"[ABSTRAKTesis ini menyuguhkan terjemahan beranotasi novel The Kaisho. Anotasi dilakukan untuk menjelaskan masalah penerjemahan istilah budaya dan penyelesaiannya. Keunikan novel dari segi budaya dan keinginan untuk memperkenalkan budaya latar TSu menjadi dasar penerjemahan yang menganut ideologi pengasingan, tanpa mengabaikan ideologi pelokalan. Ideologi pelokalan hanya digunakan pada bagian-bagian tertentu untuk mencapai pemahaman pembaca TSa. Metode penerjemahan yang digunakan adalah metode semantis-komunikatif dengan penggunaan berbagai teknik yang mendukung kesepadanan makna dan kewajaran bentuk. Penerjemahan yang melibatkan teks sumber (TSu) yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat memerlukan upaya dari penerjemah agar tidak terjadi ?penjajahan budaya?. Keterlibatan teks sumber yang menghadirkan sejumlah budaya kuat di dalam penerjemahan ini memerlukan upaya penerjemah untuk menghindari ?penjajahan budaya?. Dalam situasi ini, penerjemah perlu mencondongkan pada lima aspek, (1) pemahaman karakteristik TSu; (2) pemahaman tentang calon pembaca TSa; (3) pemahaman budaya-budaya di dalam TSu dan budaya sasaran; (4) pemahaman makna dalam penyampaian pesan; dan (5) pemahaman bahwa ada perbedaan cara pengungkapan suatu ide pada dua budaya yang berlainan.

ABSTRACTThis thesis presents an annotated translation of the novel The Kaisho. Annotation is performed to explain the problem and its solution translation of the cultural terms. The uniqueness of the novel in terms of culture and the desire to introduce the cultural background of the source text become a basic of translation that adheres to the ideology of foreignization, without ignoring the localization of ideology. The localization only used on certain parts to achieve the target text reader comprehension. Translation method used is semantic-communicative methods with the use of various techniques that support the equivalence of meaning and reasonableness shape. The involvement of the source text that presents a strong culture in this translation requires some effort of the translator to avoid the ?culturally imperialistic?.In this situstion, translator needs to be leaned on five aspects of understanding, (1) understanding of the characteristics of source text; (2) understanding of the potential reader of the target text; (3) understanding of the cultures in the source text and the target text; (4) understanding of the meaning in the delivery of the message; and (5) an understanding that there are different ways of expressing an idea in two different cultures.;This thesis presents an annotated translation of the novel The Kaisho. "Dalan skripsi ini, penulis menganalisis salah satu dari karya-karya sastra Rusia terjemahan, dengan menitikberatkan aspek linguistiknya. Penulis menyadari bahwa masalah yang timbul demikian luas, sehingga pembahasannya akan dibatasi pada beberapa masalah pokok, yaitu mengenai masalah transliterasi, penafsiran makna kata, dan masalah-masalah yang menyangkut kaidah gramatika. Gagasan pemilihan judul, menurut pengamatan penulis banyaknya karya sastra Rusia yang diterjemahkan ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia menunjukkan adanya perhatian yang besar dari masyarakat."

"Penerjemahan teks dari buku Occupational Safety and Health for Technologists, Engineers, and Managers ini bertujuan untuk mencari padanan istilah bidang Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja. Anotasi yang menyertai terjemahan bertujuan untuk membahas masalah penerjemahan dan mempertanggungjawabkan padanan yang dipilih sebagai jalan keluar. Dalam hal ini, kegiatan didasarkan pada pengertian bahwa penerjemahan adalah upaya untuk mengungkapkan kembali pesan yang terkandungi dalam teks sumber ke dalam teks sasaran sedemikian rupa sehingga hasilnya wajar dan berterima. Teks sumber banyak mengandungi istilah. Penerjemahan teks jenis ini termasuk penerjemahan teknis. Teks diterjemahkan dengan menggunakan metode semantis-komunikatif. Penggunaan metode itu didukung oleh penerapan berbagai prosedur. Prosedur itu tidak hanya bermanfaat untuk memecahkan masalah penerjemahan istilah, tetapi juga membantu mendapatkan terjemahan yang wajar. Penerjemahan istilah mengikuti ketentuan pemadanan istilah asing ke bahasa Indonesia yang berlaku. Jika ditemukan padanan BSa yang lazim, istilah BSu diterjemahkan dengan padanan itu. Istilah yang belum ada padanannya dalam BSa diterjemahkan semaksimal mungkin dengan memanfaatkan berbagai prosedur dan memperhatikan konteks. Dari penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa mengikuti langkah penerjemahan yang benar, memilih metode yang tepat, menerapkan prosedur, dan memanfaatkan ketentuan yang berlaku dapat memecahkan masalah penerjemahan, termasuk penerjemahan teknis.

The translation of Occupational Safety and Health for Technologists, Engineers, and Managers is aimed at finding out equivalent for Occupational Safety and Health terminology. The annotation accompanying the translation is made to elaborate on translation problems and account for the equivalent chosen as solution. The activity is done by considering that translation is an effort to reproduce source text?s message in natural and acceptable target text. It is technical translation for the source text contains many terms. The text is translated by using semantic-communicative method. The use of the method is supported by applying procedures. The procedures are not only useful to solve problems in translating terms but also helpful to result in proper translation. The translation of terms follows the applicable rules of translating foreign terms into Indonesian. If equivalent is available in target language, source language terms are translated by the equivalent. If there is no equivalent available, the terms are translated as maximum as possible by applying procedures and considering context. It is concluded that following proper steps, choosing appropriate method, applying procedures, and using applicable rules can solve problems related to translation, including technical translation."

"Penelitian ini membahas penerjemahan preposisi pemarkah lokatif dan adverbia lokatif bahasa Prancis ke dalam bahasa Indonesia dengan menganalisis padanannya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa preposisi pemarkah lokatif bahasa Prancis dapat diberi padanan berupa preposisi pula dalam bahasa Indonesia, sedangkan adverbia lokatif bahasa Prancis tidak pernah berpadanan adverbia lokatif bahasa Indonesia, sebab bahasa Indonesia tidak mengenal adverbia lokatif. Oleh karena itu, kesejajaran bentuk dapat diterapkan dalam penerjemahan preposisi pemarkah lokatif, sebaliknya penerjemahan adverbia lokatif tidak terikat pada kesejajaran bentuk dan lebih mementingkan kesepadanan tekstual. Hasil analisis juga menunjukkan pergeseran dalam penerjemahan, baik pergeseran tataran maupun pergeseran kategori. Meskipun demikian, amanat yang terdapat dalam bahasa sumber tetap dapat tersampaikan dalam bahasa sasaran.

This research explains the translation of locative prepositions and locative adverbs in French language to Indonesian language by analyzing their Indonesian equivalents. It shows that there are Indonesian equivalents for French locative prepositions that work as prepositions as well, whereas Indonesian equivalents for French locative adverbs can never be determined as adverbs because there is no locative adverb in Indonesian language. Therefore, formal correspondence can be applied in the translation of locative prepositions. On the other hand, the translation of locative adverbs ignores formal correspondence but emphasizes textual equivalence. The result of the analysis shows translation shifts, both level shifts and category shifts. Nevertheless, the message in the source language still can be transferred in the target language."

"ABSTRAKDisertasi ini menyingkap strategi, ideologi, metode, dan teknik penerjemahan ungkapan sapaan bahasa Inggris-Amerika dan ungkapan sapaan bahasa Indonesia serta budaya kebahasaan yang terlibat di dalam penerjemahan. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan tiga novel Amerika beserta terjemahan bahasa Indonesianya dan wawancara dengan penerjemah serta narasumber lain. Didukung oleh teori penerjemahan, ungkapan sapaan, dan budaya kebahasaan, penelitian ini menemukan dua ideologi penerjemahan yang berhulu pada strategi penerjemahan pemancaan (foreignization) dan pelokalan (domestication). Di samping itu, juga ditemukan tujuh metode penerjemahan dan dua puluh empat teknik penerjemahan serta budaya kebahasaan yang menyangkut kuasa (power) dan solidaritas (solidarity).

ABSTRACTThis dissertation reveals the translation strategies, ideologies of translation, translation methods, and translation techniques of American-English forms of address into their Indonesian translations within linguistic culture involved in the translation. This qualitative research employs three American novels with their translation versions and interviews with their translators and other resource persons. Through the theories of translation, forms of address theories, and linguistic culture, the research findings indicate that two ideologies of translation: foreignization and domestication. Besides, it is also found that there are seven methods of translation with twenty four techniques of translation and linguistic culture relating to power and solidarity."

The articles published in Reader rsquo s Digest USA edition have been translated into its Indonesian edition in Bahasa Indonesia with different types of readers cultures and understandings This translation process of Reader rsquo s Digest articles has many issues regarding the translation methods used in order to fulfil the necessity of transferring the whole thought and message of the text Only a few researches that address the use of particular methods of translation as well as the shifts of meanings that result from those methods chosen have been done To solve the problem this paper aims to analyze the methods that are used by the translator of the Reader rsquo s Digest article to tackle any translation problems and to discover the shifts of meanings that occur in the articles caused and minimized by the chosen translation methods The research is done by comparing the Reader rsquo s Digest USA version and the Indonesian version to decide on the most possible translation methods chosen by the translator and to find any shift of meaning The result of the research shows several shifts of meanings that could be solved by using appropriate translation methods or other possible translation strategies"
