Carl, Timo
"Timo Carl presents alternatives to curtain wall facades and other flat boundaries creating autonomous spaces. He investigates facade typologies with multiple material layers to strategize the relationship between buildings and their environment. By revisiting Le Corbusier´s seminal brise soleil an alternative reading of the modern project emerges: one that is not based on classical compositional rules, but instead on the dynamic relationships with environmental forces. Finally, an exciting series of project-based investigations sets out innovative ways in which novel deep skins combine energy-conscious performance with the poetics of architecture."

"Physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling is becoming increasingly important in human health risk assessments and in supporting pharmacodynamic modeling for toxic responses. Organized by classes of compounds and modeling purposes so users can quickly access information, this is the first comprehensive reference of its kind.
This book presents an overview of the underlying principles of PBPK model development. Then it provides a compendium of PBPK modeling information, including historical development, specific modeling challenges, and current practices for, halogenated alkanes, alkene and aromatic compounds, reactive vapors in the nasal cavity, alkanes, oxyhydrocarbons, and related compounds, pesticides and persistent organic pollutants, dioxin and related compounds, metals and inorganic compounds, drugs, antineoplastic agents, perinatal transfer, mixtures, dermal exposure models."

"This book is an outcome of the International Workshop on Business System Management and Engineering (BSME 2010), held in Malaga, Spain, in June/July 2010, in conjunction with the TOOLS 2010 federated conferences and under the aegis of the EU Network of Excellence on Service Software and Systems (S-Cube). The goal of the workshop was to bring together experts in the fields of business process management, service-oriented architectures, and service security to discuss the current state of research and identify new issues, challenges, and research directions."

"This book focuses on scheduling algorithms for parallel applications on heterogeneous distributed systems, and addresses key scheduling requirements – high performance, low energy consumption, real time, and high reliability – from the perspectives of both theory and engineering practice. Further, it examines two typical application cases in automotive cyber-physical systems and cloud systems in detail, and discusses scheduling challenges in connection with resource costs, reliability and low energy.
The book offers a comprehensive and systematic treatment of high-performance, low energy consumption, and high reliability issues on heterogeneous distributed systems, making it a particularly valuable resource for researchers, engineers and graduate students in the fields of computer science and engineering, information science and engineering, and automotive engineering, etc. The wealth of motivational examples with figures and tables make it easy to understand. "This volume conveniently brings together updated versions of 30 articles that originally appeared in SIAM News from 1990 to 1995. The objective of the column from which the articles are taken is to present applications that have been successfully treated on advanced architecture computers. Astfalk edits this popular series of articles in SIAM's flagship publication, SIAM News. Algorithmic issues addressed are those which have found general use in building parallel codes for solving problems. In addition to updates that reflect advances and changes in the field of applications on advanced architecture computers, Astfalk has added an index and introductory comments to each article, making this book cohesive and interesting to practitioners and researchers alike.
Although some of the computers used in older articles are no longer available and some of the languages are rarely used, what is valuable in these articles is the diversity of areas to which advanced computing can be applied. Perhaps more valuable than the diversity are the successful methods used to achieve parallelism. This may be used by others for similar applications. The applications and technology discussed cover many disciplines, with significant overlap. Articles deal with molecular dynamics, optimization/math programming, finance/economics, geometry, and partial differential equations."

As technology advances, the government is currently confronted with a disruptive transition. One of the solutions that the government can use to embrace and incorporate the advent of technology is digital transformation. This study aims to acknowledge one of the enterprise architectures approaches in the government. Specifically, examines whether the Pace- Layered architecture can help public service encounter digital transformation which requires applications to change and built-in fast-paced. This research started with the overview of Enterprise Architecture (EA) and Pace-Layered literature, which was then correlated with the actual government case. The results showed that the impact and advantages of Pace- Layered could be beneficial to the government as it will increase and enhance its current Information Technology (IT) strategy. This foundation will maximize the value creation and room for innovation for public service to face the digital transformation."
