This dissertation is a series of studies conducted in the city of Parakan, one of the sub- district in Temanggung Regency, Central Java. The city of Parakan was chosen as a case study because since December 2015, the city has been designated as a Heritage City by the Indonesian Central Government based on Undang-Undang Republik Indonesia Nomor 11 Tahun 2010 about Cagar Budaya (Cultural Heritage) through Piagam Komitmen Penataan Pelestarian Kota Pusaka 2015 by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing/ Kementrian Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat Republik Indonesia. This dissertatiaon raised an issue that had an impact on the sustainability of Parakan as a Heritage City. The paradox of a heritage city is the subject of this dissertation, by colliding on two different conflicts of interest that occur due to lack of knowledge and a sense of belonging to something particularly related to historical attachment. Through the exploration of the history of the city of Parakan, it can be revealed that Parakan is an important city in Indonesia and deserves to be designated as a Heritage City. Different interests of several parties in Parakan, both those who support conservation activities and those whose refure to do conservation activities, make a very big dillemma particularly for local government and some community groups who feel the need for architectural conservation activities. This research has conducted a qualitative research method that used a descriptive narrative approach using oral tradition as one of the approaches in exploring the history and phenomena that exist in the city of Parakan through several descendants of important Parakan figures, KH Subuki. Quantitative data obtained through questionaires were also conducted to obtain sampling data regarding the level of historical attachment and level of knowledge of the local community in Parakan regarding historical city conservation activities.

Jakarta Philatelic Building was a class A cultural heritage building which formerly operated as the first Post Office in Indonesia that has been here for 275 years and counting since 1746. It’s a representation of PT Pos Indonesia's combat against colonizers and constant public service. In 2021, It was conserved into Pos Bloc, a public space for creative activities such as fashion, music and art. Hence, issues of authenticity have surfaced that enclose the lack of past nationalism narrative due to interventions that accommodate new functions. This research aims to identify conservation methods that have been applied to further find the effect of changes in authenticity aspects based on authenticity values of Pos Bloc’s conservation. Qualitative comparative research with Nara Grid method to study changes in aspects of authenticity such as (form & design, material, function, techniques, location and spirit) based on authenticity values (artistic, historical, social and scientific). Which will be combined into one Nara Grid tabulation to determine final synthesis of the influence and authenticity values of Pos Bloc. The research was supported by historical study, observations and interviews. The synthesis finds that Pos Bloc Conservation is a combination of methods of maintenance (preservation), restoration (restoration) and development (adaptation) that influence the values of authenticity. Artistic value represents the first BOW building that combines Art Deco & Industrial Architecture / Transportation. Historical value represents the first post office in Indonesia whose existence is celebrated annually as the Birthday of Pos Indonesia. Social value plays a role of creative economy generator and initiator in Pasar Baru after the 1997 reform era and Scientific value finds a role as a study of wide range construction of industrial architecture alteration to Indonesia's tropical climate."

"Inefficient energy use in buildings is both increasingly expensive and unsustainable. Indeed, the reduction of the energy consumption of existing buildings is as least as important as the design of new low-energy buildings. Controlling energy use is one thing, but it is important to assess or estimate it, and to understand the range of interventions for reducing its use and the methods for assessing the cost effectiveness of these measures. This comprehensive guide clearly and concisely covers the various issues from a theoretical standpoint and provides practical, worked examples where appropriate, along with examples of how the calculations are carried out. Topics covered include:where and how energy is used in buildings energy audits measuring and monitoring energy use techniques for reducing energy use in buildings legislative issues. It provides a template for instigating the energy management process within an organization, as well as guidance on management issues such as employee motivation, and gives practical details on how to carry it through. This book should appeal to building managers and facilities managers and also to students of energy management modules in FE and HE courses."

"window glass is an essential component of most buildings but the transparancy of much glaass means it often goes unnoticed. modern window glass is almost invisible but historic glass usually has a tint or colour and variation in surface texture and thickness, all of which distort a transmitted (and reflected) image. this distortion contributes to the overall aesthetic quality of a historic building. it is important that any architectural conservation decisions, such as the retention and/or replacement of window glass, proceed from a possition of knowledge. The most important aspect of extant glazing is wheather or not it is original. this paper explores the use of a chemical analysis technique to determine the age of historic glass. "

Indonesia is a tropical country, which means it tends to receive sunlight evenly and has relatively high temperatures. This can be leveraged as an advantage in the utilization of solar energy but also poses a disadvantage in terms of high indoor temperatures due to thermal energy. The heat from thermal energy causes thermal discomfort in buildings, necessitating cooling systems that can increase electricity consumption. Therefore, energy conservation systems are an appropriate solution to address this issue. This research utilizes a Closed loop pulsating heat pipe (CLPHP) system with a binary working fluid of DI Water-Methanol for energy conservation in buildings. The Closed loop pulsating heat pipe operates on the principle of heat exchange in three sections: the evaporator, the adiabatic section, and the condenser. The evaporator is expected to absorb heat and move the working fluid as a heat transfer medium through the adiabatic section to the condenser to release heat. This study aims to determine the performance of the CLPHP system with the binary working fluid DI Water-Methanol as a thermal reduction device and energy conservation for buildings, as well as the reutilization of heat released in the condenser section for water heating. This experiment employs variations including Mixing ratios of 10:1, 5:1, 1:1, 1:5, 1:10; inclination angles of 5°, 10° , 15°; and Heat Inputs of 25 W, 35 W, and 45 W. The test results show that working fluid with Mixing ratio of 1:5 with an inclination angle of 5° and a Heat Input of 45 W produces the most optimal results with thermal resistance value of 0.741 °C/W and a final temperature gain in the condenser tank of 34.89°C."

The Healthy Building concept is the next generation of Green Building, where the concept includes not only responsibility for environmental impacts, but also the health and performance of its occupants. However, this concept is still not widely applied, especially in Indonesia due to the perception that there is a greater increase in costs when compared to conventional buildings or Green Buildings. This study aims to improve the existing design in the form of a Green Building design to actualize the Healthy Building concept by considering the economic value of the building. Case studies, life-cycle-cost analysis and benefit-cost ratio analysis were carried out to achieve the research objectives. The results showed that the improvement of Green Building to Healthy Building can be done by improving the design of indoor air quality, air humidity and the application of integrated pest management. Healthy Building requires additional investment costs of 1.44% of Green Buildings and 9.02% of conventional buildings. However, it can provide a B/C ratio value of 4.29 from conventional buildings and 7.08 from Green Building."

Historic building has become one of the historical witnesses of a nation's life journey that is being neglected in not rarely times until it damaged finally and even being ruined when it is considered obsolete and 'old fashioned'.
This mini thesis discussed about the conservation of historic buildings in Indonesia especially those that inherited by the Tionghoa ethnic group. It aims to understand about the steps of conservation that is carried out to a historical building, notably to a building with its own architectural special characteristics.
The result shows that in a conservation process, all phases that comprise documentation, filing, planning, and execution cannot work separately, but overlapping happens during the process. Further studies to the history and similar building are also required in a conservation process.
