" Mutasi kodon 59 (GGCglisinGACaspartat) pada gen globin 2 (HBA2:c.179G>A) merupakan jenis mutasi titik yang paling sering ditemukan pada pasien talasemia-  di Indonesia. Homosigot mutasi ini menyebabkan kematian janin dan berpotensi untuk menjadi penyebab komplikasi yang serius pada ibunya, padahal masih terdapat dua gen globin-α1 yang masih utuh.
