"In recent months, the global ecnomic downturn has hit hard countries worldwide. The world is now experiencing what may be the first truly global financial mess. The financial meltdown that started in the Wall Street in the last quarter of 2008 has increasingly become a serious crisis that reaches deep not only into the globally integrated trading and financial systems, but also into the real economy, posing serious threats to the global monetery system. This article presents the phenomena of the global financial crisis worldwide and offers possible strategic approaches to local business community on how to address this crisis as an opportunity to reinforce research and development (R&D) to facilitate breakthrough of technological means, which eventually lead to innovation. Various journeys of discovery experienced by Finland and Hong Kong in recent years as role models that may inspire Indonesia in formulating integrated policies of business and research are also discussed. By learning lessons drawn from their past experiences, the Indonesian Government will be able to make positive changes in building up competencies of the nation; not only to inspire local business players on the importance of added value created by technological means, but also to sustain their global competitiveness through innovation, which can flourish only in an oppen and free environment."

This study attempts to understand the impact of institutional context and dynamic capabilities to the performance of Indonesia SMES International Business. Some scholars believed that internationalization could enhance Small Medium Enterprises (SME) competitiveness and survival prospects (Zhou and Wu 2014; Lee et al. 2012). Other scholars have identified three (3) key factors affecting internationalization of SMEs, which are (a) institutional context (Li, 2013), (b) the owner specific dynamic capabilities (Chittoor, et al., 2017), and (3) the organization dynamic capabilities (Mudalige et al, 2018). However, there are limited research that study the dynamic interaction between these three factors to SME internationalization performance, especially with the context of emerging economies like Indonesia. This study intended to fill the research gap by measuring the interaction of institutional context, owner specific dynamic capabilities, and organization dynamic capabilities to the export performance of Indonesian SMEs. Empirical results from 88 exporting small business in Indonesia showed that organization dynamic capabilities are significantly influenced by institutional context, mainly government regulations and cultural support. Meanwhile, owner specific dynamic capabilities are empirically proven not influenced by institutional context and needs to be mediated by organization dynamic capabilities to influence performance. Finally, the performance of the exporting SMEs is proven to be significantly influenced directly by institutional context and organization dynamic capabilities."

Indonesia is a maritime country with potential economic growth. Developing a maritime country is related to port infrastructure as the support for any port activities. Both passenger and cargo will use port as the gate to travel by sea. However, Indonesia has not yet maximized port area potential. Port has many specific infrastructures to support its activities, surrounded by entrepreneurial aspect such as commercial area and residential home. Demand for cargo shipping and passenger travelling are increasing every year, while the area of developing infrastructure area is not much available on Jakarta as the main city of Indonesia. Interconnection between all these factors need to be visualized as a tool of comprehension for stakeholders to make the better port improvement planning decision. PORTANOVA is using Serious Simulation Gaming method to represent real situation in PT Indonesia Kendaraan Terminal Tbk and convert it to a comprehensive game to help stakeholders review their plan effectivity based on available area and throughput generated from each activity. Player will simulate a role with specific responsibility and constraints. Historical demand and event are supplied to see if player has innovation towards developing infrastructures around port area. PORTANOVA resulted as a decision-making tool to implement better planning strategy for existing and new port development."

Smith, Robert P., 1940
"Today, Robert P. Smith is a legend in the world of finance. Part adventurer and part economic warrior, this Indiana Jones of the financial world was an advance man for the forces of globalization, having spent more than thirty years traveling through five continents, buying and selling high risk securities in the world's most downtrodden economies. So tenuous was his operation and so covert the transactions, that an overnight fluctuation in a country's currency rate could mean the difference between a spectacular profit or a devastating loss. Today, the trade in emerging market debt is worth more than five billion dollars a day, but it was virtually non-existent when Smith, a one-time collections lawyer, pioneered the business in the late 1970s. "Riches Among the Ruins" is the extraordinary story of Robert Smith's search to make money doing the riskiest kind of business. We are at his side as he travels through the treacherous and exhilarating world of the debt trader, dodging bullets and roadside bombs in post-Saddam Iraq, and risking his life on the chaotic streets of Nigeria. As he engages in a battle of wills with businessmen in Istanbul, and loses millions overnight in the ruins of the post-Soviet Russian economy, we experience all of the thrill and terror that accompanies making big money in emerging markets. At once adrenaline-fueled and utterly compelling, this is the gripping story of one man's quest for fortune where others fear to tread."

"As major developing countries have limited domestic saving to generate capital accumulation, capital inflow plays substantial role to provide external financing. Several landmark literatures provide an empirical evidence that capital inflow contributed to the acceleration of economic growth through technology transfer, enhanced innovation, and capital accumulation. This research examines the role of capital inflow for the case of Indonesia using saving-investment relationship with quarterly data from 2000 to 2018. This study is comprised of three parts to measure the pattern of capital inflow in overall period, pre-global financial crisis, and post-crisis. Building on previous literature, this study will contribute to fill the gaps in existing literatures by employing error correction model (ECM) based on saving-investment framework of Feldstein-Horioka. This study found that over the whole sample period and post-crisis, both domestic saving and national saving in short-run, established low significant coefficient which signify high capital mobility, while in the long-run, domestic investment and saving have one-to-one relationship, which does not necessarily imply low capital mobility. The result on the pre-crisis period suggested that domestic saving and domestic investment is not statistically correlated for both short-run and long-run as there is not enough evidence to reject null hypothesis. This study confirms the growth theory model that suggests saving will be equal to investment in the steady state condition and the imbalance of saving and investment will be only transitory. "
