"The most complex fields are often the most challenging to teach; thankfully, Principles and Management of Pediatric Foot and Ankle Deformities and Malformations was written by the most renowned teacher in pediatric foot and ankle surgery, offering orthopedists, foot and ankle surgeons and podiatrists an invaluable and comprehensive guide to the assessment and treatment of children's feet. This text was designed to be practical, accessible, and immediately applicable-focusing on principles of treatment rather than reductive ""cookbook"" approaches that privilege piecemeal techniques over holist"

"Abstrak
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a fatal yet potentially preventable complication of surgery. Routine thromboprophylaxis is still unequivocal prescription is problematic due to perception of low VTE incidence among Asian population. This study aims to investigate the incidence of VTE and thromboprophylaxis prescription among patients undergoing major surgery in a Singapore hospital.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Data were obtained from medical record of 1,103 patients who had underwent major orthopaedic or abdominal surgery in 2011-2012 at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Singapore. Incidence of VTE events either in the same admission or re-admission in less than one month time were noted as study parameters.
Results: Incidence of VTE was 2.1% (95% CI: 1.67 - 2.53) of which 1.3% and 0.8% were DVT and PE cases respectively. Age, gender, history of VTE, ischemic heart disease, and mechanical prophylaxis were associated with VTE incidence based on bivariate analysis. The prescription of pharmacological thromboprophylaxis was associated with prior anticoagulant medication, type of surgery, and incidence of new bleeding.
Conclusion: Subsequent to major surgeries, VTE is as common in Asian patients as published data in other populations. Pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis should be considered as recommended in non-Asian guidelines.

According to Civil Aviation Safety Regulations CASR protocol 67 KP 303 in 2012, fit to fly recommendation after refractive phacoemulsification surgery performed on pilots with cataractswas given 2 months postoperatively. Nowadays with technological advances and technique modifications, the visual acuity stability postoperative can be more quickly achieved. This study aims to provide insight in terms to change the old policy of unfit period for pilots with cataracts performed phacoemulsification refractive surgery. It aims to reduce the loss of work so the aviators who visual acuity has been stable and already meet the criteria fit to fly can quickly return to serve. This study is a quantitative study with a retrospective cohort design. Data were taken from medical records, then we compared best corrected visual acuity BCVA in decimal preoperative, first day, and first, second, fourth and eighth week. Sampling was done by total sampling method, we got 16 medical records that match inclusion and exclusion criteria. All samples of male sex 100 aged 59 - 61 years. BCVA was found to differ significantly on the first postoperative day compared with preoperative p "

"Although there has been a slow but steady decrease in incidence, gastric cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Several aspects of the oncological and surgical management are still controversial and so gastric cancer represents a challenge for the surgeon. This book aims to delineate the state of the art in the surgical and oncological treatment of gastric cancer, describing the new TNM staging system, the extent of visceral resection and lymphadenectomy focusing on the different open and minimally invasive surgical techniques and discussing intraoperative chemohyperthermia and neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment. Operative endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasonography are also discussed, as these now have an important role in both diagnostic work-up and palliative care of gastric cancer patients. Only a multidisciplinary approach involving the surgeon, gastroenterologist, and oncologist can produce the comprehensive and integrated overview that today constitutes a winning strategy for the optimization of results.What we hope we have achieved is a flexible, up-to-date, exhaustive publication, rich in illustrations and consistent with evidence-based medicine."

"This manual of spine surgery has become necessary as a consequence of the rapid expansion of instrumented spine surgery using different minimally invasive and non-fusion techniques. To do justice to this development, the manual aims to present the different techniques to spinal surgeons (orthopaedic and neurosurgeons) in a clear and instructive way using detailed illustrations. The description of different open, less invasive or minimally invasive techniques will provide the spinal surgeon with useful guidelines for their use. The success of any spinal operation depends on good definition of the indications, consideration of the contraindications, technical and organisational factors, good operating technique and correct preoperative preparation and positioning of the patient. "Pendahuluan
Dari dua buah grup dibandingkan apakah terdapat hubungan yang signifikan dengan faktorfaktor predisposisi amputasi sebagai variabel independen.Secara analisis univariat didapatkan pada grup amputasi terdapat insidens yang lebih tinggi signifikan (p<0,05) pada faktor predisposisi sepsis, ketoasidosis, neuropati perifer dan iskemia diabetik. Didapatkan odds ratio 2,57 untuk sepsis (95% CI:1,44-4,60; P=0,001); 2,67 untuk ketoasidosis (95% CI:1,16-2,58;
P=0,018); 1,79 untuk iskemia diabetik (95% CI:0.970-3,37; P=0,041); dan 4,30 untuk neuropati perifer (95% CI:0.95-19,2; P=0,030).
Kesimpulan
Sepsis, ketoasidosis, neuropati perifer dan iskemia diabetik merupakan faktor-faktor predisposisi amputasi yang signifikan pada pasien-pasien kaki diabetik.

Introduction
Diabetic foot is the main cause of nontraumatic lower extremity amputation. Early recognition and management of predisposing factors for amputation may prevent amputations.
Method
We collected clinical and laboratory data, details of diabetes complications and history of comorbidities in 242 patients who were admitted for management of diabetic foot to determine the predisposing factors of amputation in these patients. We devided these patients into two groups, those whose treatment included amputation and those who were treated conservatively
and carried out a comparative analysis of the variables in the two groups.
Result
From the two groups we compared if there is significant relationship with the predisposing factors for amputation as independent variable. In univariat analysis we found higher incidence (p<0,05) of sepsis, ketoacidosis, peripheral neuropathy and diabetic ischemia on amputated group. Univariat adjusted odds ratios was 2,57 for sepsis (95% CI:1,44-4,60; P=0,001); 2,67 for
ketoacidosis (95% CI:1,16-2,58; P=0,018); 1,79 for diabetic ischemia (95% CI:0.970-3,37; P=0,041); and 4,30 for peripheral neuropathy (95% CI:0.95-19,2; P=0,030).
Conclusion
Sepsis, ketoacidosis, peripheral neuropathy and diabetic ischemia are significant predisposingfactors for amputation in patients hospitalized for diabetic foot lesions.
