Di Indonesia nama Montesquieu lebih dikenal di kalangan hukum karena karyanya yang termasyhur yang berjudul L'Esprit des Lois (Hakikat Hukum) (1748) biasanya dikaji secara mendalam di fakultas-fakultas hukum di negeri kita. Karya ini menjelaskan dan menjabarkan Trias Politica, yaitu pentingnya kekuasaan pemerintahan suatu negara dibagi dalam tiga kekuasaan yang terpisah: l.eksekutif, 2. yudikatif, dan 3. legislatif.
