"ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap pesan dibalik konstruksi sosial kulit putih dalam serial Orange Is The New Black. Difokuskan dengan dua karakter kulit putih yang kontradiktif dari latar belakang yang juga sangat berbeda, tujuan tulisan ini adalah untuk mengobservasi stereotip dari penggambaran wanita dari kalangan lsquo;kulit putih miskin rsquo; hingga kelas menengah ke atas. Konstruksi sosial kulit putih dalam serial ini direpresentasikan lewat berbagai macam dialog dan simbol, baik di masa sekarang atau kejadian di masa lampau. Penelitian ini juga membahas isu kelas, lebih spesifiknya kepada dampak yang tokoh-tokoh ini rasakan di dalam serial tersebut. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa budaya populer, dalam hal ini serial televisi, mempunyai peran penting dalam menulis kembali konstruksi sosial kulit putih yang dipercaya oleh masyarakat.

ABSTRACTThe focus of this research is to discover the social construction of whiteness in the first season of Orange Is The New Black 2009 . By concentrating on two contradictory white characters from two distinct backgrounds, the goal of this journal is to examine the stereotypical representation of upper class, privileged, white woman and white trash. This journal examines the two characters from different backgrounds, which are the upper class, privileged white woman and poor white trash. The social construction of whiteness in this series is depicted through dialogues and symbols, both from the present time and the flashback scenes of their past. The paper also discussed class issue in terms of specifying the impacts they received throughout the series. This research shows that popular culture mdash in this case, television series mdash helped to re inscribe socially constructed stereotypes of whiteness."
