"ABSTRAK
Stand-up comedy tengah menjadi fenomena baru di industri hiburan tanah air.

The rise of populism and the refugee crisis has exposed the European Union (EU) to potential threats and challenges in defending the basic principles of democracy and human rights. On the other hand, the EU have to ensure the security and absorb the aspirations of its citizens, especially in the midst of the populist nativism pressure to reject refugees who are considered detrimental to European society. These conditions lead this research to validate the EU's strategy in overcoming the potential threats of the rise of populism and the refugee crisis to the conditions of democracy and security in Europe. Answering this problem, this study uses Populism Theory, Threat Perception Theory, and Strategy Theory as indicators in analyzing various literature studies, European Union policies, and political statements by European leaders related to refugee issues and the rise of populism in the period 2014-2019. After analyzing the potential threat of populism and formulating an EU strategy based on Five P's Mintzberg's Strategy, which consists of the Plans, Patterns, Positions, Perspectives, and Ploys indicators, the findings of this study explain that the EU's main strategy is to balance power and provide populist political space in a measurable way. Through this strategy, populist groups seem to be accommodated by their political agenda and become part of power, but in reality they are not. Through this strategy, the EU is considered successful in managing populist pressure and overcoming the refugee problem without ignoring democratic values and human rights. This study concludes that populism will always be a potential threat and challenge for the EU by raising various strategic issues at different scales, so that the EU's strategy to adapt to the development of the global situation will be very necessary. Furthermore, this research is expected to be a reference for further research to examine the development of the populism movement in the national, regional, and global spheres."

"This study discusses the emergence of Islamic populism in Palembang in the 1950s. In the official narratives of Indonesian history, the political turbulence in Palembang that occurred in the mid-1950s is often associated with a regional Army commander-led rebellion. This research instead finds that Islamic groups played a crucial role in developing the preliminary conditions before the military group took the initiative to pull the trigger. Islamic groups, through their network of ulama, tried to unite all groups opposed to Jakarta’s leadership and communism to incorporate under one umbrella of political identity: Islam. We determine that the emergence of Islamic populism in Palembang was caused by multiple grievances: economic decline, redistribution of welfare to the region, the exclusion of Islamic groups, and the fear of communism. However, Islamic populism only succeeded in uniting factions in the Islamic community but failed to reach other groups because of the social cleavages from previous feuds."

"In a novel approach to the field of Islamic politics, this provocative new study compares the evolution of Islamic populism in Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, to the Middle East. Utilising approaches from historical sociology and political economy, Vedi R. Hadiz argues that competing strands of Islamic politics can be understood as the product of contemporary struggles over power, material resources and the result of conflict across a variety of social and historical contexts. Drawing from detailed case studies across the Middle East and Southeast Asia, the book engages with broader theoretical questions about political change in the context of socio-economic transformations and presents an innovative, comparative framework to shed new light on the diverse trajectories of Islamic politics in the modern world."

"The Web plays an increasingly important role in the communication strategies of political parties and movements, which increasingly utilize it for promoting ideas and ideologies as well as mobilization and campaigning strategies. This book explores the role of the Web for right-wing populist political parties and movements across Europe. Analyzing these groups' discourses and practices of online communication, it shows how social media is used to spread ideas and mobilize supporters whilst also excluding constructed 'others' such as migrants, Muslims, women or LGBT persons. Expert contributors provide evidence of a shift in the strategies of mainstream parties as they also engage in 'Internet populism' and suggest ways that progressive movements can and do respond to counter these developments. Topics are explored using a cross-country analysis which does not neglect the particularities of the national contexts. This work will appeal to researchers and students working in the fields of media and communication studies, political theory, policy analysis, studies of populism, racism and nationalism, gender, LGBT, migration, Islam and welfare."--Provided by publisher."
