"Skripsi ini merupakan penelitian terhadap dua buah novel karangan Jane Austen, seorang penulis Ing_gris. Tujuan ditulisnya skripsi ini adalah untuk menun_jukkan bahwa Austen menggunakan tokoh-tokoh karikatur untuk menyindir masyarakat kalangan menengah ke atas di akhir abad ke-18. Kedua novel yang saya pilih sebagai data dari sejumlah novel Austen adalah. Pride and Prejudice dan Mansfield Park. Menurut saya, keduanya cukup bisa mewakili novel-novel Austen yang lain. Analisis dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan intrinsik dan ekstrinsik. Dalam pendekatan intrinsik, tokoh dan penokohanlah yang dianalisis.. Sementara pendekatan ekstrinsik pula berupa pendekatan sosiologis dan biografis. Dari analisis tersebut dibuahkan satu kesimpulan bahwa tokoh-tokoh karikatur dalam Pride and Prejddice dan Mansfield Park, tidak saja muncul sebagai penghibur, namun juga sebagai karikatur dari masyarakat Inggris kalangan menengah ke atas di akhir abad ke-18."
