Street food is recognized as very important in the urban food supply. However due to the unsanitary conditions associated with most street food vending sites, the consumption of street foods is viewed as a potential health hazard. A cross sectional study was carried out from January to April, 1996 in order to assess the variability in the microbiological quality of different types of street foods in four urbanization areas (Atmajaya, Jl. Kendal, Thamrin and Pasar Jatinegara) of Jakarta. The possible influence of location and other related factors on the microbiological quality of street foods were also investigated. A total of 101 food samples, comprising of 11 food items (meals, meat, vegetable, staple and side dish) a beverage and ice were taken from the four locations and analyzed for Aerobic Plate Count (APC), Total Coliforms and E.coli using the pour plate and the most probable number techniques respectively.
By using Aerobic Plate Counts as an Indicator, it was found that 6% of the overall food items had counts 105. In contrast E.coli was found in a larger number of the food items (25%). The highest bacterial counts were found in Nasi Rames (Rice, Fried Beef, Vegetables and Chili sauce (self made), 50% of the samples contained APC > 105 and 62.5% had E.coli present in them. Ayam and lkan goreng (Fried Chicken and Fried Fish) were comparatively safer food items. None of the samples contained E.coli and APC ranged from 103 to 104.
Comparison between food types (high protein, low protein and meal} in the degree of bacterial contamination, showed significant differences between the meal and the high protein groups in the levels of Total Coliforms and E.coli Contamination (p<0.05). The meal group had higher bacterial counts. Further, foods that were composed of a larger number of ingredients had significantly higher counts of Coliforms than those with a single major ingredient. Statistical significant differences were found between the four urbanization areas in terms of APC counts (p<0.01) and Total Coliforms (p<0.05). These differences were attributable to the availability of basic facilities and sanitary conditions.
The results indicate that handling practices, environmental sanitation and potable water supply are important factors influencing the microbiological quality of street foods."

Kriteria sepsis yang digunakan berdasarkan American College of Chest Physician dan Society of Critical Care Medicine tahun 1992. "ABSTRACT
A study on microbiological quality of street foods in comparison with home-prepared and hotel-restaurant foods was carried out at Hai Ba Trung and Hoan Klein districts in Hanoi, Vietnam from December 1994 to March 1995. Ninety samples of the most common meals were collected, and 35 food handlers were interviewed. The microbiological analyses were carried out according to methods of enumeration of mesophilic aerobic bacteria and enumeration of coliform bacteria at the Microbiological Laboratory of the National Institute of Nutrition (NINVietnam).
Greatest numbers of microbial counts were found in the samples obtained from street source. In Bun cha and Bun nem obtained from street vendors, E.coli was present in 60% of the samples, aerobic plate counts (APCs) were up to 107 and coliform counts ranged from 10 to 10$ per gram of food. On the other hand, "mixed rice" dishes which are served hot had a low bacterial contamination. Microbiological quality of hotel-restaurant foods was superior to the street foods. Comparison between street foods and home-prepared foods demonstrated significant differences in APCs of "mixed rice" dish (which consists of cooked rice, fried egg and vegetable soup with P = 0.020) and Bun cha (P = 0.046). Further analyses on the comparison between "mixed rice" dishes from the same source did not show significant differences in microbial counts. Likewise, there were no significant differences between home prepared and hotel foods. However, there was a tendency that hotel-restaurant dishes had lower microbial counts.
This study has suggested that the importance of using potable water and proper food handling practices were viewed as essential. Given that street foods are consumed by the main-stream working people in Hanoi, there are urgent needs to improve the microbiological quality of street foods. Actions should be taken to introduce the knowledge on food hygiene priority to street vendors and their customers. More research is necessary to identify the causes of the problem using HACCP (Hazards Analysis and Critical Control Points). "

Open green space area is a strategy to reduce the negative impact of urbanization, especially in industrial areas. PT JIEP, one of industrial area in Jakarta, have an urban forest that can be used as a buffer for the industrial area. The area which has been polluted will affect organisms in that location, one of that is bryophytes. The bryophytes can be used as bioindicators because of their sensitivity to environmental changes. The bryophytes which can grow in industrial areas indicate that they can improve the mechanisms of adaptation in that environment. The aim of this study is to determine the species and characteristics of bryophytes that grow in the PT JIEP urban forest. The bryophytes were collected from 8 plots that belong to 2 blocks located in PT JIEP urban forest with a purposive sampling method. There are 3 families, 6 genera, and 11 species of bryophytes that were collected in the PT JIEP urban forest which is found in the tree bark and rock substrates. All samples belong to the division of Bryophyta or mosses. Pottiaceae is a family that has various species in the sampling site. Meanwhile, one of the members of Pottiaceae, Hyophila involuta is a species that has the largest percentage of cover in the PT JIEP urban forest. Growth forms, life forms, the presence of asexual reproductive organs, and special structures such as hyaline cells and papillae are characteristics that have been developed by bryophytes to adapt to industrial environments"

ABSTRACT
Microbial indoor air quality in hospital has to be considered, especially in the examining and waiting room because many people gathered at the same time. Hence, chances for spreading airborne disease by pathogenic bacteria and fungi are high. The objectives of this study are to find out indoor air bacteria and fungi concentrations at the examining room, the difference of bacteria and fungi concentrations during high and low numbers of visitors, and types of bacteria based on gram staining. Microbial air samples were taken in Duplo by using EMS E6 with TSA (Oxoid, 2011) and MEA (Oxoid, 2011) media for bacteria and fungi, respectively. Samplings were conducted on different examining rooms and days, which Monday and Saturday represented as low and high numbers of visitors, respectively. The sampling results tested statistically by using non-parametric statistical method, Pearson product moment and two-tailed t test. The measurement results showed that indoor air bacteria and fungi concentrations have exceeded the quality standards by Menteri Kesehatan RI No. 1204 in 2004, with the average are 2.545 ± 9.11 CFU/m3 and 306 ± 2.91 CFU/m3 for bacteria and fungi, respectively. The highest concentration of bacteria and fungi is found in examining room for children and general, respectively. Pearson product moment test showed a low correlation (r=0.29) between number of visitors and indoor air bacteria concentration and moderate correlation (r=0.45) between number of visitors and indoor air fungi concentrations. Furthermore, two-tailed t-test results showed that there was no significant relationship between number of visitor and indoor air microbial concentrations. Identification of bacteria with gram staining showed that 84.2% of bacteria found are gram-negative and 15.8% are gram-positive bacteria. The gram-negative bacteria are having greater possibly infected human than gram-positive bacteria because it has endotoxin. Therefore, it is necessary to install HEPA or ULPA filters on ventilation system (air conditioned) and maintain relative humidity between 30-60% and temperature below 25oC in the hospital to reduce indoor air bacteria and fungi concentrations"

ABSTRACT
Water has potential contamination affected by the conditions of distribution tools and water storage containers. The quality of drinking water relate to human health. Waterborne disease is a disease that can be spread by water from other organisms and may cause nausea, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea (Washtenaw Country Departement of Public Health, 2012). The purpose of this study was to determine the microbiological quality of water in public hydrants, distributed by jerrycans, and containers at homes in Penjaringan, North Jakarta also determine the relationship between citizen diarrheal disease with the quality of the water. The method for testing fecal coliform of the samples is by Multiple Tube Fermentation (MTF). The test results compared with the Regulation of Minister Health of Republic Indonesia No. 492/Menkes/PER/IV/2010 in the amount of 0 MPN/100mL of fecal coliform. The test results showed that there is one water sample in public hydrant, one water sample in jerrycan, 60% water sample at houses in Penjaringan and 41.67% water sample at houses in Kamal Muara that has a value of fecal coliform exceeded the water quality standard. Correlation between the percentage of people that has diarrhea with percentage of water samples at homes exceeded quality standard is negative (r = -1). That?s why, it?s needed to manage the water container and add chlorine to reduce the contamination."
