"Subjek merupakan salah satu objek kajian yang memiliki andil besar dalam pergerakan pemikiran filsafat. Diskursus mengenai subjek hadir dalam setiap periodisasi filsafat, sejak jaman Yunani Kuno hingga filsafat Kontemporer. Pemetaan tentang subjek ini salah satunya diungkapkan oleh seorang pemikir psikoanalisa, yaitu Jean Jacques Lacan, melalui pembacaannya atas subjek Cartesian dan subjek Freudian yang dipadukan dengan gagasan dialektika Hegel, serta strukuralisme dari Saussure. Subjek Lacanian mengemban tiga wilayah utama, yaitu The Imaginary, The Symbolic, dan The Real, dimana ketiga wilayah tersebut saling berintegrasi membentuk kerangka subjek, serta digerakan oleh hasrat dan kekurangan yang menjadi poros dalam roda triadik tersebut. Komplemen lain yang turut membentuk kerangka subjek ialah kehadiran Phallus, Maternal Phallus, the other, the Other, rangkaian penanda hingga Jouissance sebagai jawaban atas konflik yang senantiasa diemban oleh subjek dalam usahanya untuk mencapai keutuhan diri. Subjek Lacanian dijelaskan sejak masa kelahiran hingga mencapai puncak konflik di wilayah Simbolik. Selaras dengan hal tersebut, sinopsis yang disajikan dalam teks album The Wall melalui narasi lirik lagu sejak lagu pertama hingga terakhir, menyajikan cerita mengenai perjalanan pencarian jati diri subjek sejak kelahiran hingga puncak konflik hidup yang dialaminya. Jalan cerita yang disajikan dalam teks album The Wall relevan dengan alur pemetaan subjek Lacanian. Analisis atas teks The Wall merupakan sebuah usaha menemukan kebaruan yang tersembunyi dibaliknya.

Subject is an object of study that have a significan impact in philosophical discourse. This discourse about subject present in every periodization of philosophy, from the Ancient Greek to the Contemporary philosophy. One of the Psychoanalitic thinker that revealed about this mapping of subject is Jean Jacques Lacan, through his reading of Cartesian subject and Freudian subject combined with the concept of Hegelian dialectic, and also structuralism from Saussure. Lacanian subject contains three main areas, there are The Imaginary, The Symbolic, and The Real, where this three regions are integrated to form the structure of subject, and its also powered by desire and lack. Another complements that form the subject are the presents of Phallus, Maternal Phallus, the other, the Other, chain of signifiers, and Jouissance as the solution of subject’s conflict in order to attain the self completeness. Lacanian subject is explained since the birth of subject until the climax of conflicts in Symbolic area. In tune with this mapping of subject, The Wall present a narration in its text, about the journey of a subject, since the birth until the climax conflicts of life. The narration is formed by every lyrics of the song, from first to last in the album. The storyline of The Wall’s text is relevant with the mapping line of Lacanian subject. Analysis of The Wall is an effort to find novelty beyond its text."
