Background: Dental threatening or needs immediate treatment to control bleeding, infection, or pain, during COVID-19 pandemic to minimize the transmission risk of COVID-19 infection in dental setting. The children in 3-6-year age group are frequently experienced from dental trauma or pain due to dental caries that needs immediate treatment. Thus, an education in pediatric dental emergency during this pandemic is necessary to reduce the morbidity rate in children, especially for parents. An online education using visual aid, that is currently applied in most schools in Indonesia, can be useful to improve the parent’s knowledge in pediatric dental emergency. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of online visual education about pediatric dental emergency during COVID-19 pandemic to improve the parents’ knowledge, who have children in kindergarten. Method: This study was an experimental study that was comparing parent’s knowledge before and after online visual education using online questionnaires. The visual aid was a 2-minute-animated video with written narration. Results: A total of fourty five parents who have children in kindergarten located in Setiabudi district, South Jakarta. Parent’s knowledge in pediatric dental emergency increased significantly after the visual education (Wilcoxon test, p<0.05), and was not influenced by the differences in parents’ educational level, ages, and occupation (Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis test, p>0,05). Conclusion: Online visual education is effective to improve the parents’ knowledge in pediatric dental emergency."

"Developmental Defects of Enamel (DDE) pose a significant dental problem for children and adolescents. Affected teeth are discolored, often sensitive and prone to fracture or wear easily, increasing the risk of dental caries. Furthermore, they are often very difficult to restore because conventional dental materials do not bond effectively to the defective enamel. Clinically, affected individuals have heightened levels of dental anxiety making management challenging and stressful for the child, parent and clinician alike. This book discusses the epidemiology and etiology of DDE, including defects of both primary and permanent teeth, associated syndromes, Molar Incisor Hypomineralization and more generalized genetic defects. The structure and mechanical properties of affected enamel are discussed particularly in relation to clinical behavior. The signs and symptoms that allow accurate diagnosis are outlined and management protocols described. The clinical chapters are well illustrated, providing clear, evidence based guidelines where appropriate. Importantly the impact of living with DDE is explored from the young person?s perspective. These insights challenge the dental profession to seek improved understanding of the condition and to develop new management strategies. Avenues for future research are identified that may help the profession rise to this challenge and to better meet the needs and expectations of future generations of children and adolescents."

Backgrounds: Dental fear and anxiety (DFA), especially in intraoral injection, are common problems in children and are associated with traumatic experiences; thus, they may act as a barrier for children to access dental treatment. The efficacy of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in alleviating dental fear and anxiety on intraoral injections has been studied previously. The CBT principle consists of psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring, exposure and relaxation techniques, which can be delivered using a self-help module to reduce chair time. Aims: To analyze the differences in dental fear and anxiety on intraoral injections before and after intervention with CBT principles as a self-help mobile application for children aged 8-12. Methods: A clinical experimental study was performed with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The dental fear and anxiety levels in intraoral injection were measured in subjects who attended FKG UI Dental Hospital during their first visit (pre-test) and met the inclusion subject criteria for the current study. Afterwards, the self-help CBT mobile application “Siap ke Dokter Gigi” was given to the participants. The final measurement of dental fear and anxiety levels were determined after the intraoral injection in the subsequent visit (post-test). Results: Dental fear and anxiety levels of intraoral injection decreased significantly after the intervention using the self-help CBT mobile application “Siap ke Dokter Gigi” (Wilcoxon Test, p < 0,05) in child patients aged 8-12. Conclusion: The self-help CBT mobile application “Siap ke Dokter Gigi” could potentially reduce dental fear and anxiety in children aged 8-12 who were worried about getting intraoral injections during their dental visits."
