"ABSTRAKKarya ilmiah ini meneliti pengaruh standar kecantikan yang ada di Instagram dalam membentuk identitas online mahasiswi-mahasiswi. Riset ini menelaah apakah mahasiswi-mahasiswi berselaras dengan standar kecantikan yang ditetapkan oleh masyarakat yang ada di situs jejaring sosial tersebut; seberapa penting hal itu dilakukan dan cara mereka melakukannya untuk membangun identitas online yang diinginkan. Subyek studi ini adalah mahasiswi-mahasiswi berumur 18 sampai 24 tahun dan data akan dikumpulkan dengan cara menyebarkan kuisioner online. Dari studi ini, dapat dibuktikan bahwa mahasisiwi-mahasiswi yang sering menggunakan Instagram paham akan adanya standar kecantikan di gambar-gambar yang diposting di media sosial tetapi mereka memilih untuk tidak menyesuaikan dengan standar kecantikan tersebut.

ABSTRACTThis paper examines the impact of beauty standards on Instagram in shaping female university students rsquo online identity. The research explores whether or not female university students conform to the ideal of beauty set by society on the social networking site, the importance of following the standards of beauty that exist on Instagram, as well as the way they follow beauty standards on Instagram and applying these benchmarks to construct a desirable online identity. Female university students between the ages of 18 to 24 will be the subjects for this study and the data will be collected through the distributions of online questionnaire. From this study, it is proven that most of the university student who use Instagram frequently understand the existence of beauty standards on pictures posted on the social media but choose not to conform to it."
