"This volume brings together studies that explore the richness of the Arabic literary tradition and of Islamic intellectual life, from the beginnings of Islam to the present. The contributors cover an unusually wide range of subjects, including such topics as guile in the Quran, marriage in Islamic law, early esoterica, commentaries on al Hariris Maqamat, Hellenistic philosophy in Arabic, medieval music and song, scurrilous poetry, Arabic rhetoric, cursing, the modern social and legal history of the Middle East, al Kharrats modernist project, and contemporary Islamic thought and responses to it.
The volumes range reflects the enormous breadth of Everett Rowsons scholarship and his impact over a lifetime of publishing, editing, teaching, and mentoring in the many fields that constitute the Arabic humanities and Islamic thought. "

Morocco as one of many Arabic countries that will be interesting to discuss about the development of its literature because it uses four different languages in a narrative of daily life, coupled with the existence of the world other than a famous traveler, Marco Polo who come from these countries, namely Ibn Battuta. He was born from a family of renowned judge in his day, though born with that background, he simply did not follow his destiny, he prefers to be a Muslim who likes to travel to see new places in the world and take lessons from his travels. The results of his trip, he pours into a narrative titled 'Rihla' written by a young poet named Ibn Juzayy. His monumental work has been worldwide and translated into many languages, one of them is Indonesian. "Islamic intellectual thought is at the center of this collection of articles honoring Dimitri Gutas by friends, colleagues, and former students. The essays cover three main areas: the classical heritage and Islamic culture; classical Arabic science and philosophy; and Muslim traditional sciences. They show the interconnectedness between the Islamic intellectual tradition and its historical predecessors of Greek and Persian provenance, ranging from poetry to science and philosophy. Yet, at the same time, the authors demonstrate the independence of Muslim scholarship and the rich inner-Muslim debates that brought forth a flourishing scholastic culture in the sciences, philosophy, literature, and religious sciences. This collection also reflects the breadth of contemporary research on the intellectual traditions of Islamic civilization. "
