"Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk menggambarkan bagaimana mekanisme pertahanan diri yang dilakukan oleh para tokoh dalam novel Unsent Letters karya Elsa Fakhirah Nasution atau biasa dikenal dengan Elcessa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan psikologi sastra. Teori yang digunakan merupakan teori mekanisme pertahanan diri yang disampaikan oleh Sigmund Freud. Mekanisme Pertahanan diri merupakan strategi perlindungan yang dilakukan oleh manusia dalam menghadapi ansietas atau kecemasan. Freud menyampaikan munculnya perasaan ansietas atau kecemasan disebabkan oleh keinginankeinginan yang tidak tercapai atau saling bertentangan sehingga mekanisme pertahanan diri ini dilakukan untuk menghilangkan ansietas atau kecemasan yang dirasa. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya mekanisme pertahanan diri yang dilakukan oleh para tokoh dalam novel Unsent Letters karya Elsa Fakhirah Nasution atau biasa dikenal dengan Elcessa berupa regresi, represi, proyeksi, reaksi formasi, rasionalisasi, agresi dan apatis, pengalihan, fantasi dan stereotip, dan terakhir sublimasi.

This study aims to describe how the defense mechanism is carried out by the characters in the novel Unsent Letters by Elsa Fakhirah Nasution or commonly known as Elcessa. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a study of literature psychology. The theory used is defense mechanisms presented by Sigmund Freud. Defense Mechanisms are protective strategies carried out by humans in dealing with anxiety. Freud conveyed that the emergence of feelings of anxiety is caused by desires that are not achieved or conflict with each other so that this defense mechanism is carried out to eliminate anxiety. The results of this study indicate that there are defense mechanisms carried out by the characters in the novel Unsent Letters by Elsa Fakhirah Nasution or commonly known as Elcessa in the form of regression, repression, projection, reaction formation, rationalization, aggression and apathy, diversion, fantasy and stereotypes, and sublimation."

"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan dan menganalisis teori Carl Jung yaitu arketipe mentor-mentee dalam proses individuasi diantara dua novel yaitu Demian karya Hermann Hesse dan Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe karya Benjamin Alire S enz. Arketipe adalah suatu bentuk dari ketidaksadaran kolektif yang memiliki pengertian bahwa seluruh konsep, ide, dan ingatan itu bersifat universal dan telah diteruskan dari satu generasi ke generasi berikutnya. Satu contoh dari arketipe oleh Jung ini ada didalam hubungan antara seorang mentor dan mentee yang bisa ditemukan di kehidupan sehari-hari kita ataupun didalam platform kreatif seperti film, musik, dan di penelitian ini khususnya dibidang sastra. Dengan menggunakan psikoanalisis oleh Jung, jurnal ini bertujuan untuk mengurai cara kedua novel tersebut menggunakan arketipe mentor sebagai bantuan bagi muridnya untuk mencapai realisasi diri mereka, dan untuk mengetahui signifikansi peran mentor itu sendiri. Jurnal ini menggunakan analisis tekstual untuk membandingkan kedua buku tersebut. Selain itu, penulis menghubungkan konteks novel dengan arketipe untuk melihat pengaruhnya terhadap arketipe mentor mentee.

This research tries to compare and analyze Carl Jung's mentor-mentee archetype in the process of individuation in Hermann Hesse's Demian and Benjamin Alire S enz's Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Archetype is a form of collective unconscious in which it means that every concept, idea, and memory is shared universally and has been passed from one generation to the next. One example of Jung's archetype exists in mentor and mentee's relationship, which can be found in our daily life and in creative platforms such as in film, music, and in this research specifically literature.

By using Jung's psychoanalysis, this journal aims to dissect the way both novels use Mentor Archetype as a succor for the pupil to come to their self-realization, and to figure out the significance of the mentor's role itself. Textual analysis is used for this journal to compare the two books. In addition, the author connects the context of the novel with the archetype to see how it influences the mentor-mentee archetype."
