"Jalan Menikung is one of the unique literary works. The uniqueness is reflectedin both the cultural background and the elements of culture. This indicates that the authorhas rich experiences in culture. The cultural values in this literary work do not only belongto the ethnic culture in Indonesia, but also to other cultures. Jalan Menikung is influencedby the authors experiences which he absorbed from other cultures, when he made a tour tosome places in the world. The crux of the problem in this literary work is concerned withJavanese people and their culture, which is influenced by modern culture, especially American,Japanese,Chinese, and Minangkabau."

"This study discusses the relationship between indirect speech act and politeness in directive speech act. To get the data, questioners with personal indormastion of respondents and nine directive speech acts which must be assessed by these Indonesian speakers in Jakarta are employed. The analysis shows that there is a positive correlation between the indiirectness of a dierctive speech act and the degree of politeness. The more indirect a directive speech act, the more polite it is. Neverthless, the correlation is not absolute. There are other parameters that determine the degree of politeness such as intonation, choice of words, and cultural values of the speakers."

"This paper examines with a particular affixe (keter-/-an) consisting in two primaryaffixes. Through the analyse of terms coined by the Pusat Bahasa and spontaneousterms, the paper distinguishes between ?double? and ?complex? affixation,corresponding to different operating modes of affixation. The first deals withan already affixed and lexicalized word, then reaffixed and relexicalized. Thesecond, almost only found in documents produced by the Pusat Bahasa, refersto a base getting a first affix in a poorly (or not) lexicalized form, constitutingno more than a morphological stage towards the wished form, which is intentas lexicalized. Complex affix keter-R-an is basically a morphological calque andthe author argues that it has been promoted and used during New Order on anideological basis, as a mean to modernize Indonesian terminology by keepingits shape indigenous rather than by direct borrowing of English terms."

"Teaching Indonesian for Foreign Learners or Indonesian as a Foreign Language (IFL) is different from teaching Indonesian as a first language. The differences are due to the characteristics of the learners. IFL learners generally are adults who have language and cultural background and learning style different from those Indonesian learners have. These differences demand IFL teachers and instructors to prepare teaching-learning materials and the activities of the teaching-learning process in the classroom that are relevant to the learners? needs. Understanding the entry level behavior of the learners, the teaching materials, the teaching-learning approach, and the evalution process is of crucial importance in order to fulfill their needs. Learning needs analysis of IFL learners is also a prerequisite to developing adequate teaching-learning materials of IFL."

"Produksi sastra populer mengikuti selera masyarakat luas. Oleh sebab itu, sastra populer seringkali mengalami perubahan seiring dengan perubahan selera masyarakat. Pada tahun 2009, terbit novel populer yang menggunakan latar tempat kota di luar negeri. Setelah itu, mulai bermunculan novel-novel lain dengan latar tempat luar negeri. Bahkan, lokasi luar negeri bukan hanya muncul sebagai latar, melainkan juga sebagai judul novel. Dengan demikian, permasalahan dalam penelitian ini yaitu bagaimana penggunaan latar luar negeri dalam sastra populer. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan karakteristik tren latar tempat luar negeri dalam novel populer pada periode 2009-2016. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analitik dan pendekatan sosiologi sastra. Objek kajian dalam penelitian ini adalah novel Winter in Tokyo (2008) karya Ilana Tan, Paris: Aline (2013) karya Prisca Primasari, dan Love in Marrakech (2016) karya Irene Dyah.Popular literature production will always follow the direction of publics preference. Therefore, popular literature will always transform along with the shifting of publics preference. On 2009, an Indonesian popular literature with an overseas setting was published. Afterwards, other novels with overseas setting began to emerge. The use of overseas setting became a trend in Indonesian popular literature. Overseas location was not only used as the story setting, but also as title of the novel. This research discusses how overseas setting was used in Indonesian popular literature. The objective of this research is to signify the characteristic of overseas setting trend in Indonesian popular literature for the period of 2009-2016. This research is using sociology of literature approach and descriptive analytics method. The object of study of this research are Winter in Tokyo (2008) a novel by Ilana Tan, Paris: Aline (2013) a novel by Prisca Primasari, and Love in Marrakech (2016) a novel by Irene Dyah."
