Belajar kosakata seharusnya menjadi landasan belajar bahasa kedua. Tanpa tata bahasa, sangat sedikit yang dapat disampaikan, namun tanpa kosakata tidak ada yang dapat disampaikan (Wilkins 1972: 111).
