"This accessible new textbook provides a clear and practical introduction to phonetics, the study of speech. Assuming no prior knowledge of the topic, it introduces students to the fundamental concepts in phonetic science, and equips them with the essential skills needed for recognising, describing and transcribing a range of speech sounds. Numerous graded exercises enable students to put these skills into practice, and the sounds introduced are clearly illustrated with examples from a variety of English accents and other languages. As well as looking at traditional articulatory description, the book introduces acoustic and other instrumental techniques for analysing speech, and covers topics such as speech and writing, the nature of transcription, hearing and speech perception, linguistic universals, and the basic concepts of phonology. Providing a solid foundation in phonetics, Introducing Phonetic Science will be invaluable to all students beginning courses in linguistics, speech sciences, language pathology and language therapy."

"Phonetically Based Phonology is centered around the hypothesis that phonologies are determined by phonetic principles; that is, phonetic patterns involving ease of articulation and perception are expressed linguistically as grammatical constraints. This book brings together a team of leading scholars to provide wide-ranging study of phonetically based phonology. It investigates the role of phonetics in many phonological phenomena, such as assimilation, vowel reduction, vowel harmony, syllable weight, contour tone distribution, metathesis, lenition, sonority sequencing, and the Obligatory Contour Principle (OCP), exploring in particular the phonetic bases of phonological markedness in these key areas. The analyses also illustrate several analytical strategies whereby phonological sound patterns can be related to their phonological underpinnings. Each chapter includes a tutorial discussion of the phonetics on which the phonological discussion is based. Diverse and comprehensive in its coverage."

"Phonological Structure and Phonetic Form: Papers in Laboratory Phonology III brings together work from phonology, phonetics, speech science, electrical engineering, psycho and sociolinguistics. The chapters in this book are organized in four topical sections. The first is concerned with stress and intonation; the second with syllable structure and phonological theory; the third with phonological features; and the fourth with "phonetic output." This is the third in the series Papers in Laboratory Phonology. The two previous volumes, like the conferences from which they were derived, have been influential in establishing Laboratory Phonology as a discipline in its own right. Phonological Structure and Phonetic Form will be equally important in making readers aware of the range of research relevant to questions of linguistic sound structure."

The objective of this study is to analyze relationship between position of upper first incisive and freeway space of the complete denture wearers with the phonetic adaptation time, based on the gold standard of Indonesian linguo-palatal consonant palatogram, in order to be able to pronounce linguo-palatal consonant, especially ?s? and ?z? sound. This research is quasi-expertiment study, consist of 35 subject of complete denture wearers. The result of this study is that the position of the upper first incisive affecting the phonetic adaptation of complete denture wearer especially ?s? and ?z? sound. Nontheless, no significant relationship between freeway space and phonetic adaptation time.;The objective of this study is to analyze relationship between position of upper first incisive and freeway space of the complete denture wearers with the phonetic adaptation time, based on the gold standard of Indonesian linguo-palatal consonant palatogram, in order to be able to pronounce linguo-palatal consonant, especially ?s? and ?z? sound.
