"Makalah ini berfokus pada representasi gender dalam iklan, terutama iklan cetak. Secara khusus, cara pria dan wanita yang digambarkan dalam tiga dari beberapa edisi "Do the Don'ts" iklan Juicy Couture yang diluncurkan pada tahun 2009 dianalisis dalam makalah ini. Bagaimana iklan tersebut menampilkan pria dan wanita untuk menciptakan makna tertentu yang terkait dengan laki-laki dan perempuan dieksplorasi dan diteliti dalam penelitian ini. Penggambaran model, slogan, dan warna digunakan untuk mewakili penggambaran iklan tersebut untuk mencari dan mengetahui pesan tersembunyi yang dibawah oleh iklan untuk mendekonstruksi stereotip gender yang ada dalam masyarakat. Iklan-iklan tersebut mengungkapkan bahwa stereotip gender tidak kaku. Makalah ini menyimpulkan bahwa edisi "Do the Don'ts" iklan Juicy Couture tampaknya menampilkan atau menekankan bahwa saat ini stereotip gender untuk laki-laki dan dan perempuan bahkan dapat saling dipertukarkan.
This paper focuses on gender representations in advertisements, particularly in printed ads. Specifically, the way male and female are portrayed in three of some “Do the Don’ts” edition of Juicy Couture ads, which were launched in 2009, are analyzed in this paper. How these ads represent male and female to create particular meanings associated with men and women are explored and examined in this study. The portrayal of the models, taglines, and colors are used to examine the depictions of these ads to find out the hidden messages brought by the ads. By using Goffman’s theory of gender advertisements, I found out that the messages brought by the ads deconstruct gender-stereotypes that exist in society. They reveal that gender-stereotypes are not rigid. This paper concludes that “Do the Don’ts” edition of Juicy Couture ads seem to show or emphasize that now gender stereotypes for men and women are even interchangeable."
