Kawaii dan karakter merupakan salah satu budaya populer Jepang yang banyak digandrungi dalam berbagai cara, gaya, dan bentuk. Perusahaan Sanrio melihat peluang ini dan menciptakan karakter-karakter kartun yang ditambahkan dengan kesan kawaii. Karakter terkenal seperti Hello Kitty sebagai pemicu keberhasilan Sanrio yang akhirnya menjadikan perusahaan ini sebagai perusahaan yang memproduksi banyak karakter-karakter kawaii lainnya dan mengubah kawaii menjadi komoditas dan merek dagang yang sangat populer di seluruh Jepang dan dunia. Produksi karakter kawaii dengan jumlah yang besar, cakupan pemasaran yang luas, penggunaan media massa, dan tingginya minat masyarakat terhadap keunikan karakter Sanrio menjadikan Sanrio sebagai salah satu perusahaan raksasa Jepang dalam industri karakter serta menjadikan karakter kawaii sebagai salah satu bagian dari banyaknya budaya populer di Jepang .
ABSTRACT Kawaii and characters is one of the most popular culture in Japan which so much beguiled in many ways, styles and forms. Sanrio company see this opportunity and created cartoon characters with adding kawaii image Famous character such as Hello Kitty was prompt in Sanrio's success that in the end made this company as a company that produced many other kawaii characters and changed kawaii into commodity and trade mark that really popular in Japan and all over the world. "[ABSTRAK
Jurnal ini membahas tentang fenomena love hotel di dalam budaya Jepang kontemporer. Pembahasan ini
menggunakan konsep kebudayaan massa, penjelasan definisi dari kata love hotel serta konsep empat fenomena dalam kebudayaan massa Jepang. Hal yang dianalisis memfokuskan pada eksistensi love hotel di Jepang serta perkembangan tempat penginapan yang merupakan asal usul dari love hotel. Penelitian menggunakan metode
analisis deskriptif dengan pendekatan ekstrinsik, melalui tinjauan kepustakaan. Tujuan penulisan jurnal ini adalah untuk menjelaskan eksistensi dan perkembangan love hotel di dalam budaya Jepang kontemporer. Dari
hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan keberadaan love hotel di wilayah Jepang telah memberikan suatu nuansa yang berbeda dari hotel pada umumnya di dalam budaya Jepang kontemporer. Keunikan yang ditawarkan love hotel
dapat membuat hotel tersebut tetap bertahan sampai sekarang di Jepang.

ABSTRACT
This journal discusses the phenomenon of love hotel in contemporary Japanese culture. This discussion uses
the concept of mass culture, the definition of the word love hotel and the concept of four phenomenon in
Japanese mass culture. The analysis will focus on the existence of love hotel in Japan and the development of the inn which is the origin of love hotel. This research uses the method of descriptive analysis with extrinsic
approach, and literary study. The purpose of this journal is to explain the existence and development of the love hotel in contemporary Japanese culture. The result of this journal concludes the existence of love hotel has provided a different feel from the hotel in general ini contemporary Japanese culture. Penelitian ini membahas perubahan kehidupan seorang Ama di Prefektur Mie ditinjau dari aspek sosial budaya. Ama merupakan wanita yang menyelam ke dalam laut untuk mengambil tumbuhan laut dan hewan laut, seperti rumput laut dan awabi (siput laut) tanpa menggunakan tabung oksigen. Seiring dengan perubahan zaman, kehidupan Ama di Prefektur Mie juga mengalami beberapa perubahan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memaparkan perubahan kehidupan Ama di Prefektur Mie ditinjau dari aspek sosial budaya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif bersifat deskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perubahan-perubahan dalam kehidupan Ama di Prefektur Mie, seperti perubahan dalam cara berpakaian, perubahan populasi awabi, perubahan penghasilan Ama, dan perubahan populasi Ama;

New era resulted in some changes in Ama life in Prefecture Mie. The purpose of this study focuses on the explanation about the changes of Ama life in Prefecture Mie based on its social and cultural aspect. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. "Penelitian ini membahas tentang praktik diplomasi publik Jepang dalam melaksanakan sebuah program pertukaran pemuda antara Jepang dengan negara-negara anggota ASEAN bernama JENESYS. JENESYS sebagai alat diplomasi publik Jepang bertujuan untuk memengaruhi opini publik tentang Jepang, sehingga Jepang memiliki reputasi yang baik di kalangan khalayak internasional. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori diplomasi publik abad 21 yang dikemukakan oleh Gyorgy Szondi untuk menganalisis program JENESYS pada tahun 2007 hingga 2014 dengan kegiatan-kegiatan di dalamnya, dan menjelaskan hubungan antara JENESYS dengan nation branding. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif. Dalam penelitian ditemukan bahwa JENESYS berkepentingan untuk mempromosikan budaya Jepang sekaligus memengaruhi publik asing dalam meningkatkan reputasi Jepang.

This study discusses about the practice of Japan 39s public diplomacy in the implementation of JENESYS mdash a youth exchange program between Japan and the member states of ASEAN. JENESYS as a tool of Japanese public diplomacy aims to influence public opinion about Japan, so Japan has a good reputation amongst international audiences. This study uses the 21st century public diplomacy theory pointed out by Gyorgy Szondi in analyzing the JENESYS program from 2007 until 2014 and its activities, and explains the relationship between JENESYS and nation branding. Qualitative descriptive study is the method of this study. The result of this study indicates that JENESYS has a national interest to promote Japanese culture as well as to influence foreign public in enhancing Japan 39s reputation.

"Female Gaze merupakan sebuah konsep yang dikembangkan sebagai rekasi terhadap male gaze yang dikemukakan oleh Laura Mulvey di 1975. Konsep ini dapat didefiniskan sebagai persepektif kaum wanita terhadap dunia sekitar mereka tanpa memikirkan gender. Sejak penciptaannya, konsep ini telah digunakan oleh banyak orang untuk meneliti pengaruh dari pendapat dan pengaruh kaum wanita terhadap berbagai jenis media. Salah satu media tersebut adalah Taisho Otome Otogibanashi sebuah anime romansa yang berlatar di era Taisho Jepang. Meskipun era tersebut merupakan era yang cukup riuh, era ini telah digunakan sebagai latar dari berbagai karya bergenre sama. Female gaze berperan dalam penggambaran berbagai budaya era ini yang dapat dianggap bermasalah di masa modern. Konsep ini berperan dalam memperkuat perasaan Taisho Roman yang dapat ditemukan di banyak karya fiksi yang menggunakan era ini sebagai latar. Berkat hal tersebut, konsep ini mampu mengubah persepsi orang-orang dari era ini, dan menyebabkan mereka untuk mengabaikan segala masalah yang terdapat di era ini.

The Female Gaze is a concept that was created in reaction to the theory of male gaze put forward by Laura Mulvey in 1975. The concept itself can be defined as the perspective of women towards the world around them regardless of gender. Since its inception, the concept is used by many to study the effects of women’s opinion and perspective to various pieces of media. One such media is Taisho Otome Otogibanashi, a romance anime set during the Taisho era of Japan. Even though the era is a tumultuous one, it has been used as the background of many works of the romance genre. The female gaze is responsible in influencing the depiction of various culture of the era that would be considered problematic in the current age. It is responsible in amplfying the sense of Taisho Romance which is prevalent in so many works of fiction that uses the era as a background. Due to that, it was able to alter people’s perception of the era, and cause them to ignore any problems that might exist within it."

"Konsep honne dan tatemae merupakan salah satu konsep yang penggunaannya dapat ditemukan di semua lapisan masyarakat Jepang. Honne dapat diartikan sebagai perasaan sesungguhnya dan tatemae dapat diartikan sebagai perilaku yang diterima dan diterapkan di masyarakat. Sebenarnya konsep seperti ini tidak hanya ada di negara Jepang saja, namun yang menjadikannya istimewa adalah seringnya frekuensi penggunaan untuk menghindari konflik dan menghormati lawan bicara. Konsep ini akan menimbulkan kesulitan untuk siapapun yang tidak mengenal budaya Jepang dengan baik, terutama orang asing. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan pengaplikasian konsep honne dan tatemae di dalam novel The Blue-Eyed Salaryman karya Niall Murtagh (2009) dan meneliti kecenderungan sikap tokoh utama untuk menghadapi konsep honne dan tatemae. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kepustakaan serta menggunakan konsep honne dan tatemae yang didefinisikan secara ulang oleh Parsol (2010). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa orang asing yang menetap lama di Jepang akan menerapkan budaya Jepang pada kehidupan sehari-harinya agar bisa diterima sebagai bagian dari masyarakat Jepang.

The concept of honne and tatemae is one of the concepts that can be found in Japanese society. Honne can be interpreted as real feelings and tatemae can be interpreted as behavior which is accepted and applied in society. This concept does not only exist in Japan, but Japanese use this concept frequently and they use it because they respect their interlocutor. But this concept will cause difficulties for foreigner in Japan. This research aims to find the concept application in the novel The Blue-Eyed Salaryman : From World Traveller to Lifer at Mitsubishi by Niall Murtagh (2009) and examines the main character attitude to deal with the application of this concept. This research use the literature study method and use the redefined concept of honne and tatemae by Prasol (2010). This research concludes that the foreigner who stay in Japan for a long time will blend with Japanese culture in their daily lives in order to be accepted as a part of Japanese society."
