Gaharu is a fragrant wood that has been used in religious, medicinal and aromatic properties. Six genera (24 species) of the family Thymelaeaceae (Aetoxylon, Aquilaria, Enkleia, Gyrunops, Gonystylus, Gyrinops, and Gonystylus (9 species) are cultivated in the Bogor Botanical Garden.
