ABSTRACT
Background: United Nations states that Indonesia has tendency to increase life expectancy in 2010-2015 by 71.7, and expected to increase to 77.6 in 2045-2050. This can increase the burden of handling non-communicable diseases. Therefore, research was conducted aiming to find herbal extracts that can slow down aging process in old mice by reviewing histopathological parameters. Centella asiatica (CA) is known to be potential in reducing the rate of aging in cerebrum. Method: The study was conducted using 4 groups: negative control, treatment (CA 300 mg/kgBW), positive control (Vitamine E 6 IU) and young mice days with each minimum sample size of 4. After 28 days of treatment, rats were terminated and brain preparations were taken to make histopathological preparations in 2 parts of hippocampus section : dentate gyrus and CA3. The preparations then identified 4 variables : normal cell density, abnormal cell density, pyramidal cell density, picnotic cell density and total cell density. The analysis was carried out comparatively. Results: At the end of the treatment, the positive control group was not analyzed due to low number of samples. In dentate gyrus, the results of One-way Anova analysis showed significant results on normal cell density and abnormal cell density variables, but Bonferroni's post-hoc analysis showed no significant results in the CA group compared to negative controls and young mice. CA3 preparations did not have significant results in categorical comparative analysis. Discussion: CA is known to have good antioxidant effects but requires a longer duration of treatment to show anti-aging effect."

Tumor otak (TO) merupakan penyebab kematian kedua dari
semua kanker yang terjadi pada anak. TO memiliki gambaran klinis, radiologis
jaringan otak masih berlanjut sampai usia 3 tahun. Data penelitian mengenai TO
pada anak masih sedikit.
Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui gambaran klinis, radiologis, histopatologis dan faktor
prognostik TO di Departemen Ilmu Kesehatan Anak FKUI/ RS. Dr.
Ciptomangunkusumo Jakarta periode tahun 2010 - 2015.
Anak usia
Angka kehidupan TO adalah 37 %. Tidak didapatkan faktor prognostik TO yang
bermakna.
Kesimpulan: Gejala TO tersering adalah sakit kepala, berdasarkan radiologis
faktor prognostik TO pada anak.

Introduction: Breast cancer is the most prominent cancer affects women in the world. This research is aimed to explore the potency of Orange cup coral (Tubastraea coccinea) as a new nature derived cancer drug, through the identification of secondary metabolites from its extract, and explore its potency in inhibiting breast cancer cell line MCF-7 growth. Method: Identification and analysis of metabolites from ethanol, acetic ethyl, and n- hexane extracts of Tubastraea coccinea, obtained from Kalimantan island, was done using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS). MTT assay using various concentration (3,125 μg/mL-200 μg/mL) was done to analyse the cytotoxicity of all the extracts to MCF-7 cell line compare to doxorubicin. Result: Ethanol extract of Tubastraea coccinea was identified to contain 21 metabolites, with the highest concentration was 1,2-Benzendicarboxylic acid (13.89 %). 23 metabolites was identified from acetic ethyl extract, with 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, mono (2-ethylhexyl) ester as the highest concentration (18.3 %), whereas from n-hexane extracts was found to have 28 metabolites, and Cholest-5-en-3-ol was the most prominent (9.06 %). Benzenedicarboxylic acid is identified in all extracts. MTT assay showed that the cytotoxicity of all extracts is concentration dependent, with IC50 12.08 μg/mL, 18.02 μg/mL, 30.66 μg/mL, for extracts of ethanol, acetic ethyl and n-hexane respectively. Compared to all the extracts of T. coccinea, doxorubicin showed significantly stronger effect in the inhibition of growth of MCF-7 cell line (p<0.01) , with IC50 5.99E-4 μg/mL. Conclusion: Extracts of Tubastraea coccinea contain metabolites that give it potency to be used as breast cancer chemotherapy."
