ABSTRACT
This paper reports the finding from a study on the phonological awareness skills of 30 Indonesian first grade students. Participants were tested on identifying syllable length, blending task, syllable detection, reversing syllable in nonwords, reversing phoneme in nonwords, and choosing picture with the same rime. It was found that syllabic awareness as assessed by the identifying syllable length, syllable detection, and reversing syllable in nonwords, was relatively easy for Indonesian students while reversing phoneme in nonwords found to be the most difficult task. These findings were turned out to be related to the methods of teaching reading in Indonesia. Due to the findings, these results are then discussed in relation to the Indonesian phonotactics and teaching of reading in Indonesia, which put more emphasize in syllable. Since less research has been conducted in Bahasa Indonesia orthography, this study is a good start to enhance and expand the future literacy research in Bahasa Indonesia.;This paper reports the finding from a study on the phonological awareness skills of 30 Indonesian first grade students.

The smallest units of formation in language, morphemes, can be divided into two categories: bound morphemes and free morphemes. In the vocabulary of the Indonesian language, morphemes can represent gender, both bound morphemes (-wan, -man, -wati) and free morphemes (base words with gender-oriented meanings). Additionally, the use of the phonemes /i/ and /a/ serves as a distinguishing factor representing specific genders. Typically, based on the above exposition, suffixes such as -wan and -man become representations of masculine entities, particularly in terms of professions or designations. Meanwhile, the suffix -wati represents feminine entities. Similarly, the vowel phoneme /a/ is associated with masculinity, while the vowel phoneme /i/ is associated with femininity in specific words."

"Semantic Relations and the Lexicon explores the many paradigmatic semantic relations between words, such as synonymy, antonymy and hyponymy, and their relevance to the mental organization of our vocabularies. Drawing on a century’s research in linguistics, psychology, philosophy, anthropology and computer science, Lynne Murphy proposes a new, pragmatic approach to these relations. Whereas traditional approaches to the lexicon have claimed that paradigmatic relations are part of our lexical knowledge, Dr Murphy argues that they constitute metalinguistic knowledge, which can be derived through
a single relational principle, and may also be stored as part of our conceptual
representation of a word. Part I shows how this approach can account for the properties of lexical relations in ways that traditional approaches cannot, and Part II examines particular relations in detail. This book will serve as an informative handbook for all linguists and cognitive scientists interested in the mental representation of vocabulary."

This research investigates Tip of the Tongue (ToT) experience amongst Indonesian speakers and the influence of phonotactics complexity towards ToT probability, and its implication towards lexical access model. This study applied experimental research design by creating a condition to trigger the occurence of ToT amongst the respondents. The source of data was a group of simple-phonotactics words and a group of complex-phonotactics words selected from low frequency words (F=5) found in IndonesianWaC corpus. The data of this research was all generic recall features and the order of information as mentioned by the respondents during lexical access process. The data was analyzed by applying statistical analysis procedures including frequency of occurence, t test one sample, dan Pearson correlation test.
The findings of this research indicated that (1) generic recall features found in Indonesian ToT include sense relation, definition, and episodic memory features on conceptual level; dan initial segment, middle segment, final segment, number of syllable, and phonological similarity features on lexeme level; (2) phonotactics complexity is one of the factors influencing the probability of ToT; (3) the most frequently occured lexical access model in Indonesian is serial model; and (4) the tendency towards serial model occurs in both phonotactics groups.

Indonesian absorbs a lot of words from Dutch. This study examines phonological changes in loanwords. The study utilized a descriptive research approach, and the information was obtained from a research conducted by Juniar Edgina (2020). The objective of this research is to identify the alterations in the adoption of vocabulary found in the advertisements of the Intisari magazine during the year 1964. The findings of this research are that there are words that experience phonological differences and words that do not share phonological changes in Dutch absorption words in Indonesian. There are phonological adjustments to loan words by the phonological rules of the recipient language, such as adjustments to vowel and consonant phonemes at the beginning, middle, and end of syllables, such as the word fr?nco becoming prangko which is influenced by differences in the phonological systems of Dutch and Indonesian. Dutch borrowed words in Indonesian, which are absorbed intact without any phonological changes, such as dokter, foto, and saldo."

Research on Indonesian terms falls under the category of lexicology. Terms that has always been through improvements from time to time produce new vocabularies from varying concept within a field, one of the examples that is intriguing to be discussed is culinary terms. Many foreign culinary terms are being used by the society. However, the terms have not been studied further. Therefore, this study reveals the process behind the loanwords of culinary terms, namely translation, borrowing, and the combination of translation and borrowing in Indonesian. The purpose of this study is to describe the loanwords of culinary terms in Indonesian. The study on the loanwords of culinary terms in Indonesian is done through qualitative method. To analyse this research, the data source being used are culinary magazines and culinary books. The findings suggest that loanwords on culinary terms in Indonesian are mostly found on terms borrowing. Loanwords of translations are done based on direct translation and invent translation. Meanwhile, loanwords of borrowing is done by spelling and pronounciation adjustment, spelling adjustment without pronounciation adjustment, pronounciation adjustment without spelling adjustment, and without spelling and pronounciation adjustment. The combination of translation and borrowing can only be found in a form of phrase because one term is formed through two processes, which are translation and borrowing."
