This study analyses the three essential elements of the interracial relationship between Amir and Emily in Ayad Akhtar's Pulitzer Prize winning play, Disgraced. They are Emily's painting of Amir, her husband, in the style of Portrait of Juan de Pareja by Diego Vel zquez Emily's White Saviour Complex and the violence she suffered in the hands of Amir. The first two parts of the analysis will utilise the combination of Identity Construction theory by Stuart Hall, Edward Said's Orientalism, and the post 9 11 discourse of neo Orientalism.
The last part of the analysis will foreground the entire elements by utilising Stuart Hall's theory of Articulation. It will be proved that Amir's violence is an act of retaliation towards Emily's domination over the production of his identity through representation and her influence in his crucial decisions concerning his relationship with his family. Emily's victimisation and the emphasis on Amir's lsquo tribalistic bond'risk a reductionist neo Orientalist reading of the text. By acknowledging Emily's White Saviour Complex, the text can be read as a re articulation of the neo Orientalist stereotypes of 'barbaric brown man' and 'free white woman'.

"This thesis will analyze the Marabar Cave incident in the novel A Passage to India as a mere hallucination experienced by Miss Quested. Psychoanalytical approach and interpretation of dreams will be used to analyze the hidden meaning of the hallucination. This analysis will prove that the hallucination is a form of Miss Quested's wish-fulfilment and that it is she who has hidden sexual desire towards Aziz. Then, by using the Orientalism theory by Edward Said, the relation of this meaning and the prejudice that black is lusty will be studied. It will be proved that the prejudice is a construction made to justify white domination. In the end, it is concluded that this novel is an effort of subversive colonial ideology and the empowerment of black man."

ABSTRACT
This study is to analyze the Orientalism, cross cultural and feminine issues in order to find someone?s identity in The Woman Warrior, a novel written by Maxine Hong Kingston, since this novel talks about a Chinese girl who lives in America and is confused about her identity. The theoretical approach will be historical, sociological and feminist theories because they are related to the study which is to analyze a woman's life in the historical and cultural context of Chinese - American society. The result shows that Kingston is still confused to which identity she belongs to, Chinese or American. Her mother asks her to keep her Chinese tradition culture. On the other hand, her society pushes her to adapt the American culture. The narratives illustrate the impossible task of negotiating two different cultures and finding a balance to construct gender and ethnic identity. Finally, in all of narratives a similar thread reappears in the form of the past and its influence on the progression of their gender and ethnic identities.;This study is to analyze the Orientalism, cross cultural and feminine issues in order to find someone?s identity in The Woman Warrior, a novel written by Maxine Hong Kingston, since this novel talks about a Chinese girl who lives in America and is confused about her identity.

Nowadays, the representation of cultural stereotypes in television drama series has become commonplace. Many television drama series are trying to insert the element of cultural stereotypes in their practices. Even in a rather new crime television drama series such as, Criminal Minds Beyond Borders 2016 , cultural stereotypes are being exposed and depicted in the series. As the second spin off of the franchise Criminal Minds 2005 ndash 2016 , Criminal Minds Beyond Borders 2016 is trying to get attention and reach the audiences by portraying the issue of cultural stereotypes through the separation of two big groups, which are the Americans and the Eastern people Asian, African, and Middle Eastern. The stereotypes are being illustrated through three different elements, which are dialogue, characters, and plot. By applying orientalism as the analytical framework to interpret and examine the cultural stereotypes that exist in the corpus, this study argues that Criminal Minds Beyond Borders 2016 represents America as superior in relation to the East counterparts and it somehow disfigures the East countries.

"ABSTRAK
Jurnal ini meneliti ideologi media dalam tiga media internasional, yaitu The Jakarta Post 2015 , The Guardian 2015 , dan The New York Times 2015 lewat teori orientalisme Said dalam Patrick Wolfe 1997 . Artikel berita yang dipilih dari masing-masing media menyoal pembatalan mata acara Ubud Writers and Readers Festival UWRF 2015, secara urut berjudul Being Silenced in Ubud , Indonesian writers 39; festival forced to cancel events linked to 1965 massacre , dan At a Bali Festival, Indonesia Enforces Silence About Its Bloody Past , dikaji menggunakan metode analisis wacana kritis komparatif dari Fairclough 2015 . Terakhir, The New York Times, sebagai media barat, mirip dengan The Guardian, tetapi dengan fokalisasi yang berbeda - artikel berita The New York Times merepresentasikan keterlibatan Amerika Serikat AS sebagai protagonis dan narasi sejarah tragedi 1965 terkait pembatalan mata acara UWRF 2015.

ABSTRACT
This research analyzes the media ideology incorporated in three different international media, namely The Jakarta Post 2015 , The Guardian 2015 , and The New York Times 2015 in the framework of Said rsquo s in Patrick Wolfe 1997 orientalism. The news reports chosen from each media are of the cancellation in Ubud Writers and Readers Festival UWRF 2015, orderly entitled ldquo Being Silenced in Ubud rdquo , ldquo Indonesian writers rsquo festival forced to cancel events linked to 1965 massacre rdquo , and ldquo At a Bali Festival, Indonesia Enforces Silence About Its Bloody Past rdquo , dissected with Fairclough rsquo s 2015 comparative critical discourse analysis. The research, emphasizing on the representation analysis, is divided into three parts of analysis, which are the comparative analysis on the representation of process, the representation of social actors, and the representation of space time in each news reports. The first finding is that The Jakarta Post, as the Orient media, carries specific and local politics by framing Indonesian national civil society as the protagonist and the festival organizers as the antagonist, yet with weak focalization. Second, The Guardian, as the West media, carries generic and global politics by framing the international governance as the protagonist and the authoritarian national governance as the antagonist with focalization on the national governance rsquo s sentiment towards the foreign. Lastly, The New York Times, as the West media, is similar to The Guardian, yet with different focalization ndash it represents the United States of America rsquo s involvement as the protagonist and the narrative history of the 1965 tragedy in accordance to the cancellation in UWRF 2015."

The concept of Edward Said`s (1978) Orientalism has played an important role in shaping how the West (Occident) perceives the East (Orient) to be inferior to them. It has also influenced some Asian countries to depict themselves in a way the West views them: an inferior counterpart to the West. This phenomenon is called self-Orientalism, and it is evident in various media, including tourism advertisements. By using Fairclough`s three-dimensional Communicative Event Analysis, this paper tries to find evidence of self-Orientalism in Wonderful Indonesia`s The More You Feel the More You Know (2018) and what prompts Indonesia to apply such concept. This paper is divided into four sections: the shifting time frame, the friendly but helpless local people, the ambiguous position of Putri Marino, and displaying modernity. The results show that self-Orientalism, as evidenced in this advertisement are dominantly internalized by Western influences rather than Indonesia`s striving for modernity. This is because the `cultural inferiority complex`, which believes that Western culture is better than Indonesian culture, has rooted within Indonesian society since the colonial period.
