"In 2017, as an acknowledgement of their extreme popularity in Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, manuscripts of Panji tales were recommended for inclusion in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. This paper will discuss the scope and extent of this popularity, its influence on both Thai classical culture and pop culture, plus a record of the search for its point of entry and manner of introduction into Thai culture. Even though such a search is not as seemingly impossible as Panji’s searches for his fiancée, namely: mangummangaaraa, there are still several gaps to fill in. In particular, this paper proposes that the existence of over a hundred Malay words left untranslated in all the Thai versions of the Panji tales is evidence of a certain degree of Thai-Malay bilingualism in Thailand in the eighteenth century. Changes in the canonical shapes in certain syllables and how these words were pronounced also provide clues to the fact that the tales came into Thai culture through Malay via southern Thailand, and not directly from Javanese, as several scholars believe."

"Panji Dewakusuma Kembar (PDK) merupakan sebuah karya sastra Jawa yang terdapat dalam koleksi Perpustakaan Nasional Republik Indonesia dan tercatat dalam Katalog Naskah Cerita Panji Koleksi Perpustakaan Nasional. Teks PDK memuat cerita tentang Prasonta yang diusir dari pengabdiannya di Jenggala untuk mencari pusaka Jenggala dan mengalami perjalanan hingga menjadi seorang raja di negeri Tunjung Mirah. Permasalahan penelitian adalah bagaimana penokohan Prasonta dan pesan moral Jawa dalam PDK KBG 19? Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkapkan cerita dan pengalaman tokoh utama. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian filologi dengan metode penyuntingan dan penerjemahan kritis. Hasil penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa teks PDK memberikan gambaran Prasonta sebagai manusia Jawa dengan dinamika dunia kebatinannya. Naskah ini juga memberikan sorotan pada bentuk visual Prasonta yang menyerupai Semar.

Panji Dewakusuma Kembar (PDK) is a Javanese literary that included in the collection of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia and recorded in the Katalog Naskah Cerita Panji Koleksi Perustakaan Nasional. The PDK text contains a story about Prasonta who was expelled from his service in Jenggala to look for Jenggala heritage and experienced a journey until he became a king in the land of Tunjung Mirah. The research problem is how is Prasonta's characterization and Javanese moral message in PDK KBG 19? This research aims to reveal the story and experiences of the main character. This research is philological research with critical editing and translation methods. The results of this research state that the PDK text provides a picture of Prasonta as a Javanese man with the dynamics of his spiritual world. This text also highlights Prasonta's visual form which resembles Semar.
