ABSTRACTAlthough since 1973 the status of homosexuality is no longer considered as insanity, the presence of homophobic society is still inevitable until now. This study, then, aims to see what was actually happening in queer worlds after gay rights movements. Applying Hall?s cultural identity and Butler?s performativity theories through the movie An Englishman in New York (2009), this paper shows that queer diaspora creates new identities for both the indigenous people and the immigrants. This piece also reveals that the reason why 1970s queers liked to show their gender identities with queer fashion was because of the pressure from homophobic society., Although since 1973 the status of homosexuality is no longer considered as insanity, the presence of homophobic society is still inevitable until now.
