" Di Indonesia, beberapa tahun terakhir ini, seiring dengan meningkatnya fenomena Rising China, terjadi peningkatan jumlah sekolah yang mengajarkan pelajaran bahasa Mandarin. Peningkatan ini sebagian juga disebabkan oleh berakhirnya periode Orde Baru yang membuka luas kesempatan bagi keturunan etnis Tionghoa untuk mendapat pendidikan bahasa Mandarin. Tren tersebut memunculkan pertanyaan, apakah terbukanya kembali kesempatan belajar bahasa Mandarin pada etnis Tionghoa tersebut menimbulkan adanya re-asersi ke-'Tionghoa'-an di antara etnis Tionghoa di Indonesia yang berorientasi akhir pada 'negeri leluhur' ... "
