"ABSTRAKSalah satu mitos paling terkenal di Amerika adalah mitos American Adam. Fakta bahwa mitos American Adam digunakan dalam berbagai macam produk budaya, seperti buku, film, dan lagu-lagu tidak bisa lagi disangkal kebenarannya. Tulisan ini akan membahas representasi dari mitos American Adam yang digambarkan dalam film The Dreamers 2004 karya sutradara asal Italia Bernardo Bertulloci. Dengan menyesuaikan fase mitos American Adam yang dikemukakan oleh R.W. B. Lewis 1955 , tulisan ini akan mengikuti jejak mitos American Adam melalui perkembangan psikologis sang pemeran utama, Matthew. Selain itu, representasi dari American Adam dalam The Dreamers 2004 telah membawa perspektif yang berbeda terhadap Amerika melalui lensa perfilman Eropa, khususnya produksi perfilman Italia.

ABSTRACTOne of the distinguished myths of America is the American Adam. The fact that the American Adam is applied within several contemporary cultural products, such as books, films, and songs are cannot be denied. This study will discuss the representation of the American Adam that is depicted in the film The Dreamers 2004 by an Italian director, Bernardo Bertulloci. By adjusting the phases of the American Adam from R. W. B. Lewis 1955 , this research will trace the track of the American Adam through Matthew rsquo s psychological development, as the main character in this film. Moreover, the representation of the American Adam in The Dreamers 2004 has brought a different perspective towards America through the lens of European cinema, specifically Italian cinema production. "

Melalui film-film produksinya, Hollywood mampu menjejalkan penggambaran yang kerap kali keliru mengenai bangsa atau ras tertentu kepada masyarakat umum demi memelihara kepentingan Amerika Serikat. Menggunakan metode analisis diskursus, penelitian ini berusaha membongkar penggambaran keliru yang terdapat dalam lima film produksi Hollywood. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa representasi di dalam kelima film dan hegemoni membentuk sebuah siklus atau lingkaran. Penelitian ini merupakan sebuah upaya dekonstruksi dari sebuah konstruksi (kelima film) yang merugikan.

ABSTRACTn addition to bring a range of benefits in all sectors, globalization also has a role in upholding western hegemony over the others. Through their films production, Hollywood is able to cram the delineation about nation or a particular race to the public which is often mischaracterized in order to preserve the interests of the United States. Using the method of discourse analysis, this research tried to dismantle misrepresentations that contained in five Hollywood films. The result of this research indicated that the representations in five films and hegemony form a cycle or circle. This study is an effort of deconstruction of a adverse construction (of five movies)."

"ABSTRAKSkripsi ini menganalisis apresiasi netizen terhadap film Spijt! dan Pijnstillers darinovel karya Carry Slee. Delapan resensi menjadi korpus dimuat dalam mediaelektronik khusus film dan umum Belanda. Penilaian Boonstra (1979) dan DeMoor (2003) dipadukan untuk memperlihatkan aspek penilaian yang palingdisorot oleh peresensi. Penilaian yang mendominasi di kedua jenis media adalahpenilaian objektif. Dalam media umum, pencermatan terhadap penokohanmenjadi sorotan sedangkan media khusus film tidak memusatkan penilaian atasaspek tertentu yang menjadi bagian komposisi film.

ABSTRACTThis thesis analyzes the appreciation that is given by netizen towards Spijt! andPijnstillers which are the result of adaptation in Carry Slee?s novels. Eight reviewsare published in special electronic media for films and general media in theNetherlands. Boonstra?s (1979) and De Moor?s arguments (2003) are combined toshow the most highlighted aspect of the judgement. It is found that the objectiveassessment dominate both media. Reviews in the general media put more focus oncharacterization while reviews in exclusive films media are not focusing on anyparticular aspect.;"

"Max Havelaar: of de koffieveilingen der Nederlandsche handelsmaatschappij (1976) merupakan film hasil karya sutradara asal Belanda, Fons Rademakers, sekaligus film hasil adaptasi novel karya Multatuli dengan judul serupa yang terbit pada tahun 1860. Pada awalnya peluncuran film ini sempat menimbulkan kontroversi dari kalangan masyarakat Indonesia karena kesan yang muncul saat menonton bukanlah seperti menonton film anti-kolonialisme, melainkan sekadar kisah tentang seorang pejabat pemerintah Belanda yang baik dan konfliknya dengan Belanda. Seakan-akan hanya memperlihatkan orang Belanda yang digambarkan sebagai orang baik dan orang Indonesia sebagai penjahat. Kontroversi ini menimbulkan permasalahan bagaimana sebenarnya kolonialisme serta rasisme direpresentasikan pada film Max Havelaar. Penelitian ini ditujukan agar dapat mengetahui adanya nilai-nilai rasisme dalam film Max Havelaar yang merepresentasikan budaya kolonialisme pada masa Hindia Belanda. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan teknik dokumentasi-observasi, dengan teori semiotika oleh Roland Barthes untuk menganalisis pemaknaan tanda rasisme melalui sistem pemaknaan denotatif (denotation), konotatif (connotation) dan meta-bahasa (metalanguage) atau mitos. Hasil dari penelitian ini berupa tiga fakta rasisme dalam film Max Havelaar yaitu; (1) perbudakan serta eksploitasi terhadap bangsa pribumi, (2) prasangka buruk antar bangsa Belanda dan pribumi, dan (3) diskriminasi terhadap bangsa pribumi.

"Max Havelaar: of de koffieveilingen der Nederlandsche handelsmaatschappij" (1976) is a film by Dutch director, Fons Rademakers, as well as a film adaptation of Multatuli's novel with the same title which was published in 1860. At first the release of this film caused controversy among Indonesian people because the impression that emerged when watching it was not like watching an anti-colonialism film, but simply a story about a good Dutch government official and his conflict with the Dutch. It's as if it only shows Dutch people as good people and Indonesians as criminals. This controversy raises the problem of how colonialism and racism are actually represented in Max Havelaar film. This research is aimed at finding out the existence of racist values in the Max Havelaar film which represents the culture of colonialism during the Dutch East Indies. The research method used is qualitative with documentation-observation techniques, with semiotic theory by Roland Barthes to analyze the meaning of signs of racism through denotative, connotative and metalanguage or myth systems. The results of this research are three facts about racism in the Max Havelaar film, namely; (1) slavery and exploitation of native peoples, (2) prejudice between Dutch and native peoples, and (3) discrimination against native peoples."

"Dalam era globalisasi ini, identitas menjadi sesuatu yang penting. West Is West 2010 oleh Ayub Khan-Din sebagai corpus penelitian ini menawarkan cara unik dalam merepresentasikan isu identitas dalam film ini. Dengan memusatkan penelitian pada karakter Sajid sebagai remaja Inggris-Pakistan yang selalu merasa tidak cocok dengan budaya Pakistan datang ke negara itu untuk pertama kalinya, studi ini pertama membahas konsep Positioning dan Being Positioned serta Being and Becoming oleh Stuart Hall dalam teori Identitas Budaya yang dikaitkan dengan film.Dengan menganalisa elemen film seperti dialog, adegan, dan kostum, disimpulkan bahwa karakter mengalami perubahan identitas. Tulisan ini menunjukkan bahwa West Is West memperlihatkan identitas budaya sebagai sebuah proses berkelanjutan dari relasi satu budaya dengan budaya lainnya.

In this globalization era, identity becomes something important. West is West 2010 by Ayub Khan Din as the corpus of this study offers unique ways in representing the issue of identity in this movie. By focusing on the character of Sajid as a British Pakistani boy who is unaccustomed to Pakistani culture comes to the county for the first time, this study first discusses the concepts 'Positioning and Being Positioned' as well as 'Being and Becoming' by Stuart Hall in relation to the issue of cultural identity in the movie.By analyzing the elements of movie, such as dialogue, scene, and costume, this article concludes that the character experiences changes in identity. It shows that West is West exemplifies cultural identity as an ongoing process of the relation between one culture and other cultures."
