"Kegiatan tektonik di Kota Semarang menyebabkan terbentuknya sesar. Identifikasi sesar dan struktur penyerta yang tepat akan memberikan pemahaman kinematika dan dinamika dari Zona Sesar Kaligarang. Zona Sesar Kaligarang sudah terbentuk sejak Tersier dengan orientasi sistem tegasan ?1 = 37°, N158°E, ?2 = ,45°, N12°E, ?3 = 30°, N244°E, yang mengindikasikan pergeseran mendatar mengiri. Setelah itu pada Plio-Plistosen mengalami reaktifasi dengan pergeseran mendatar menganan yang ditunjukkan oleh orientasi sistem tegasan ?1 = 51°, N185°E, ?2 = 30°, N205°E, ?3 = 8°, N275°E. Selain itu, kelurusan di sekitar Sesar Kaligarang mempunyai arah NEE-SWW sampai NWW-SEE. Struktur ini disebabkan oleh aktivitas Gunung Unggaran.
