"Palnt conservation efforts aim to ensure the continuing exitence of valued plant species. An example of the benefits of such activity is the Cibulan tourist attraction in Kuningan Regency wich indirectly contributes to plant conservation by preserving a sacred location with traditional mythic associations. At this site, there are eleven well-established, large-diameter trees (dbh>50cm) belonging to the following five species: 'ambit' or 'anyang-anyang' (Elaeocarpus grandiflorus Sm.); 'cempaka putih' 9michelia X alba DC.); 'lame' (Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br.); 'gayam' (Inocarpus fagifer (Parkinson) Fosberg); and 'bunut' (Ficus virens aiton). The tourist attractions at Cibulan with its huge trees represents a large carbon storage reserve; for example, the five 'ambit' trees growing there ranged from 4.77 to 17.38 tons of sequestered C per tree. This demonstrates the importance of this tourist attraction not just for its cultural and recreational value, but also as a location for conserving valuable tree species with the additional benefit of removing large amounts of carbon dioxide from atmosphere that would otherwise be contributing to global-warming."

As a member of the International Association of Botanic Gardens (IABG), Indonesian Botanic Gardens (IBG) has responsibilites to conduct plant conservation efforts and research in Indonesia. In fact, four botanic gardens managed by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences were only able to conserve approximately 21.5% of the Indonesian threatened plants. Therefore, it has been important to develop local/regional botanic gardens (L/RBG) throughout Indonesia in order to conserve the plant diversity. This paper aims to review and highlight the L/RBG achievements in plants conservation and to establish management strategy of plants collection in each region, especially in achieving the Target 8 of the GSPC. At the end of 2012, IBG and L/ RBG has collected and managed 24% of the Indonesian threatened plants and succesfully cultivated 25% of the Indonesian threatened plants (including in the nursery collections). Some strategies developed for the L/RBG plants collection development include: strengthening collection management and data base; developing and enriching plants collection in each L/RBG with reference to the IUCN Red List and local flagship species; and setting the priority species for conservation policy and actions. "Pusat Konservasi Tumbuhan Kebun Raya Bogor - Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (PKT KRB ?

"ABSTRACT
Whale Shark (Rhincodon typus) is one of the marine fishes that commonly make transnational migration. Whale sharks that were tagged in Australia were known to do a migration pattern crossing the state of East Timor and the Indonesia especially to the F [ores Sea. According to red list IUCN, a world conservation organisation, the whale shark is categorized as Vulnerable and put in Appendix II CITES. While in CMS (Conservation of Migratory Species), this species is classified in Appendix I (Reserved). Several countries in the world such as Australia, Honduras, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Mexico, Taiwan, the Maldives, southern Africa and Indonesia have determined the conservation status of these fish as fully protected. This paper describes some aspects of eco biology, utilization and management of these fish in several countries as well as the review on the conservation and management of whale sharks in Indonesia."
