"Era post-truth ditandai dengan matinya kebenaran objektif. Kebenaran yang diutamakan adalah yang sesuai dengan pandangan politik kelompok yang bersifat absolut. Terkait dengan kritik sastra, karya sastra yang mengangkat isu subjektivitas dan kebenaran dalam politik, contohnya novel The Nix karya Nathan Hill, relevan untuk dikaji. Tesis ini meneliti bagaimana The Nix melalui berbagai strategi naratifnya menyuarakan narasi subjektif serta menjadi teks yang secara kritis bereaksi terhadap era post-truth dengan konteks politik yang mempolarisasi dan dogmatis. Tesis ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dan pembacaan dekat untuk menelaah unsur-unsur yang ada di dalam teks. Analisis kemudian diperdalam dengan naratologi Genette, konsep subjektivitas, dan aspek metafiksional. Temuan menunjukkan adanya pengutamaan narasi subjektif melalui kisah yang personal dibandingkan kisah yang politis. Narasi politik kelompok dalam teks digambarkan sebagai sumber distorsi dan mereduksi subjektivitas tokoh, merendahkan kompleksitas demi ide semu tentang kebenaran. Teks menyuarakan narasi subjektif tokoh dengan menyelami berbagai sudut pandang melalui perjalanan tokoh utama dan pengungkapan kisah personal yang didistorsi oleh kesalahpahaman dan narasi politik. Pengungkapan yang dilakukan tokoh utama melalui aspek metafiksional dalam proses mengarang fiksi menunjukkan kesadaran bahwa narasinya bersifat subjektif dan sudut pandangnya terbatas, namun berupaya untuk memahami subjektivitas tokoh lainnya: suatu hal yang kontras dari kecenderungan dinamika politik pada era post-truth yang memecah belah.

The post-truth era is marked by the demise of objective truths. Individuals and groups often prefer truths that suit their political views which are characteristically absolute. In relation to literary criticism, it is relevant to study literary works that raise the issues of subjectivity and truth in politics, like Nathan Hill’s novel The Nix. This thesis examines how The Nix voices subjective narratives and critically reacts to the post-truth era where political narratives are polarizing and dogmatic. The study attempts to elaborate narrative elements in the text by using qualitative method and close reading. It incorporates Genette’s narratology and metafiction to further analyze the narrative elements. The findings show that the text prioritizes subjective narratives in personal stories in comparison to the political. Group political narratives are depicted as distorting and reductive to characters’ subjectivity, demeaning nuance in the name of truth. The text voices subjective narratives by exploring multiple point of views through the main character’s journey in revealing personal stories often distorted by misunderstandings and judgmental political narratives. The disclosure of personal stories by the main character through metafictional aspect in his fiction writing process shows that his narrative is subjective and his point of view is limited, but simultaneously attempts to attain understanding in other characters’ subjectivity through nuance: a contrast to the divisive political dynamics with post-truth inclination."
