2016 di Desa Cibeureum. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara dan pemeriksaan spirometri. Variabel yang diteliti adalah profil perilaku dalam menyimpan pestisida, sebelum menyemprot pestisida dan penanganan limbah wadah pestisida, intensitas pajanan dengan menggunakan sistem skoring Sulistomo, terdiri dari variabel : jenis tugas kerja, penggunaan alat pelindung diri dan riwayat higiene.
Hasil
Total prevalensi gangguan fungsi paru obstruksi adalah 18,2%. Profil perilaku dalam menyimpan pestisida, sebelum menyemprot pestisida dan penanganan limbah wadah pestisida masih belum menunjukkan perilaku kerja yang baik dan aman. Proporsi petani dengan nilai intensitas pajanan tinggi sebesar 25,3%. Intensitas pajanan pestisida pada petani hortikultura tidak berhubungan secara bermakna dengan gangguan fungsi paru obstruksi. Profil perilaku petani hortikultura yang meningkatkan risiko gangguan fungsi paru obstruksi adalah : perilaku menyimpan pestisida di dalam rumah (OR suaian: 4,85, IK95% 1,27-18,55) dan perilaku tidak memeriksa peralatan sebelum melakukan penyemprotan pestisida (OR suaian: 3,83, IK95% 1,07-13,66).
Kesimpulan dan Saran
Prevalensi gangguan fungsi paru cukup tinggi serta profil perilaku petani hortikultura meningkatkan risiko terjadinya gangguan fungsi paru obstruksi. Pemeriksaan kesehatan berkala setiap 6 bulan perlu dilakukan terutama bagi petani dengan gangguan fungsi paru

ABSTRACT
Background
The improperly used of pesticide could increase the risk of obstructive lung impairment. The objectives of this study are to determine the prevalence of obstructive lung impairment, farmers behavior profile and its relationship with obstructive lung impairment.
Method
This study was designed as a cross sectional study with 99 pesticide sprayed horticultural farmers as the respondents taken by cluster random sampling. The study was conducted in May to June 2016 in Cibeureum village.. Data was collected by interview and spirometry examination. Variables studied were exposure intensity using Sulistomo scoring method, consisted of : work task, personal protective equipments usage, habitual personal hygiene, behavior profile of storing pesticides, prior to spraying and handling the pesticide?s empty containers.
Results
Total prevalence of obstructive lung impairment was 18.2%. Behavior profile of storing pesticides, prior to spraying and handling the pesticides? empty containers had not represented a picture of safe work practises yet. The proportion of the farmers with high intensity of pesticide exposure was 25.3%. The intensity of pesticide exposure was not significantly related with obstructive lung impairment event. Behavior profile among pesticides sprayed horticultural farmers which increased the risk of obstructive lung impairment event were storing the pesticide at home (adj OR: 4.85, CI95% 1.27-18.55), not checking the equipments prior to spraying pesticides (adj OR : 3.83, CI95% 1.07-13.66).
Conclusion
Prevalence of obstructive lung impairment was quite high and the pesticide sprayed horticultural farmer behavior profile increased the risk of obstructive lung impairment. Periodical medical examination needs to be done every 6 months, especially farmers with lung impairment"

"Latar belakang : Debu silika, asbestos dan batu bara berhubungan dengan pneumokoniosis pada pekerja tambang. International Labour Organization (ILO) melaporkan 30-50% pekerja pada negara berkembang terdiagnosis pneumokoniosis. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi pneumokoniosis pada pekerja tambang kapur di Indonesia.
Metode: Studi cross-sectional melibatkan subjek 73 pekerja tambang kapur di Desa Citatah Kabupaten Bandung Barat, Indonesia. Dua kesimpulan yang sama dari tiga pembaca foto yang memiliki sertifikat AIR-Pneumo dengan membaca secara blind dan menggunakan panduan ILO.
Hasil: Pneumokoniosis ditemukan pada 11/73 (15,1%). Median umur dari kelompok pneumokoniosis lebih tua dibandingkan kelompok bukan pneumokoniosis (51 [33-63] vs. 37.5 [18-85] umur dalam tahun, p=0.013). Seluruh subjek pada kelompok pneukoniosis bekerja > 6 tahun (p=0.001). Konsentrasi debu tertinggi pada kelompok pneumokoniosis dibandingkan kelompok yang bukan pneumokonisosis (61.41±103.98 vs. 14.92±55.17 mg/m3, p=0.030). Penelitian ini menunjukan lama bekerja dan kadar debu pada tambang merupakan faktor risiko pneumokoniosis walaupun tidak bermakna (OR=14.6, p=0.999 and OR=7.171, p=0.998).
Kesimpulan: Proporsi pneumokoniosis pada pekerja tambang kapur pada penelitian ini sebesar 15,1% . Lama bekerja dan kadar debu pada tambang merupakan faktor risiko pneumokoniosis; namun tidak bermakna dalam penelitian ini.

Background: Silica, asbestos, and coal dusts correlate with pneumoconiosis in mineworkers. The International Labour Organization (ILO) reported that 30-50% of workers in developing countries were diagnosed with pneumoconiosis. This study aimed to identify pneumoconiosis among limestone workers in Indonesia.
Method: This cross-sectional study involved 73 limestone mineworkers from two limestone mining sites in Citatah Village, West Bandung Regency, Indonesia, as the subjects. Two out of three AIR-Pneumo-certified blinded readers decided the conclusive chest x-ray (CXR) report of pneumoconiosis for each subject according to the ILO guidelines.
Results: Pneumoconiosis was found in 11/73 (15.1%) subjects. The median age of pneumoconiosis group was older compared to the non-pneumoconiosis group (51 [33-63] vs. 37.5 [18-85] years old, p=0.013). All subjects in the pneumoconiosis group were of >6 years of working duration (p=0.001). The dust concentration was higher at the mining site of the pneumoconiosis group compared to the mining site of the non-pneumoconiosis group (61.41±103.98 vs. 14.92±55.17 mg/m3, p=0.030). This study showed that working duration and mining site dust concentration were risk factors for pneumoconiosis; however, with no significance (OR=14.6, p=0.999 and OR=7.171, p=0.998, respectively).
Conclusion: The proportion of pneumoconiosis in limestone mine workers in this study was 15.1%. Working duration and mining site dust concentration were risk factors for pneumoconiosis; however, no significance was found from this study.
