"Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s nomination as vice presidential candidate by John McCain not only changed the landscape of the current election, but also marked a shift in leadership style across our country. Exploring themes from her career in politics, her life as a hockey mom, and her strongly held Christian Faith, the author discusses the leadership principles that made Palin successful."

"In this, the first book on the effects of Exxon Valdez in 15 years, scientists directly involved in studying the spill provide a comprehensive perspective on, and synthesis of, scientific information on long-term spill effects. The coverage is multidisciplinary, with chapters discussing a range of issues including effects on biota, successes and failures of post-spill studies and techniques, and areas of continued disagreement. An even-handed and critical examination of more than two decades of scientific study, this is an invaluable guide for studying future oil spills and, more broadly, for unraveling the consequences of any large environmental disruption."

This article discusses the foreign policy stance of the United States in dealing with the Alaska and British Columbia boundary dispute which at that time coincided with the Klondike Gold Rush. The purchase of Alaska from Russia by the United States in 1867 and the incorporation of British Columbia into a province of Canada in 1871 caused Alaska to border directly with Canadian territory. In 1896, gold was discovered in the Klondike River region in the Yukon Territory and a gold rush occurred over the next few years which had a positive impact on the economies of the United States and Canada. The economic impact of the gold rush coupled with unclear boundary lines caused Canada to claim part of Alaska, which America considered that this claim was not in accordance with the boundary agreement inherited by the United Kingdom and Russia in 1825. This article was prepared using historical methods in the form of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, using a variety of relevant primary and secondary sources. Previous research on this topic focused more on discussing the causes and process of dispute resolution from a political perspective, without discussing the Klondike Gold Rush which was an important factor in the escalation of this dispute. This article shows that the foreign policy stance of the United States in this case was influenced by the rise of American imperialism at the end of the 19th century. It is hoped that this research will improve understanding of geopolitics in North America in the late 19th century."
