"Wakaf merupakan instrumen ekonomi Islam yang sifatnya dapat dikembangkan tanpa mengurangi harta pokok wakaf. Indonesia sebagai negara dengan populasi penduduk beragama Islam terbesar di dunia, memiliki potensi wakaf yang besar. Namun potensi tersebut belum diimbangi dengan kemampuan nazhir dalam mengelola harta wakaf. Mayoritas nazhir di Indonesia belum melaksanakan tugasnya secara profesional. Sehingga potensi tersebut belum dikembangkan secara maksimal. Tulisan ini membahas tentang perkembangan hukum wakaf di Indonesia, kriteria nazhir yang mampu mengelola wakaf secara produktif di Indonesia, serta pengelolaan wakaf produktif di Indonesia. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data bersifat yuridis-normatif. Untuk memaksimalkan potensi wakaf, maka nazhir harus memiliki lima modal dasar serta tiga prinsip yang memenuhi kriteria nazhir profesional. Selain itu nazhir juga harus mengelola harta wakaf secara produktif, agar manfaat harta wakaf dapat dirasakan masyarakat.

Waqf is an Islamic economy instrument which is the assets can be developed without

reducing the main assets of waqf. Indonesia as the biggest Islamic population in the world

have a great potential in waqf. However, that potency is not supported yet by the capacity

and skill from the Nazhir who manage that waqf assets. A lot of nazhir in Indonesia is not yet

doing their job profesionally. So that the potency of waqf in Indonesia is not yet maximally

developed. This thesis discuss about the development of waqf law in Indonesia, requirement

of nazhir who can manage the assets of waqf productively in Indonesia, and also the

management of waqf productive in Indonesia. The methode of this thesis use the qualitative

approaching, also collecting the data technique which is use the yuridis-normative method.

To reach the goal of waqf, nazhir at least must have the five basic and three principal of the

professional nazhir requirement. Beside that, nazhir should manage the assets of waqf

productively, so that the benefit of that waqf assets can be felt and distribute to the society."
