"Molecular biology has in recent years provided major advances in our understanding of cyanobacterial ecology. Perhaps for more than any other group of organisms, it is possible to see how the ecology, physiology, biochemistry, ultrastructure and molecular biology interact. This all helps to deal with practical problems such as the control of nuisance blooms and the use of cyanobacterial inocula to manage semi-desert soils. Large-scale culture of several organisms, especially "Spirulina" (Arthrospira), for health food and specialist products is increasingly being expanded for a much wider range of uses. In view of their probable contribution to past oil deposits, much attention is currently focused on their potential as a source of biofuel."

"Sistem komunikusi nirkabel saat ini telah memasuki kepada era teknologi
generasi ketiga (3G). Guna memenuhi permintaan akan layanan yang berkualitas dan
akses data yang tinggi digunakan teknologi Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA)
sebagai salah satu teknologi 3G. WCDMA merupakan kanal CDMA
dengan kanal empat kali lebih lebar dari kanal yang digunakan pada sistem komunikasi
generasi kedua (2G).
Dalam meningkatkan unjuk kerja kanal downlink WCDMA, ada beberapa cara
yang dapat digunakan. Salah satunya adalah penggunaan diversitas antena pada base
station (BS) yang terbagi dua, yaitu loop terbuka dan loop tertutup. Space time transit
diversity (STTD) merupakan salah satu diversitas antena pada loop terbuka. STTD
merupakan diversitas yang berbasiskan Space Zime Block Coding (STBC). Penerapan
STTD dilakukan dengan menggunakan minimal dua antena pada BS, sedangkan pada MS minimal satu antena.
Dari hasil simulasi ditunjukkan bahwa dengan pemakaian STTD pada kanal downlink mode FDD WCDMA,
kapasitas bandwith sistem dapat ditingkatkan
terutama dalam penghantaran data. Perolehan gain yang didapat juga cukup signifikan
bila dibandingkan dengan WCDMA tanpa STTD meskipun delay yang diterapkan
bervariasi. Sedangkan dengan bertambahnya kecepatan yang digunakan oleh MS dan
atau dengan ditingkatkannya SNR maka perbedaan BER yang didapat juga semakin
besar. STTD akan sangat menguntungkan bila ditetapkan pada MS yang bergorak dengan
kecepatan yang semakin tinggi. Sebaliknya STTD kurang berpengaruh pada MS
yang bergerak dengan kecepatan tidak terlalu ringgi."

"As indicator for environmental disturbances, the understory is an important structural and functional component of forests ecosystems. Hence, this study was conducted to investigate the diversity and composition of understory plants in the lowland forests adjacent to the trekking paths along Semut Bay (dock entrance) to Segara Anakan Lagoon and some coastal areas in Sempu Island, and to detemine their association with the underlying environmental factors as disturbance indicators by the presence of understory invasive alien species (IAS). Sixty six plots of 2 x 2 m2 were established to analyze the understory vegetation, the site profiles and the environmental variables. A total of 135 understory plant species belonging to 108 genera and 60 families were recorded within the 66 plots of the study areas. Poaceae was the dominant family, followed by Compositae, Phyllanthaceae, Sterculiaceae, Rubiaceae, Putranjivaceae and Cyperaceae. The understory communities in the lowland forest adjacent to Semut Path were dominated by tree seedlings and had a relatively fewer composition of shrubs. Coastal areas, which have more open canopies, were dominated by grasses and shrubs. Some dominant native understory species include Ckistanthus ohlongifolius, Pterocymbium javanicum, lschaemum muticum, Guettarda spedosa, etc. Indicating disturbance, 12 understory IAS were found in the study areas. Four of these are among the world’s worst invaders (Chromolaena odorata, Imperata tylindrica, Lantana camara and Spathodea campanulata), and three are noxious weeds (Cyperus rotundus, Eleusine indica and Imperata cylindricd). The light intensity and air temperature were strongly positively associated with disturbed sites, while relative humidty, soil pH, and elevation were associated with less disturbed sites. These study results provide the scientific basis for management and recommendations on the current diversity status of the understory plant species at Sempu Island, hoping that these would justify further conservation of indigenous species and their protection from these disturbances."

"Kejadian luar biasa adalah suatu kejadian pada suatu daerah dan waktu tertentu dengan intensitas yang lebih tinggi dari daerah dan waktu lainnya. Metode space time scan statistic adalah suatu metode yang digunakan untuk mendeteksi kejadian luar biasa pada daerah dan waktu tertentu. Hasil pendeteksian kejadian luar biasa sangat berguna sebagai peringatan dini. Oleh karena itu, pendekatan yang paling sesuai adalah pendekatan prospective. Kejadian diasumsikan berdistribusi Poisson, dan rate dari kejadian luar biasa diasumsikan konstan (persistent). Pendeteksian kejadian luar biasa dilakukan dengan pembentukan scanning window. Untuk tiap scanning window yang terbentuk dihitung nilai rasio likelihood. Space time cluster (daerah dan waktu kejadian luar biasa) adalah scanning window dengan nilai rasio likelihood tertinggi yang signifikan secara statistik. Untuk mendapatkan p-value digunakan formula 1 p R S = + , dengan R adalah ranking statistic uji dari dataset sebenarnya, S adalah jumlah replika yang terbentuk dengan permutasi dari dataset sebenarnya sehingga metode space time scan statistic yang digunakan adalah space time permutation scan statistic. "
