"Tujuan yang ingin dicapai dari penelitian ini adalah menggambarkan pemanfaatan OPAC dan mengidentifikasi kendala yang dihadapi dalam pemanfaatannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan cara mengumpulkan data melalui metode wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pemanfaatan di perpustakaan Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati Cirebon oleh pengguna masih belum optimal. Kendala dalam penggunaan OPAC terdiri dari dua, yaitu kendala internal dan kendala eksternal. Diantara kendala internal yang ditemukan diantaranya 1) tidak mempunyai banyak waktu untuk melakukan penelusuran dengan OPAC, 2) terlalu banyak temuan (list) dan 3) harus tahu dengan kata kunci yang tepat. Kendala eksternal yang dihadapi pengguna dalam menggunakan fasilitas OPAC diantaranya, 1) sering mati lampu, 2) akses OPAC yang lambat, 3) keterbatasan jumlah komputer, 4) komputer banyak yang rusak dan 5) perbedaan antara informasi di OPAC dan di rak.

The objectives of this study is to describe the utilization of OPAC and identify the obstacles encountered in its utilization. This study used a qualitative approach by collecting data through interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this study concluded that the utilization of the library of the Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati Cirebon by the user is still not optimal. Constraints in the use of OPAC consists of two, namely the internal constraints and external constraints.

Among the internal constraints that are found include 1) do not have much time to do a search with OPAC, 2) too many findings (list), and 3) must know the appropriate keywords. External constraints faced by users in using the OPAC facilities including, 1) often there is electricity, 2) a slow OPAC access, 3) limited number of computers, 4) there are many demaged computers 5) there are different information between OPAC and on the shelves."

"The development of information technology has prompted traditional catalogue to become online catalogue (OPAC). Since OPAC is mostly developed on the basis of traditional catalogue, it solely puts the text version of the traditional catalogue to online. Instead, visual information can also be provided online easily. The recommendation to add several visual features in OPAC is expected to make it more useful for users. Survey shows that the additional features are expected by users to be available in OPAC."

"This article describes the functions of librarian as an intermediary on the online searching. An intermediary roles emerge as an implications of growth of information technology and spread out over the world, particularly on the online searching. Extended implications of this development has changed the user's behavior to seek information. The librarian should anticipate those shifting users behavior. Some theories, opinion, and argument from experts in online searching and librarians reviewed in this article and found that two functions of the librarian as an intermediary are as a user and as a searcher of online database. This article also describes the qualifications of the librarian as an intermediary namely self-confident, thinking logically, communicative, capability to sell information, understand the searching subject, patient and having effort to share the information to the users. "
