"This volume wipes away a host of problems related to location discovery in wireless ad-hoc sensor networks. WASNs have recognized potential in many applications that are location-dependent, yet are heavily constrained by factors such as cost and energy consumption. Their “ad-hoc” nature, with direct rather than mediated connections between a network of wireless devices, adds another layer of difficulty. Basing this work entirely on data-driven, coordinated algorithms, the author’s aim is to present location discovery techniques that are highly accurate and which fit user criteria. The research deploys nonparametric statistical methods and relies on the concept of joint probability to construct error (including location error) models and environmental field models. It also addresses system issues such as the broadcast and scheduling of the beacon. Reporting an impressive accuracy gain of almost 17 percent, and organized in a clear, sequential manner, this book represents a stride forward in wireless localization."

"This book focuses on non-GNSS positioning systems and approaches. Although it addresses both theoretical and practical aspects, the primary focus is on engineering practice. This is achieved by providing in-depth studies on a number of major topics such as tracking system architecture, link budget, system design, implementation, testing, and performance evaluation. It studies four positioning application cases in detail: covert vehicle tracking, horse racing, rowing, and tracking for field sports.
Its comprehensive and systematic treatment of practical issues in wireless positioning makes the book particularly suitable for readers who are interested in learning about practical wireless positioning solutions. It will also benefit researchers, engineers and graduate students in fields such as positioning and navigation, geospatial engineering and telecommunications."

ABSTRACT
The ad hoc wireless networks are increasingly used by multimedia applications. These applications are characterized by the existence of constraints on quality of service (QoS) to respect. One solution to guarantee QoS is the bandwidth reservation. In this report, I present the performance evaluation of a MAC protocol for bandwidth reservation in ad hoc networks to support wireless traffic such as voice. The protocol is evaluated based on IEEE 802.11. I have made several simulations to evaluate the performance of MAC protocol considered."

In this study, the authors designed a smart street lighting system based on wireless communication using ZigBee 2.4 GHz which is equipped with sensors (light sensor, motion sensor, current and voltage sensor), time readers and the microcontroller so that the system is able to regulate its function automatically according to the time and environmental conditions. Smart street lights communication system using Ad-hoc network configuration to transmit the data information of each point of light to the server. Ad-hoc network configuration makes the system more flexible because each node can communicate with each other directly without having to go through an access point. In addition, this system also uses LED lights and apply on-grid technology that uses the energy of sunlight as its primary power source, so it is able to save on energy consumption.
From the test results can be seen that the system has been able to work in accordance with an algorithm that is designed (resources switching algorithms, work function of light and sensor algorithms and data communication algorithms). On data communications testing for transmitting data from router node to coordinator node, obtained data reception success rate of 82.085%. Then from the results of the calculation simulation of the efficiency of the system obtained the total power usage of smart street lights per year only amounted to 59.09 KWh / lamp. So the smart street lighting system is much more efficient in terms of energy consumption compared to other existing street lighting system.

"This textbook introduces Wireless Powered Communication Networks (WPCNs) as a promising paradigm to overcome the energy bottleneck suffered by traditional wireless communication networks, as well as emerging Internet-of-Things networks. It selectively spans a coherent spectrum of fundamental aspects in WPCNs, such as wireless energy transfer (WEH) techniques, radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting receiver model, simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), as well as the rate-energy tradeoff arising from the joint transmission of information and energy using the same waveform. It covers network models for WPCNs, including the baseline and dual-hop WPCN models and a variety of related extensions. This book further examines the key factors including throughput, fairness, and security that must be taken into account for impeccable operation of WPCNs. The new IoT applications are targeted as a key element in those factors. It will also include exercises and examples throughout the book, as well as their PLS solutions.
This is the first textbook examining the current research to provide a unified view of wireless power transfer (WPT) and information transmission in WPCNs from a physical layer security (PLS) perspective. Focused on designing efficient secure transmission schemes, analyzing energy evolvement process, and evaluating secrecy outage performance under different channel state information (CSI), the results presented in this book shed light on how to best balance security and throughput with prudent use of harvested energy in WCNs. It also provides an overview of the WPCNs by introducing the background of WPT, followed by a summary of the research conducted in the field. The authors describe the physical-layer security (PLS) problem in WPCNs, including the causes and the impacts of the problem on the performance of WPCNs. The authors extend the discussions by introducing the applications of WPCNs in the IoT.
From the Internet of Things (IoT) point of view, this textbook reviews the opportunities and challenges for the lately-emerged WPCN to seamlessly integrate into the IoT ecosystem. It specifically addresses the maximization problem of uplink and downlink sum-throughout in a dual-hop WPCN, while taking fairness among WPCN users as a constraint. The results provided in this book reveal valuable insights into improving the design and deployment of future WPCNs in the upcoming IoT environment.
This textbook targets advanced-level students studying wireless communications and research engineers working in this field. Industry engineers in mobile device and network development business with an interest in WPCNs and IoT, as well as their PLS solutions, will also find this book useful."
