"Latar Belakang. Perubahan peran mamak dalam masyarakat Minangkabau saat ini sudah menjadi sebuah realita sosial. Menguatnya ikatan keluarga batih turut mengurangi peran mamak. Mamak lebih mengutamakan mengurus keluarga batihnya daripada keluarga besarnya. Bergesernya peran mamak di Minangkabau mempengaruhi tatanan sosial hubungan kekerabatan pada keluarga besar. Hubungan mamak dan kemenakan sudah tidak sekuat dulu. Kepentingan kemenakan tidak lagi terpenuhi dengan seharusnya. Perubahan fungsi mamak yang terjadi dewasa ini pada prinsipnya tidak menyalahi aturan adat, selama dapat memposisikan diri antara kepentingan anak dan kemanakan. Tujuan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan hubungan mamak dan kemenakan saat ini menurut adat di Nagari Ampang Tareh. Metode. Karya skripsi ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dan kajian, menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data berupa participant observation dan wawancara mendalam. Kesimpulan. Hubungan mamak dan kemenakan tidak sekuat dulu. Hal ini disebabkan karena menguatnya hubungan mamak dan anak kandung.

Background. Changing the role of mamak in the Minangkabau community has became a social reality.
Strengthening of nuclear family reduce the role of mamak to nephew. Mamak prefers taking care of his
nuclear family rather than his extended family. The shifting role of mamak in Minangkabau affects the social
structure of kinship relations in extended families. The relationship between mamak and nephew is not as
strong as before. Nephew's interests are no longer fulfilled as they should. Changing in mamak functions that
occur today in principle do not violate customary rules, as long as they can position themselves between the
interests of children and children. Objective. This study aims to describe the current relationship between
mamak and nephew according to adat in Nagari Ampang Tareh. Method. This thesis uses qualitative research
methods and studies, using data collection techniques in the form of participant observation and in-depth
interviews. Conclusion. The relationship between mamak and nephew is not as strong as before. This is due to
the strengthening relationship between mamak and biological children."

"This research wants to find out the character and function of mamak (the maternal uncle) and ninik mamak (the adat chiefs) and also the background their depiction in Sitti Nurbaya and Anak dan Kemenakan by Marah Rusli. The theoretical framework which is applied in the research is sociology literature approach. The application of this theory in this research based on the point of view that literature is a social and cultural product that could be able to analysis with the social and cultural approach. Literary work, then, cannot be fully understood apart from the milieu or culture in which it was produced. It must be studied in the widest possible context. Every literary work is the result of a complex interaction of social an cultural factors.
The conclusion of this research states that the depiction of mamak and ninik mamak of Sitti Nurbaya and Anak dan Kemenakan are different from the concept of them according to Minangkabau's custom. Mamak and Ninik mamak are two important elements in whole Minangkabau social structure. They have responsibility in daily life of their own matrilineal kinship group. They also have to respected to the adat regulation. In Sitti Nurbaya and Anak dan Kemenakan, mamak dan ninik mamak are depicted in the atmosphere conflict between those who wishes and disires to keep the tradition and those who wishes an improvement in apply of adat.
The depiction of the character and the function of them is influenced by several factors. Firstly, the background of the writer. Marah Rusli came from the coastal lowland of Minangkabau (Rantau) which it has differentiation in social culture from the interior highland (Darat). Secondly, Sitti Nurbaya and Anak dan Kemanakan are published by Balai Pustaka which it had several clafication and wisdom in publishing literary work. Thirdly, the social history influences. The education aspect has a stimulating effect on awakening Indonesia young generation's consciousness in their life. Marah Rusli, one of the Indonesia young writer, was influenced by the time and his education and wishes an improvement in application of adat system in society."

" ABSTRAK
Dalam kehidupan masyarakat Indonesia, dikenal adanya bentuk perkawinan turun ranjang. Akibat dari adanya perkawinan tersebut, perlu diketahui bagaimana kedudukan waris anak bawaan suami dari perkawinan sebelumnya dalam hal isteri dari ayahnya yang merupakan ibu tiri sekaligus bibinya itu meninggal dunia dan meninggalkan duda dan saudara kandung untuk mewaris. Penelitian pada skripsi ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode penelitian yuridis normatif yang mengacu pada norma hukum yang terdapat dalam peraturan perundang-undangan serta norma-norma yang berlaku dan mengikat masyarakat. Menurut hukum Islam, perkawinan turun ranjang adalah sah untuk dilakukan apabila dilakukan sesuai dengan rukun dan syarat yang berlaku dan memiliki akibat hukum yang sama dengan bentuk perkawinan yang dilakukan pada umumnya di masyarakat. Terkait dengan kedudukan waris anak bawaan suami dalam perkawinan turun ranjang, ia hanya dapat menjadi ahli waris dengan kedudukannya sebagai kemenakan walaupun ia juga berkedudukan sebagai anak tiri. Akan tetapi, apabila berdasarkan ketentuan kewarisan Islam ia tidak dapat mewaris sebagai kemenakan, maka ia dapat memperoleh bagian harta warisan sebagai anak tiri sesuai dengan ketentuan kewarisan Islam.
ABSTRACT In Indonesian society, there is a form of marriage called turun ranjang. Regarding the marriage, there arises an issue about the position of the husband rsquo s child, from his previous marriage, as an heir in case the wife of the father, who was his her aunt and also stepmother, died and left a widower and siblings to inherit. The method used in this research is normative juridical methods, which conducted on the positive law and written and unwritten law that live in society. According to Islamic law, turun ranjang marriage is legitimate if done in accordance with tenets and terms that apply and has the same legal consequences with the other form of a marriage conducted in general in society. Regarding of the husband rsquo s child rsquo s position as an heir, he can only get the inheritance as the nephew niece although he she was also a nephew niece of the decease. However, when based on the provisions of the Islamic inheritance law the child could not inherit as a nephew niece, then he she can get the inheritance as a step child in accordance with the provisions of Islamic inheritance law. "

"Skripsi ini membahas pelaksanaan adat bermamak kemenakan yang merugikan kemenakan dalam Didjemput Mamaknja melalui analisis tokoh dan temanya. Penelitian ini untuk menunjukkan kekuasaan mamak yang kuat terhadap kehidupan rumahtangga kemenakan menyebabkan hilangnya kebahagiaan bagi kemeakan.Selain itu,dalam skripsi ini juga akan dijelaskan adanya pengaruh pemikiran para pendiri Sumatra Thawalib mengenai pelaksanaan adat Minangkabau yang tidak sealan dengan Islam saat Hamka menulis Didjemput Mamaknja. Berdasarkan analisis,didapatkan kesimpulan bahwa Didjemput Mamaknja karya Hamka mengkritik kekuasaan mamak yang melebihi peran suami dalam kehidupan rumah tangga kemeakan."
