"Malnutrition and its related symptoms are both frequent and deleterious effects of cancer treatment. Despite the importance of targeted nutritional interventions in ameliorating these effects, however, publications providing up-to-date information on novel nutritional approaches and strategies are lacking. This book is intended to fill the void by describing and evaluating in detail the nutritional strategies that may be employed to alleviate a wide variety of cancer treatment effects. The guidance provided will help to improve the survival and quality of life of cancer patients, and has the potential to dramatically affect how evidence-based clinical practice is established and improved over the coming decade. "This book is about Nutraceuticals in cancer therapy, specifically targeted and Adjuvant therapy. It shows several approaches for possibly reducing systemic toxicity. This book illustrates the role of several dietary agents, collectively called nutraceuticals or natural agents in the prevention and/or treatment of human malignancies known to be mediated through alterations in multiple molecular targets. This book contains sixteen chapters which begin with historical perspective on the value of natural agents in the prevention of human malignancies followed by a series of current topics on multiple nutraceuticals targeting multiple cancers. This collection would likely be useful for bringing newer generations with broader perspectives in launching cutting-edge innovative molecular research, which would certainly help in designing targeted clinical trials in order to realize the dream of customize strategies for the prevention and/or treatment of human malignancies without causing any systemic toxicity. Moreover, the knowledge gained would allow novel utilization of nutraceuticals as adjunct to both conventional chemotherapy and radiation therapy in order to improve the overall quality of life and survival of patients diagnosed with cancers."

Background: Adipose and umbilical cord tissue derived mesenchymal stem cells MSCs are the most common sources that are used in various cellular therapies. MSCs are known to communicate with cancer cells through their secretomes. The hypoxic microenvironment of cancer may cause different effects on this interaction. Effects of MSC secretomes against the aggressiveness of breast cancer stem cells BCSCs ALDH have not been widely investigated.
Aim: To analyze various markers of aggressiveness that are associated with growth and survival viability, proliferation, pluripotency OCT4 and SOX2, tumorigenic MFU, progressive aggressive TGF 1 and T R1, stemness and detoxification ALDH1A1 and ALDH1A3, as well as the invasive nature MMP2 of BCSCs ALDH post interaction with both normoxic and hypoxic MSC secretomes.
Methods: The in vitro experimental study using conditioned medium CM of MSCs produced in normoxic and hypoxic condition that were supplemented in medium of BCSCs ALDH with concentrations of 50 v v for 72 hours. Analysis of viability, proliferation, and q RT PCR of ALDH1A1, ALDH1A3, OCT4, SOX2, MMP2, TGF 1 and T R1 mRNA as well as MFU assay were performed to determine the effect of secretomes on the aggressiveness of BCSCs ALDH.
Results: Secretomes of UCSCs supported the aggressiveness by increasing invasive aggressive and detoxification markers, while secretomes of ASCs supported the aggressiveness by increased pluripotency, invasive and detoxification markers. Hypoxic preconditioning of MSC secretomes increased the potential for aggressiveness higher than normoxic secretomes. Differences in viability and proliferation regulation and the decrease in BCSCs tumorigenic post secretomes supplementation need to be interpreted carefully and further verification.
Conclusion: Supplementation of MSC secretomes increased the aggressive properties of BCSCs ALDH. The hypoxic secretomes tend to favor the aggressive nature of BCSCs ALDH compared to its counterpart. Differences in viability and proliferation regulation as well as the decrease in tumorigenic markers in BCSCs after MSC secretomes supplementation still need further research to analyze the molecular underlying basis.

The nutritional status of an individual shows how far the physiological needs have been fulfilled. The balance between the income nutrition and the outcome energy to achieve an optimum health is very important, including for a lactating woman. Factors contributing to the nutritional state of a lactating woman are the age, genetics, hormonal state, level of education, the mother’s income, the mother’s morbidity, the exclusive breastfeeding, and the intake of food. Changing those factors can lead the nutritional state of the lactating mother below the normal range. The design used was the cross-sectional study and had been done in 86 lactating mothers at North Jakarta in the year of 2009. This research uses the secondary data from the ”Quick Survey of Lactating Mother” rersearch at Jakarta in the year of 2005. For the nutritional state, all the respondents are divided into two groups acording to the body mass index, one is underweight group and the other is non-underweight group with the cut off point 18,49 kg/m2. We had been done the statistical test to assess the correlation of the age, level of education, the income, the morbidity, exclusive breastfeeding with the nutritional state of lactating mother. The result is, all the resopndents have a mean of BMI 22.86 ± 3,79 kg/m2, this includes the mothers within the overweight range 47,7%, the mothers within the underweight range 11,6%, and the mothers within the normoweight range 40,7%. With the Chi-Square test and the Fisher test, we did not find the significant relationship between those variables with the nutritional state of lactating mother (p<0,05). So we conclude that there is no significant relationship between the nutritional state of lactating mother with the age, level of education, the income, the morbidity, and the exclusive breastfeeding at North Jakarta in year 2009."
