ABSTRAK
Impeachment secara formal didefinisikan merupakan pasal-pasal tentang dakwaan yang terdapat dalam Konstitusi Amerika yaitu pasal I sampai III, yang diberikan kepada House of Representatives, dan yang mengadilinya diserahkan kepada Senat.
Dalam prakteknya, impeachment merupakan proses konstitusional yang berupaya untuk memproteksi kepentingan umum dari kejahatan-kejahatan (crimes), pelanggaran-pelanggaran (misdemeanors), pengkhianatan (treason) dan penyogokan (bribery) yang dilakukan oleh Presiden, Wakil Presiden dan pejabat negara lainnya.
