"ABSTRAKHousekeeping dan The Accidental Tourist adalah dua novel yang ditulis oleh dua penulis Anglo-Amerika. Kedua pengarang menyajikan tema individualisme di Amerika tahun 1980 berdasarkan perspektif kelompok mayoritas.Kedua karya memuat pertentangan antara individualisme dan komunitas, yang kemudian dimenangkan oleh individualisme. Komunitas dalam kedua karya ini begitu menekankan nilai-nilai komunal yang menyebabkan tekanan bagi individu sehingga individu memberontak terhadap nilai-nilai mapan tersebut.Kedua novel menawarkan sebuah gaya hidup alternatif yang disebut drifting. Drifting merupakan salah satu wujud dan individualisme dan menjadi sebuah gaya hidup alternatif bagi masyarakat Amerika tahun 1980-an, yang menolak budaya mapan. Orang yang mempunyai gaya hidup tersebut, tidak tergantung pada materi (uang) dan masa depan, biasanya memilih hidup dalam kemiskinan (simple, natural way of living).Tesis ini membahas drifting yang berkaitan dengan bentuk drifting dan proses perobahan meunju realisasi gaya hidup drifting itu sendiri. Dalam pembahasan selanjutnya, drifting dikaitkan dengan konsep Ulf Hannerz yang berhubungan dengan pandangan "lokal" dan "tidak lokal" (cosmopolitan). Ditemukan bahwa di dalam tesis ird, drifting itu bukan hanya kebebasan individu untuk pindah dari satu tempat ke tempat lain tanpa rencana sebelumnya, tetapi juga merupakan perubahan cara pandang seseorang terhadap dunia.

ABSTRACTHousekeeping and The Accidental Tourist are two novels written by the two, so-called Anglo-American writers. The two authors present the issue of individualism in the American 1980s seen from the perspective of majority group.The two works convey a conflict between individualism and community, but then, it is the individualism to be the priority. Community in the two works is so much to oppress the communal values that bring about the individual's oppression leading to the individual's rebellion against that established values.The two novels offer the notion of an alternative lifestyle, the so-called drifting_ Drifting as an individual's freedom manisfestation becomes the American's alternative lifestyle in the 1980s that refuses to accept the established culture of White Anglo Saxon Protestant. One who adopts this kind of lifestyle does not depend on the material (money) and the future, usually chooses to live in poverty (simple, natural way of living).This thesis discusses drifting in each novel dealing with the form and the process towards the drifting life realization itself. In its tracing, drifting is related to Ulf Hannerz's concept of "local" and "unlocal." (cosmopolitan) views. It's found that in this thesis, drifting is not just the individual freedom to move from one place to another without any plans and destinies, but the change of individual's way of view towards the world as well."

"ABSTRAKDalam skripsi ini dibahas mengenai gambaran perempuan Belanda di Hindia Belanda pada akhir tahun 1930 melalui kisah perjalanan Eens op Java en Sumatra 1948 karya Mary Pos, perempuan penulis dan jurnalis Belanda. Dalam karyanya, Mary Pos terutama menyoroti kehidupan kaum perempuan Belanda di Hindia Belanda. Penggambaran perempuan Belanda yang dituliskan oleh Mary Pos ini berbeda dari karya perempuan penulis perjalanan Belanda sebelumnya. Perempuan Belanda dalam kisah perjalanan ini digambarkan lebih aktif dan banyak disibukkan dengan berbagai kegiatan. Misalnya dalam buku ini dibahas mengenai berbagai pekerjaan yang dilakukan perempuan Belanda seperti pegawai di sebuah kantor, tenaga medis, tenaga pendidik, aktivis gerakan sosial maupun aktivis dalam bidang penyebaran agama, dan bahkan beberapa dari mereka memiliki jabatan tinggi di dalam pekerjaannya. Dengan mengacu kepada konsep mengenai perempuan Belanda di Hindia Belanda awal tahun 1900-an oleh De Wever 2003 dan Gouda 2008 , serta penerapan metode penelitian sejarah serta artikel-artikel dari surat kabar sezaman, maka dianalisis berbagai penggambaran kehidupan perempuan Belanda menurut Mary Pos.

ABSTRACTThis thesis discusses the description of Dutch women in the Dutch East Indies in the late 1930s through the travel writing of Eens op Java en Sumatra 1948 by Mary Pos, Dutch writer and journalist. In her work, Mary Pos primarily highlighted the lives of Dutch women in Dutch East Indies. In contrast to the work of previous Dutch female travel writers, Dutch women in this travel story are described as being more active and more preoccupied with various activities. One of the example is this book discusses about various Dutch women rsquo s jobs such as employees in an office, medical personnel, educators, social movement activists and activists in the field of spreading religion, and even some of them have high positions in their job. Referring to the concept of Dutch women in the early Indies of the 1900s by De Wever 2003 and Gouda 2008 , also the historical research methods and articles from contemporary newspapers, then various depictions of Dutch women 39 s life according to Mary Pos were analyzed.
