The Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" encapsulates the spirit of the Summer of Love in 1967, a period marked by a powerful counterculture movement advocating for peace, love, and freedom. This study employs a dual visual methodology, drawing on Gillian Rose's frameworks of content analysis and compositional interpretation, to delve into the song's lyrics and its video performance. By contextualizing the analysis within the socio-cultural milieu of 1967, with a focus on the Summer of Love and the counterculture movement, this study sheds light on how "All You Need Is Love" served as a rallying cry for societal change from conventional norms to a more open, inclusive society. Furthermore, the study examines the song's impact, exploring how it was consumed as a form of protest and a representation of love and peace amidst the tumultuous socio-political landscape, particularly in response to issues like the Vietnam War and civil rights movements. The findings of this study underscore the enduring relevance and impact of The Beatles' message of love and peace, resonating across generations. However, limitations in data availability and the inherent subjectivity of visual interpretation warrant cautious interpretation of the results. Moving forward, future research could explore additional visual methodologies to enrich the understanding of the song's cultural significance and its role in shaping collective consciousness.

All You Need is Love.

Love is one of essential things that belong to human, but not every human can understand the significance of love itself nonetheless. In point of fact, if love is capable of being understood wholeheartedly, then all human will definitely be able to get hold of their own existences along with the power to satisfy their quality of life, one of which is an absolute humanity since love is the greatest key to reach the humanity itself. The concept of profound love becomes hard to reach since the significance of love has been generalized and limited that humans cannot explore the love they possess which causes their hopes in life turn out to be difficult to achieve. Therefore, Gabriel Marcel, an existentialist philosopher, brings back the concept of profound love which livens up humans not just as having but being, and he breaks the entire concept of love whose significance has been narrowed. Then all of this comes along with John Lennon’s idea which redefines the concept of love all the way through both his artworks and thoughts that have been summarized in All You Need is Love song. This thesis will reopen the concept of love and reformulate the significance of love through the thoughts of Gabriel Marcel and John Lennon which make us able to see love as a mystery not a problem that has to be solved. Finally, right through All You Need is Love song, we are able to understand love as the essential role of life. "

"Music Education for Social Change: Constructing an Activist Music Education develops an activist music education rooted in principles of social justice and anti-oppression. Based on the interviews of 20 activist-musicians across the United States and Canada, the book explores the common themes, perceptions, and philosophies among them, positioning these activist-musicians as catalysts for change in music education while raising the question: amidst racism and violence targeted at people who embody difference, how can music education contribute to changing the social climate?
Music has long played a role in activism and resistance. By drawing upon this rich tradition, educators can position activist music education as part of a long-term response to events, as a crucial initiative to respond to ongoing oppression, and as an opportunity for youth to develop collective, expressive, and critical thinking skills. This emergent activist music education—like activism pushing toward social change—focuses on bringing people together, expressing experiences, and identifying (and challenging) oppressions. Grounded in practice with examples integrated throughout the text, Music Education for Social Change is an imperative and urgent consideration of what may be possible through music and music education."

This study examines the cultural codes linked to the history of racial discrimination, oppression, and violence in America in the music video of `This Land`, by applying Barthes` classification of codes and Hall`s theory of representation. The music video foregrounds American settler colonial roots of white supremacy ideology that legitimizes a system of oppression towards black people and colored people alike. As such, the music video represents racial issue in contemporary America as a system that persists throughout the history, and remains represented through symbols. Lastly, this study finds that “This Land” deconstructs and subverts the ideology of white supremacy and discourse of racism embodied in the symbols."

Music Video is not a foreign platform to critic or to protest. A musician can express their relevant opinion or protest against an instantion or an organization through a music video. Criticism and protest can be accepted and can be understood easier by the consumers with music video as the platform. Particularly in this era of globalization music video is one of the easiest way for musicians to draw attention from the music lovers. Other than drawing attention from the music lovers, a musician can also gain more supporters who support the musician so that the criticism and protest of the musician can be heard even more. In it’s application, majority of the criticism which is voiced by musicians such as Pussy Riot, is the conflict between the Government and the citizens. Music video titled “Chaika” produced by Pussy Riot in the year 2016 is a music video that is used by the Pussy Riot to critic a Russian Prosecutor named Yury Chaika and the President Putin’s reign. The music video This research uses the method of Critical Discourse Analysis by Fairclough. Moreover this research also use the theory of Counter-Hegemony by Antonio Gramsci and Putinism theory to support the writing. The result of this research elaborates how Pussy Riot uses Music Video of “Chaika” as a platform to express Counter-Hegemony against the Putin’s reign through “Chaika” music video visual and lyrics."
