"This article presents some of the feminist perspectives written by Rosemarie Tong (1989). Each of these perspectives has its own basic assumption in analyzing women's issue. Based on their analysis of causes and consequences of women's backwardness, it prescribes strategies for women's progress. However, each of these perspectives only give a partial and provisional answer to women's issues providing a unique perspective with its own methodological strengths and weakness."

The architecture of stilt house - as the form of traditional house - in pacific region shows some basic similarities. House constructions that consist of bottom structure-primary structure - top structure are in accordance with cosmic classification, i.e. lower world - human world - upper world. In this comparative study, the author tries to show that stilt-house basically is the development of granary architecture. In many societies granary is a sacred place where occasional rituals are undertaken. The couch underneath the granary is often used for activities even for living places. The author argues that formerly people lived in granary and then changed to be stilt-house. Using some examples from various ethnic groups in the Philippines, Japan, New Zealand and Indonesia he explains that the attic id a place for gods and sacred things."

"The assumption that theater functions as a document of the community falls under question. Such an assumption emerges, for example, from the ideas of Paul Ricoeur on theories of the text, which takes textual discourse as an inscription of oral discourse. Social reality is seen as oral discourse, allowing for the view that the narrative aspect of theater presents its textual discourse. The classic study of the ludruk theater by James Peacock demonstrates haw the ludruk holds within it the anxieties of members of the ludruk community in East Java over modernization. In Ricoeur's terms, such anxieties are inscribed in ludruk performances. Holding to the assumption of theater as document, one would expect to see performances related to the reformation movement of the present. However, the 'Gaya Baru' Lenong Theater, performed by the 'Sarkim' group at a wedding occasion on March 20, 1999 in the village of Jelabong, East Buaran, Serpong, displays no significant inclinations toward the reformation. During the performance that ran until 3.45 in the early morning, the author recorded only three pertinent words from the panjak's jokes: krisis, sembako and PHK. This leads to following question: should the assumption of the role of traditional theater in documenting the community be revised; or does the community see no importance in there formation that is occurring at the national level?"

"A medical system whether traditional or modern, is a long chain of processes of humanstrategy for adapting to their ecological bio-cultural environment. Naturally humans developtheir biological ability to sustain their kind and develop many adaptation strategies, creatingmedical systems, behavior, and belief sbased on culture as a natural response to the treat ofillness and disease, even though the result of certain behavior does not guarantee the healingof such illness and disease (Dunn in Foster-Anderson, 1986; p.41). under that circumstances,Minangkabau medical systems are seen as a result of a bio-eco-culturally adapting process.Local Etiology of the disease source is closely related to the logic of its healing. Cosmologicalviews influence public knowledge about the concepts of health, illness, disease, and healingmethods. The definition of health and illness is determined by culture, custom, or traditionand it is not always in agreement with the conditions defined by medical science."
