"This book chronicles Indias quest for universal elementary education (UEE) with focus on the period after 1986, a period during which India made spectacular strides progressing from a country which accounted for a third to one with a minuscule 0.3 per cent of the out-of-school children in the world. This was also the period in which following the Jomtien Conference on Education for All and the acute macroeconomic crisis of early 1990s India mobilized funding on an unprecedented scale from development agencies like the World Bank, European Community, DFID, and UNICEF. For the first time, this book comprehensively narrates against the backdrop of national and global ideational, economic, political, and educational developments the dynamics of the engagement with development agencies, and all developments, policies, and programmes which contributed to spectacular strides. The distinctiveness of the book lies in the fact that for the first time for a book on education, and unusual even for books on policy and development cooperation the book illuminates the inner workings of governments and development agencies, the political and administrative processes and policy conflicts that were crucial in conceptualizing and implementing the policies and programmes, the complex web of interactions between the central government, state governments, and development agencies, and the innovative manner in which external funds were mobilized with the Indian government exercising leadership in its relationship with agencies, and without compromising its right country to autonomously and self-reliantly plan and implement programmes. All in all, the book provides information and many insights few, even experts, possess, and should be of interest to not only to educationists, and educational administrators but also to scholars and practitioners of development cooperation and policymaking in general."

This research analyzes the relation between intersectionality on poor women and the effectiveness of anti violence against women policy. Even though it has been revised in 2003 and 2011, Pre Natal Diagnostic Technique Act of 1994 created by the Indian government to abolish the practice of sex-selective abortion SSA failed to increase the number of female birth in sex ratio at birth calculation in Indian. This study attempts to analyze the causes of this failure with qualitative method and secondary data. Analysis of literature review, government statistical data and policy manuscripts through intersectionality theory shows that the neglect of structural intersectionality in the policy making process has made PCPNDT Act of 1994 ineffective in eliminating violence against women.

Tiga teks pidato dari situs resmi Narendra Modi dipilih untuk diteliti berdasarkan dinamika pandemi di India, dengan judul “From midnight, the entire country shall go under complete lockdown”, “Fight against Coronavirus has become people-driven”, dan “India’s response to Coronavirus is one of self-confidence and self-reliance”.

COVID-19 terribly impacted India from the beginning of 2020 until the middle of 2021. Political observers suggested that the situation happens due to the lack of maximum governance of PM Narendra Modi, but his political duty in spreading ideology persists. Ideology highlights common identity which motivates the mass to follow the persuasions of politicians in speeches. This paper aims to disclose the ideology contained in the speeches of PM Narendra Modi on COVID-19 related to his Hindutva or Hindu nationalism movement. Three speeches from the official website of Narendra Modi have been chosen in accordance with pandemic dynamics in India, titled “From midnight, the entire country shall go under complete lockdown”, “Fight against Coronavirus has become people-driven”, and “India’s response to Coronavirus is one of self-confidence and self-reliance”. For disclosure of the ideology in the speeches, Critical Discourse Analysis by Fairclough is used to describe the linguistic features with Transitivity Analysis from Halliday, to interpret the main themes, and to explain the ideology. The main themes and transitivity process are generated with descriptive-qualitative methods, aided by quantitative method. It was found that the speeches of PM Modi are underlined with solidarity as a manifestation of a Hindu principle “Vasudhaiva kutumbakam”, translated to English as “The world is our family”, which are delivered through relational process (54.38%)."

"The political discourse in India experienced a fundamental shift when the Sachar Committee Report revealed that despite the national and state governments minority development policies and programmes, the Muslim community was among the most deprived and backward, worse off than the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, in most of the outcome indicators. Many new pro-poor and inclusive policies were introduced as a response to the recommendations of the report. This book makes a critical assessment of the impact of post-Sachar policies, bridging the gaps in empirical measurements and analytical documentation, and making them accessible to the public at large. The book recommends policies and institutions required for ensuring the constitutional right to equal opportunity for all Indian citizens, especially minorities, such as setting up of an Equal Opportunity Commission and systematically computing a diversity index to improve the process of assimilation of the deprived groups, including the minorities, into the national mainstream.

"This book is an attempt towards a fresh understanding of the political economy of womens work in India and its relationship with the Indian state. The study critically analyses the concept and politics of work, worker, and women workers. The politics of the social, social welfare, and social policy is defined very close to how the public and the private are defined. There is an extension of the domestic into the public in the context of women workers in the social welfare schemes like the honorary workers. The study analyses the history and politics of work and womens work in the Indian context through a case study of honorary workers in the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme. The book examines how women figure in the states social welfare policies, making a link between the politics around womens work and social welfare policies. It contributes towards a better understanding of the broader political framework constructed by the political economy of the state within which womens work gets defined as honorary. The study examines the complexities around the weakening of social sector services with the withdrawal of state support under globalization coinciding with the need and demand for expansion of the horizon of state welfare schemes and programmes like the ICDS and its anganwadis. With more and more women especially from poor or lower-middle-class background employed in new social welfare schemes where the form of work is defined as voluntary social service, the book brings into attention the issue of further marginalization and exploitation of women workers especially from the lower or middle class by the Indian state.

"This volume highlights some emerging issues in the study of displaced persons in India, like the agency and voices of people who flee across an international border, the identities they forge for themselves, their relations with the hosts and their interactions with the state and non-governmental organizations. Three case studies included here are: (a) Partition refugees from East Pakistan to West Bengal, (b) Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka to India, and (c) Bangladesh Liberation War refugees from East Pakistan to West Bengal. The reader will find that each case is in itself highly complex. The treatment meted out to the displaced people in India has not been consistent. The volume shows that the responses of the state to cross-border displacement have been varied over space and time."
