"In this book, space systems are situated in the global processes of the 21st century?s information society and the role that space information systems could play in risk management is determined, methods of detecting and forecasting of both natural disasters and technogenic catastrophes and existing global and regional monitoring systems are described, and the IGMASS is introduced with its architecture and design concept and social and economic aspects and estimates of its creation, development, and utilization. Finally, results of the international symposium held in Limassol, Cyprus, in November 2009 in preparation of the IGMASS project?s submission to the United Nations are discussed"

Remote Monitoring Systems for Air Quality Stations. A remote monitoring system for air quality station has been design and developed. The system consist of three main units: stations, master, and server. Station collects and processes data from 7 sensors (temperature, humidity, and O2, Oj, NO, CO, and SO2 gas sensor), master system has a duty as data collector and station control and as air quality data bank is the server. Remote monitoring software was developed base on SDI-12 (A Serial-Digital Interface) standard for microprocessor-based sensor, The system has been tested and showed good results."

"In Indonesia, there is now no operational sea surface temperature (SST) monitoring for such activities as oceanography, climatology or fishery. Indeed until 1986, LAPAN required NOAA data without atmospheric correction. It is even worse that local hardware constraints prevent any operational monitoring with mainframe computers. By analysing NOAA data with microcomputers, the methodology presented in this paper intends to fill this gap. It was tested with the study of large scale SST features in Indonesia from 1981-1985. This study stresses the possibility of an operational SST Monitoring in Indonesia, allowing simple data manipulation with a type of hardwarw equipment maintained locally and easily."

"The natural disasters are the killer agents which can/can't be predicted even though we have modern technology. Every year, in one place or another, disasters striking which is devastating the area and surroundings, leading to ecological disruption besides huge loss of life and property. India is vulnerable to cyclones, landslides/avalanches, earthquakes, floods, droughts, forest fires, epidemics, etc. The 5700-km long coast of India, with its dense population is vulnerable to cyclones/low depressions, tsunamis, etc. The 2400-km long rugged Himalayan terrain is vulnerable to landslides, avalanches and earthquakes. India is not only vulnerable to natural disasters, it is also experiencing industrial accidents. The Bhopal Gas tragedy is one of the major man-made disasters in the world. The state of Andhra Pradesh has 970-km long coastline with two major rivers, etc. The conference is conducted in Visakhapatnam, is famous for industries and tourism. Recently, several industrial accidents took place, besides major natural disasters like Hud-Hud, etc. Disaster management shall be implemented from the grass root level in vulnerable areas to improve the capacity building, so as to minimize the losses. The capacity building coupled with technology results in reduction of loss of life and property. "

Abstract
This study focuses on disaster observations in Pariaman (West Sumatera) and Wasior (Papua) using remote sensing techniques (differential SAR interferometry). Differential interferometry (DInSAR) method was performed on two PALSAR data sets with different acquisition months, i.e. about a month after and before disaster, respectively. The center damage of Pariaman earthquake and Wasior flood can be determined by deriving Land Subsidence using DInSAR method."

"This edition provides practitioners and students with a comprehensive understanding of the disaster management profession by utilizing a global perspective and including different sources of risk and vulnerability, systems that exist to manage hazard risk and the many different stakeholders involved. It examines the impact of many recent large-scale and catastrophic disaster events on countries and communities, as well as their influence on disaster risk reduction efforts worldwide. It also expands coverage of small-island developing states (SIDS) and explores the achievements of the United Nations Hyogo Framework for Action (2005-2015) and the priorities for action in the Post-2015 Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction currently under development. It provides updated statistics on disaster frequency and impact and presents information on multilateral emergency management agreements as well as profiles of important NGOs and international organizations. --
