"The purpose of this experiment is to study the influence of 10% carbomide peroxyde and 0.4% stannous fluoride application on the crystallic of hydroxypatite in tooth enamel, by using x-ray diffraction method. Hydrogen peroxide solution and distilled water are used as control. The materials are applied for X hours in an incubator with 37"C and 100% humidity, for total 192 hours. The crystallite size and the lattice parameters are calculated from x-ray diffraction pattern, and the structure was then refined by Rieiveld analysis. lt can he concluded that carbamide pcroxyde and stannous fluoride do not influence neither the crystallic size of tooth enamel nor the lattice parameters, but they influence the micro strain in crystal. The X-ray diffraction on Ihc facial surface of enamel shows preferred orientation pattern at |002]."

"Pengaruh variasi persen berat Bi di dalam sistem material Sn-Bi dan pemberian tekanan pada material solder SnBi terhadap parameter kisi dan ukuran kristal masing-masing sampel material telah diteliti dalam penelitian ini. Material Sn-Bi yang digunakan memiliki 5 komposisi berbeda dengan variasi persen berat Bi antara 0 %, 10%, 30%. 52% dan 70%. Semua material yang digunakan dipreparasi dengan metode solid solution dengan teknik peleburan. Karakterisasi berupa ukuran kristal serta regangan mikro masing-masing sampel tiap material. Untuk material Sn-Bi, hasil perhitungan menggunakan metode Scherrer yang membentuk suatu paduan dengan satu fasa Sn. Ukuran kristal pada sistem material Sn-Bi berubah seiring dengan bertambahnya persen berat Bi dalam campuran. Untuk material paduan SnBi, pemberian tekanan pada material tersebut memberikan pengaruh pada hasil data XRD tiap-tiap material. Hasil XRD menunjukan penambahan tekanan memberikan pengaruh pada pergeseran puncak difraksi dan pelebaran puncak difraksi. Pelebaran dan pergeseran puncak difraksi itu menunjukan pengaruh pada ukuran dan regangan mikro kristal.

In this research, efffects of weight percent of Bi (Bismuth) variations and various pressure addition on the lattice parameter and crystallite size of Sn-Bi was investigated. Sn-Bi alloys were manufactured using fusion solid solution method with five various composition SnBi. Characterization was used to observe the structural properties, type of phase, crystallite size and microstrain. For material Sn-Bi using Scherrer method, formed an alloy with single phase, Sn. Lattice parameter changed along with the change of Bi concentration. The crystallite size and microstrain would change when the Bi composition increased. For SnBi alloys,the various pressure that was applied to materials could change the XRD pattern. The XRD?s result shown that diffraction?s peaks pattern become broader."

"Human teeth enamel have been irradiated with gamma radiation from Co60 at room temperature and at liquid nitrogen temperature. Paramagnetic centers are formed and have been detected by using electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrometer at room temperature. The main signal is very stable asymmetric singlet, and attributed to h centers in the hydroxyapatite crystals. It is revealed that several factors influence the amplitude of the asymmetric signal. The amplitude and pattern of the asymmetric signal which depend on the orientation of the sample with respect to the magnetic field are analyzed. Based on the properties of the asymmetric signal the difference between the microcrystal arrangement of healthy and diseased teeth are explained."

"Temulawak adalah tanaman unggulan Indonesia yang ekstraknya dapat mempertahankan pH biofilm S. mutans pada pH netral selama 4 jam dan memiliki efe antibakteri. Salah satu faktor risiko karies adalah biofilm Streptococcus pada permukaan gigi, yang dapat menimbulkan penurunan pH lingkungan hingga mencapai pH kritis. Pada pH kritis terjadi demineralisasi permukaan email gigi yang dapat mempengaruhi kekerasan mikro permukaan email gigi.
Tujuan: Membuat model biofilm Streptococcus dual species, serta menganalisis kekerasan mikro permukaan email dengan biofilm Streptococcus dual species setelah paparan ekstrak temulawak.
Metode: Membuat model biofilm dengan cara memaparkan S. sanguinis dan S. mutans (1:1) pada 24 well plate yang telah dilapisi pelikel dari saliva manusia, kemudian pH diukur dalam rentang waktu 1-24 jam. Dengan cara yang sama model biofilm dibuat pada sampel permukaan gigi manusia, kemudian dipaparkan ekstrak temulawak dan diinkubasi selama 4 jam. Kekerasan mikro permukaan email gigi diukur dengan alat Knoop Hardness Tester.
Hasil: Model biofilm Streptococcus dual species dapat mencapai pH kritis pada jam ke-16 dan bertahan sampai jam ke 24. Terdapat perbedaan bermakna (p<0,05) pada selisih angka kekerasan kelompok perlakuan dengan kontrol 24 jam namun tidak terdapat perbedaan bermakna (p>0,05) selisih angka kekerasan kelompok perlakuan dengan kontrol 20 jam.
Kesimpulan: Model biofilm Streptococcus dual species dapat mencapai pH kritis. Ekstrak temulawak tidak dapat mempertahankan kekerasan mikro permukaan email gigi dengan biofilm Streptococcus dual species.

Java Turmeric is one of Indonesia's prominent herbal plants which extract can maintain S. mutans biofilm pH on neutral level for 4 hours and has antibacterial effect. One of caries risk factors is Streptococcus biofilm on tooth surface, which can cause a drop of environment pH until reaching the critical pH. On critical pH, tooth surface will undergo demineralization that affects micro hardness of the tooth.
Purpose: Making Streptococcus dual species biofilm model, and analyzing tooth surface micro hardness after exposure of java turmeric ethanol extract.
Method: Making biofilm model by mixing S. sanguinis and S. mutans (1:1) on a well plate that has been coated with pellicle from human saliva, the pH is then measured between 1-24 hours of incubation. With the same method, biofilm model is made on human tooth surface sample and java turmeric extract is then added and incubated for 4 hours. Tooth surface micro hardness is measured by Knoop Hardness Tester.
Result: Streptococcus dual species biofilm model can reach critical pH on the 14th hour and stayed the same until the 24th hour. There are significant differences (p < 0,05) between control and exposure groups with incubation time of 24 hours but no significant differences between control and exposure groups with incubation time of 20 hours.
Conclusion: Streptococcus dual species biofilm model could reach critical pH. Java turmeric extract could not maintain micro hardness of tooth surface with Streptococcus dual species.

"The aim of this clinical study was to evaluate whether or not an association exists between the presence of enamel craze lines and the prevalence of tooth sensitivity (TS) after in-office bleaching. Subjects that met the inclusion criteria (N = 23) were screened to detect the existence of enamel craze lines. In total, 460 teeth were subjected to bleaching where 49 % of them presented enamel craze lines. After bleaching (15 % hydrogen per oxide), the subject were asked to rate the level of TS by answering a self-administered questionnaire. The majority of subjects (91 %)experienced TS at the first day of bleaching. The TS prevalence decreased gradually to 22 % at second day, to 17 % at third day, and to 9 % at fourth day. After the fourtf day, no subject reported TS. While 15 % of teeth with no craze lines also showed TS. A positive but weak correlation (r = 0.214) was found between the existence of enamel craze lines and TS. In this clinical study, higher incidence of TS was found with the use of 15 % hydrkedogen peroxide bleaching agent compared to the previous studies. Patients who would undergo in-office bleaching informed that tooth sensitivity is a very often side effect but it may disappear within 1 week."

"Udang kering ebi adalah sumber daya alam Indonesia yang mudah diperoleh dengan harga terjangkau dan diketahui mengandung kalsium yang tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh aplikasi larutan ebi air tawar Macrobrachium sp. dengan pH basa dalam meningkatkan remineralisasi enamel gigi melalui peningkatan microhardness. Aplikasi dilakukan selama 5 menit untuk setiap spesimen enamel sebanyak 26 kali dengan tingkat pH 8, 9, 10. Penelitian ini menggunakan uji kekerasan Vickers Microhardness Tester, Scanning Microscope Electron, dan Energy Dispersi X-Ray Spectrometer untuk mengukur retensi ion kalsium pada permukaan enamel gigi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai kekerasan mikrostruktur permukaan enamel tertinggi diperoleh setelah diberikan aplikasi larutan ebi air tawar Macrobrachium sp. dengan pH 10, yaitu sebesar 390 VHN dengan persentase retensi ion kalsium sebesar 15,18 .Kesimpulan: aplikasi larutan ebi air tawar Macrobrachium sp. meningkatkan proses remineralisasi enamel gigi.

Dried shrimp ebi is one of the natural resources available in Indonesia that can be easily attained with affordable price. It is also known to contain high amount of calcium. This research rsquo s objective was to analyze the effect of freshwater ebi solution Macrobrachium sp. application with various alkaline pH level in increasing the remineralization of tooth enamel. Application were done for 5 minutes each, 26 times application, using pH level 8.0 to 10.0 respectively. Result analyze were done using Vickers Microhardness test, Scanning Electron Microscope, and Energy Dispersion X Ray. The result of this research showed the highest value of microhardness in enamel surface microstructure was after being applied by freshwater ebi solution Macrobrachium sp. with a pH level 10.0 and a value of 390 VHN with calcium ion retention percentage of 15.18 .Conclusion application of freshwater dried shrimp solution increase the remineralization process of enamel surface.

"Ebi merupakan udang kering berukuran kecil yang dikonsumsi secara keseluruhan. Ebi diduga memiliki kadar kalsium tinggi dan dapat digunakan sebagai bahan untuk meningkatkan proses remineralisasi enamel gigi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh ebi air laut Metapenaeus sp. dengan berbagai pH basa pada permukaan enamel dengan tujuan remineralisasi, dan analisa hasil menggunakan perubahan permukaan mikrostruktur, tingkat retensi ion kalsium, dan kekerasan mikro permukaan. Pengamatan perubahan permukaan enamel dilakukan dengan larutan ebi 10 dengan tingkat pH 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, dengan durasi 5 menit untuk 26 kali aplikasi. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan retensi ion kalsium, peningkatan kekerasan mikrostruktur dan perbaikan mikro struktur permukaan enamel menurut peningkatan tingkat pH basa. Kesimpulan: Aplikasi larutan ebi air laut Metapenaeus sp. meningkatkan proses remineralisasi enamel gigi.

Ebi is a dried small sized shrimp that consumed as a whole. Ebi assumed to have high calcium level and probably have ability to use as material for increasing remineralization process on tooth enamel. This research aimed to know the effect of sea water ebi Metapenaeus sp. with several alkaline pH level on enamel surface to obtain remineralization, and analyze the result using surface microstructure changes, ion calcium retention level and micro surface hardness. Observation of the enamel surface changes were make upon 10 ebi solution with the pH level 8.0, 9.0, 10.0 respectively, 5 minutes duration for 26 times application. The results showed that there were increase of ion calcium retention, increase of micro surface hardness and enamel surface micro structure restoration according to the increase of alkaline pH level. Conclusion Application of the sea water ebi solution increase the remineraliztation process of enamel surface.

"Daun sirih mengandung komponen utama yaitu polifenol, yang lebih dikenal dengan nama tanin. Tanin berpengaruh terhadap kekerasan permukaan email gigi. Cara aplikasi pada email adalah dengan topikal gel. Pada penelitian ini digunakan 18 spesimen gigi sapi yang ditanam dalam resin akrilik dan dibagi dalam 3 kelompok, gel ekstrak daun sirih 15%, 25% dan 35% selama 1 bulan, 3 bulan dan 6 bulan. Kekerasan email diukur menggunakan alat uji Shimadzu Microhardness Tester HMV-2. Hasil dianalisis dengan menggunakan Repeated ANOVA dan One Way ANOVA. Terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna pada seluruh kelompok perlakuan (p<0.05). Terdapat peningkatan nilai kekerasan email setelah aplikasi gel ekstrak daun sirih 15% selama 6 bulan.

Betel leaf (Piper betle Linn) contains a main component, known as Tannin. Tannin can affect enamel`s hardness. 18 specimens of bovine teeth were embedded in acrylic resin, divided into 3 groups of gel application betel leaf extract 15%, 25% and 35% for 1 month, 3 months and 6 months. Enamel`s hardness measured by Shimadzu Microhardness Tester HSV-2. Statistical analysis was done by Repeated ANOVA and One Way ANOVA. There was significantly increase (p<0.05) of micro hardness number after 6 months gel application with 15% betel leaf extract. Gel with betel leaf extract can significantly affect the enamel`s hardness."

"Larutan kayu manis dapat menjadi obat kumur alternatif, namun kandungan taninnya dapat menyebabkan diskolorasi. Untuk mengetahui pengaruh perendaman dengan larutan kayu manis terhadap perubahan warna email, duabelas gigi premolar direndam dalam larutan kayu manis konsentrasi 4% dan 12,5% (masing-masing n=6) selama 60 menit, 120 menit, dan 180 menit. Terdapat peningkatan perubahan warna seiring lama perendaman dan besarnya konsentrasi. Seluruh sampel menunjukkan perubahan warna yang tidak dapat diterima secara klinis (ΔE>3,5). Uji antar kelompok waktu menunjukkan perubahan bermakna (p<0,05) sedangkan antar konsentrasi perubahannya tidak bermakna (p>0,05). Larutan kayu manis menyebabkan perubahan warna email yang tidak dapat diterima secara klinis.

Cinnamon solution can be used as an alternative mouthwash. However, its tannin can cause discoloration. To identify the effect of cinnamon solution immersion to color change of tooth enamel, twelve premolar teeth were immersed in 4% and 12% cinnamon solution concentration (each n=6) for 60 minutes, 120 minutes, and 180 minutes. There were higher changes at longer time of immersion and bigger concentration. All samples showed clinically unacceptable color changes result (ΔE>3,5). Test between time groups showed significant changes (p<0,05) and no significant changes between concentration groups (p>0,05). Cinnamon solution can cause a clinically unacceptable color changes to tooth enamel.
