"This volume conveniently brings together updated versions of 30 articles that originally appeared in SIAM News from 1990 to 1995. The objective of the column from which the articles are taken is to present applications that have been successfully treated on advanced architecture computers. Astfalk edits this popular series of articles in SIAM's flagship publication, SIAM News. Algorithmic issues addressed are those which have found general use in building parallel codes for solving problems. In addition to updates that reflect advances and changes in the field of applications on advanced architecture computers, Astfalk has added an index and introductory comments to each article, making this book cohesive and interesting to practitioners and researchers alike.
Although some of the computers used in older articles are no longer available and some of the languages are rarely used, what is valuable in these articles is the diversity of areas to which advanced computing can be applied. Perhaps more valuable than the diversity are the successful methods used to achieve parallelism. This may be used by others for similar applications. The applications and technology discussed cover many disciplines, with significant overlap. Articles deal with molecular dynamics, optimization/math programming, finance/economics, geometry, and partial differential equations."

"This book covers two main topics: First, novel fast and flexible simulation techniques for modern heterogeneous NoC-based multi-core architectures. These are implemented in the full-system simulator called InvadeSIM and designed to study the dynamic behavior of hundreds of parallel application programs running on such architectures while competing for resources. Second, a novel actor-oriented programming library called ActorX10, which allows to formally model parallel streaming applications by actor graphs and to analyze predictable execution behavior as part of so-called hybrid mapping approaches, which are used to guarantee real-time requirements of such applications at design time independent from dynamic workloads by a combination of static analysis and dynamic embedding."

To promote tourism in Surakarta, the Surakarta City Government launched the Solo Destination application to facilitate tourists in exploring the city. However, usability issues have been identified within the Solo Destination application. This study aims to understand the problems faced by users, propose alternative interface designs, and enhance the user experience of the Solo Destination application. The alternative interface design was created using a user-centered design (UCD) approach, which consists of four stages: understanding the context of system use by users, determining user needs, generating design solutions that meet user needs, and evaluating these design solutions against user requirements. The interface and usability of the Solo Destination application were evaluated using usability testing, heuristic evaluation, and the System Usability Scale (SUS). Through an online questionnaire completed by 81 respondents, the Solo Destination application received a final SUS score of 53.7. The results identified five categories of issues: incomplete information, system constraints, design consistency, suboptimal categorization, and limited functionality of existing features. The alternative interface design developed in this study achieved a success rate of 99.375% after evaluation using usability testing with 10 participants. "
