"Comparing the economic development in China and India has been interesting. While one has experienced an impressive economic growth performance, the other seemed to take a slower path. One popular argument says that the answer lies on China's success on attracting foreign capital. This argument is supported by some stylized facts related to the explanation for a country's attractiveness for foreign capital.The main idea of this essay is that China's relative success over India is a result of its unique characteristics. The purpose of this essay is to deliver supporting arguments for such hypothesis by analyzing the stylized facts. The readers should note that the scope of this essay is the internal determinants of the relatively different speeds of reforms, rather than the policy analysis.The essay is presented in three parts. The first part reviews the identical conditions which both countries shared in the beginning. The second part shows the different success stories. The third part is the comparison of some unique conditions which influenced the different outcomes of development. "

"Regionalisme ekonomi dan globalisasi ekonomi merupakan dua konsep penting dalam Ilmu Hubungan Internasional. Perkembangan studi regionalisme seusai Perang Dingin menjadikan fokus globalisasi sebagai fenomena internasional yang terjadi di seluruh negara di dunia. Fenomena di tingkat global ini turut mempengaruhi agenda kerja sama negara-negara di tingkat regional. Literature review ini diawali dengan pemaparan mengenai perkembangan konsep regionalisme ekonomi dan globalisasi ekonomi sebagai landasan konseptual. Kemudian, keterkaitan antara regionalisme ekonomi dengan globalisasi ekonomi dapat diamati dari literatur yang memaparkan beragam peristiwa internasional. Literatur tersebut terbagi ke dalam lima kelompok. Kelompok literatur pertama membahas merebaknya open regionalism di tahun 1990-an sebagai regionalisme ekonomi yang berorientasi pada integrasi ekonomi dunia. Kelompok literatur kedua membahas hubungan antara globalisasi ekonomi dengan krisis keuangan Asia. Kelompok literatur selanjutnya membahas dinamika keterkaitan regionalisme ekonomi dengan globalisasi ekonomi di Amerika Latin pada abad ke-21. Kelompok literatur keempat membahas pengaruh globalisasi ekonomi dan krisis keuangan global 2008 terhadap krisis utang eurozone. Kelompok literatur terakhir menjelaskan keterkaitan antara kedua konsep yang dilihat dari sudut pandang Indonesia. Dengan kategorisasi demikian, literature review ini berupaya untuk menjabarkan keterkaitan antara regionalisme ekonomi dan globalisasi ekonomi berdasarkan realitas internasional.

Economic regionalism and economic globalization are two substantial concepts in International Relations. Regionalism study in post-Cold War era focuses on globalization as international phenomenon happening worldwide. This phenomenon affects regional cooperation agendas among countries. At the beginning, this literature review discusses the evolution of economic regionalism and economic globalization as conceptual base. Afterwards, the linkage between economic regionalism and economic globalization is observed and analyzed from literatures which explain a number of international occurrences and segmented into five categories. The first category tells about open regionalism in 1990s as economic regionalism towards economic globalization while the second category discusses the correlation between economic globalization and Asian financial crisis Meanwhile, the third category explains the dynamics of linkage between economic regionalism and economic globalization in Latin America in 21st century and the fourth category explores the impact of economic globalization and global financial crisis in 2008 to eurozone crisis. The last group of academic references discusses the linkage between economic regionalism and economic globalization based on Indonesian perspective. Following those categories of academic sources, this literature review tries to identify the linkages between those two concepts based on international realities and phenomenon."
