"Penelitian ini membahas tentang bagaimana pola pencarian informasi yang dilakukan oleh pegawai asuransi dengan menggunakan internet di PT. Asuransi Kredit Indonesia, hambatan yang diterima ketika melakukan pencarian informasi di internet dan alasan melakukan pencarian informasi di internet. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data yaitu dengan melakukan observasi dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa informasi yang dibutuhkan informan terkait profesinya dan pendukung pekerjaannya, seperti jaringan orang-orang di sekitarnya. Untuk kegiatan pola pencarian informasi, terdapat pola mirip yang dilakukan narasumber dalam melakukan pencarian informasi di internet dengan tahapan yang dicetuskan oleh Kuhlthau dimulai dengan inisiasi, seleksi, eksplorasi, formulasi, pengumpulan informasi, dan diakhiri dengan presentasi. Hambatan yang dirasakan ketika melakukan pencarian informasi di internet oleh para pegawai asuransi adalah kurang cepatnya akses internet di kantor. Alasan utama yang membuat pegawai asuransi melakukan pencarian informasi di internet adalah hasil pencariannya cepat.

Research discusses the information searching behaviour by employees working at insurance industry using internet at PT. Asuransi Kredit Indonesia. This paper addresses the problems of barriers of information searching activities and the reasons why they prefer using internet to search their information needs to other methods. This research uses qualitative approach through observation and interviews.

The results show that the information needs by the employees are often related to their professions, such as the information needs related to the networks and links of employees and clients. In overaal of the process of information searching behaviour, it is closely related to Kuhlthau rsquo s process, started by initiation, selection, exploration, formulation, acquisition, and finished by presentation. The main barriers oeccured is related to the problem of the internet speed, which is slow. The main reason why they prefer using internet as the medium of information searching is that it is considered the fastest method to search information."

"Tesis ini membahas kemampuan mahasiswa Jurusan Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi (JIP) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Jakarta angkatan 2007 dalam menelusuri dan mengevaluasi informasi berbasis internet. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan menggunakan kuesioner sebagai instrument penelitian. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menelusuri dan mengevaluasi informasi berbasis internet cukup rendah yang berarti kemampuan literasi informasi mereka juga cukup rendah. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini penulis menyarankan bahwa Jurusan Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi bekerja sama dengan perpustakaan utama UIN Syarif Hidayatullah perlu lebih meningkatkan program literasi informasi dengan mengadakan seminar dan pelatihan; perlunya memasukkan pendidikan literasi informasi ke dalam kurikulum baik di dalam Jurusan Ilmu Perpustakaan maupun di jurusan lainnya; dan perlunya tambahan SDM yang berkualitas yang siap mengajarkan dan mensosialisasikan program literasi informasi.

This thesis discusses the ability of students of library and information science (LIS) department, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN), Jakarta who were enrolled in 2007, in searching and evaluating internet-based information. This research uses a quantitative approach with a questionnaire as the research instrument.

The result shows that the students ability in searching and evaluating internet-based information is low which means that their information literacy is also low. Based on this research's result the writer suggests that LIS department of UIN should collaborate with UIN's central library to increase the frequency of information literacy programs, by holding more seminars and workshops; the writer also suggests the need to include information literacy education in the curriculum of LIS department, and in other departments too. Both LIS department and UIN central library need to have additional qualified human resources who are ready to teach and to socialize information literacy programs."
